About Monica Moody

While visiting family in the Breckenridge, CO area for summer and winter vacations, we fell in love with the area and decided it would be a wonderful place to own a second home. When we found this cabin, we knew it was meant to be. We were so mesmerized by the property and cabin, that we lost track of time and missed our plane home. We love how you feel when you're at the cabin. You're away from all the stresses of daily life without being isolated. The surrounding mountains and creeks and pond make it special. It's a place for us to reconnect with family and nature. And it doesn't hurt that there are so many fun things to do nearby!

What makes this cabin unique

Some of our favorite activities include packing a lunch and hiking right out the door and up Mt. Sherman. It is known as one of the easiest fourteeners and the views are amazing. There is a fire pit for roasting marshmallows by the pond and on a clear night, you can see the Milkyway. Horseback riding, ATV rentals, and white water rafting are all close by. Fishing and gold paning in the creeks and pond are a favorite with the men and kids. And there's a grocery store 10 minutes away with everything you'll need for the pantry and cooking on the grill. Our favorite places to eat in Fairplay are the Brown Burro Cafe (Delicious Mexican), cheese steaks at the Dinky Dairy and everything at Millonzi's. And let us not forget Breckenridge - 23 miles from the cabin door - has everything a resort town can offer. Skiing, golfing, biking, ice skating, shopping, restaurants, tours and events.... We love it all and think you will too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to let you know that the stay at the cabin was unbeliveable. We were so amazed at the scenary and location of the cabin. We saw all types of wildlife while staying such as moose, mountain Lion, beavers and elk, what an adventure. The kids were thrilled by the fish in the pond and were overjoyed by the snow that came down while we were their. The location was close enough to larger communities but yet far enough away. I use to work for Texas Parks & Wildlife and visited many Parks and have seen very nice areas along with nice cabins, this compared to yours were no match. Your location was nicer than any location I have ever visited, and I have been to many locations.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

The beautiful cabin was very private, and looks like the pictures

Representing it. It was very well stocked with everything you would need.

We enjoyed some beautiful foliage and wildlife. We did see some moose

And deer. Be prepared for high altitude. It was really a lovely place to stay and we all enjoyed it.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This is a well-appointed home in a truly spectacular setting. We enjoyed sitting on the decks and experiencing the cool air and beautiful scenery. A female moose made her appearance every day in a clearing outside the kitchen window. We hiked the trails along the creek and caught fish in the pond. I would definitely return for another visit, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place with plenty of privacy and stunning surroundings.

Peaceful Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Dear Monica,

Thank you for sharing your mountain cabin with us. It is truly a beautiful property! It was the perfect place for our family to get away! The cabin was comfortable and provided everything we needed. The road to your cabin was quite rough but easily passable by car. It was worth all the bumps when we got to the property though! It did take us a couple of days to get acclimated to the high elevation. Just a tip for future renters, use the humidifiers that are supplied in the bedrooms, helps alot. We really enjoyed the wood stove and had a fire in it every afternoon/evening. Read the guest book when we first arrived and learned the best place to look for moose Sure enough, after a couple of days we were lucky enough to have a group of 5 moose hang around the cabin for a couple of days. 2 big bulls, one young bull and 2 cows. My niece and son had fun fishing in the pond. The Wi-Fi and satellite tv worked great and we had fun playing the old school Nintendo! Overall a great vacation rental!!

Great retreat in CO!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this cabin. The views are spectacular in every direction and it's truly a retreat destination. We had 4 adults and 4 children and spent our time on the property fishing and exploring. Some of our crew also went white water rafting in Buena Vista (we recommend American Adventure Expeditions) and climbed Mt. Sherman via the Fourmile Creek trailhead. We also all enjoyed an afternoon at the Mt. Princeton Resort. In the evenings we enjoyed family meals together, played games, and enjoyed the classic movies and music via cassette tapes. Definitely a place to remember!

We all made a lot of extra effort to arrive very hydrated knowing this is a high altitude location, a few of us still managed to experience some altitude sickness the first day. Just keep hydrating...and don't forget the electrolytes!

That cabin is beautiful and homey. We saw a moose from our cabin porch! We took a few hikes around the property. Lovely wildflowers. Enjoyed coffee on the porch. Our kids fav was the creek! Very private setting. Fully stocked kitchen.

Fabulous Time!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fabulous 7 days at the cabin. The cabin was perfect for us as was the property. Plenty of room to hike, lots of wildlife to enjoy (3 moose came to visit along with a red fox, deer and beaver), and the weather was picture perfect. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. It was hard to pack up Monday morning, knowing we were returning to 100 degree heat. Hopefully, we will get to return soon. It was magical!
