This was, without a doubt, the worst rental experience I’ve ever had.We arrived early, having paid an additional fee for early check-in, only to find that the cleaning crew was just getting started — we sat around for two full hours before we could even unpack. That alone was frustrating, but it turned out to be the least of our problems.Within a day or two, we started seeing roaches. Then more — dozens of them — in the kitchen, bathroom, garage, you name it. I reported this immediately, and the response from the host was that it’s “a seasonal issue” and they’d have the house sprayed after we left. After continued complaints, they said they’d send someone and assured us that the bugs would be handled and the dead ones cleaned up.What actually happened? A maintenance guy showed up with a bottle of bug spray from Walmart, sprayed a few areas, and left. No cleanup. No follow-through. We were left to clean up dead bugs ourselves — and keep in mind, my child has asthma, which makes exposure to roaches an actual health hazard, not just a cleanliness issue.The property manager never took responsibility, never admitted any fault, and flat-out refused to offer a refund. We ended up leaving the property early, completely disgusted and disappointed. Thankfully, VRBO stepped in and issued the refund directly, acknowledging the situation as a health and safety violation — which it absolutely was.
