About this property
Modern holiday home. 1 minute walk to tropical beach, cafe and turtle swim.
Manatu is a modern, three-bedroom holiday home nestled in the Titikaveka district on the island of Rarotonga. Surrounded by lush tropical gardens and just a one-minute stroll to a sun-drenched beach, a charming café, and guided turtle swimming experiences, this retreat offers the perfect balance of privacy, relaxation, and authentic Polynesian style. Designed to accommodate both adults and families with teenagers, Manatu offers flexible bedroom configurations to suit your needs. Manatu draws inspiration from traditional Polynesian architecture to create a naturally comfortable and sustainable indoor environment. High ceilings, concrete construction, gable vents, and insect-proof louvred windows work together to moderate the temperature and bring the outside in. At the same time, modern conveniences are at your fingertips. Enjoy unlimited Starlink Wi-Fi, a Netflix-enabled smart TV, and an Alexa speaker system for music and information in the main room — all the comforts of home, right here in paradise. A spacious deck and undercover dining area provide effortless indoor-outdoor flow, making mealtimes and entertaining a breeze.
Manatu Holiday Home sits on Rarotonga’s tranquil south-coast, considered the countryside by the locals, away from the hustle and bustle of Muri Beach and Avarua. Muri is only a 10 minute drive away. Just a two-minute stroll (about 100 m) lands you on the tropical beach and lagoon, where the friendly crew from Go Local Turtle Tours will whisk you off for snorkelling adventures among the turtles, eagle rays and schools of tropical fish in the crystal-clear waters. Pop into Au Tree Café across the road for a wholesome breakfast, fresh lunches and a selection of hot and cold drinks. Best of all the view across the lagoon is amazing. Stock up on groceries, local produce or late-night treats at Wigmore’s Super Store, a 24/7 one-stop shop just a five-minute drive from your door.

About the host
Hosted by Shaun Heath

Shaun and Lorna began their Rarotonga dream in 2005, building a small cottage that became the base for family holidays and island adventures. Two decades later, in 2025, we replaced that much-loved cottage with Manatu, our brand-new holiday home. We’re based in Nelson, New Zealand, and we hope you enjoy your stay in our little slice of paradise.
Why they chose this property
Manatu is situated on a larger land section known as Totokoitu, a unique area that stretches from the sea all the way to the mountainous interior of Rarotonga. Historically, this fertile land was used to cultivate traditional crops such as taro, coconut, and maniota, with some of the original coconut trees still standing proudly today.
For 60 years, the land was leased to the government and transformed into an agricultural research plantation, where exotic varieties of fruits and vegetables were grown and studied. In more recent times, Totokoitu has been returned to shared family stewardship and is now used for a mix of residential and small-scale commercial purposes.
