Thank you Bernard for letting us stay in your beautiful house. It was a very relaxing holiday in the sun, surrounded by nature. Just what the family needed to unwind and relax.
We loved everything about this beautiful house and location.
We were looking for something quiet and peaceful, near some beautiful small villages and that would also enable a trip to a larger town/city if needed. But really wanted it to be all about the house, grounds and immediate vicinity. And we couldnt have hoped for more.
The house itself is so tastefully done. It feels old but is well appointed. The open barn is a delighful feature and we spent most time out here. The pool is perfect. One thing not reall mentioned is that the river Lot is a quick 10 min walk away, and you can swim there off a small 'beach' in the shadow of a chateau built into the cliff. Kids loved this.
House is amazingly well appointed and Bernard and his wife were so friendly walking us through at checkin. They were always available for contact, but never too much. They have a cousin that lives very close, should immediate assistance be needed.
Villages nearby were lovely, good boulangeries, good wine shop :)
Don't miss Peche Merle, if you can bring yourself to leave the house...
We knew nothing about the Lot River Valley eight months ago, until a local auction item in St. Cirq Lapopie absolutely intrigued me. We’ve been to many different parts of France but never to this beautiful area. We began planning a family vacation for eight: grandparents, parents, and 4 young adults. Luckily my search on VRBO led to the most perfect place to stay we could every wish for. The beautifully restored farm house, with amazing outdoor family space and peaceful views, gave us a wonderful base for exploring the prehistoric caves, the pilgrimage churches, and the fascinating villages of the Causses du Quercy. The house is just at the edge of tiny LaToulzanie, on a road that winds cliffside, following the river, between Cahors and Cajarc, with tiny villages carved into the limestone cliffs in between. Our family messaging group was named the LaToulzaniacs, because every one of us, young to old, fell in love with this magical place. You can’t help but be entranced by the views, the peacefulness, and the welcoming spaces to share special family time, away from everyday distractions. We had the best meals which we made in the kitchen with the fresh and delicious food we got at the local grocery. There were restaurants in an easy driving distance that we loved, as well. We are all planning trips to go back. Bernard, and his cousins were the most attentive and delightful hosts! Bernard was also so helpful in planning an itinerary for our adventures. Mille mercis!
We stayed 12 days in Saint-Martin-Labouval which was a wonderful and relaxing escape.
Set around a generous sized terrain, Bernard’s house is packed with Quercy character and has space for groups, small and large. Our family ranged in age from 2 to their 70s and everyone was comfortable and could escape to their own space. There are 5 bedrooms spread across an L-shape, so two groups can have their own privacy.
The swimming pool is private and refreshing in the summer heat. It is the converted barn that was the highlight of the house for us and the centrepiece of where we spent most time together as a family. It has its own kitchenette and bar.
The house is equipped with all necessary conveniences. Just take care on the two staircases in the house with smaller children and older adults as they can be tricky.
You are minutes from the Lot river in a tranquil, natural area, close to the medieval villages of St Circ Lapopie and Calvignac. Pretty Cajarc is 15 minutes away for everything you need and eating options, and it’s 45 min to Cahors for more life and the market. Figeac and Rocamadour are also easily accessible.
The Lot Valley and the Quercy Forest region are pretty and scenic but off the more beaten path of tourism. If you are looking for tranquility, nature, authenticity and excursions, with a generous space to spend family time, Bernard will take care of you. Communications with him were easy with fast responses. We have lovely memories of our time.
