The cabin looked wonderful, furniture in great condition, electricity, and heat sources were checked- there was a storm coming in that night. The thing that changed my experience was having black house flies and lady bugs flying throughout the house, half dead on the floor, or dead bugs on the floor. We swept up piles of these bugs, and then they were constant through out our stay. They were in our food and drinks, and my young daughter was scared they were going to fly on her while she slept, and was scared to go into rooms because she did not want to step on them, or have them fly into her- which made staying in the cabin tough. The owner said these bugs are sometimes common and that she will look into it more. We were constantly having to watch out for the bugs around us the entire time we were at the house- which did not make for a pleasant time, or worth the money invested.

From the Owner:"Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for your kind comments about the cabin. I’m truly sorry that the presence of cluster flies and ladybugs affected your stay, especially for your daughter. While these insects can occasionally appear during colder Maine weather, I understand how disruptive this was. My house watch did offer assistance during your visit, and my team is actively sealing potential entry points and taking preventative steps to ensure a more comfortable experience for future guests. I appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to address this moving forward."

Our stay was unfortunately impacted by a significant ladybug/house fly presence throughout the property. Two days prior to check-in, we received a general notice mentioning possible ladybugs. However, the notice did not reflect the scale of the issue we ultimately encountered. Upon arrival, insects were present not only in the primary bedroom (which was the most affected), but also in other sleeping areas and in the living room, including inside the sofa bed. This was not a minor or isolated issue, and it materially affected the overall comfort and usability of the home during our stay. After receiving the pre-arrival notice, I immediately contacted the management team to ask whether cancellation would be possible. A response was not received until the following day, at which point securing a reasonable alternative accommodation was no longer feasible.I do want to note that Steve, the on-site caretaker, was very kind and responsive during our stay. He did his best to assist promptly when contacted, and we truly appreciated his efforts. While we understand that properties in natural environments may occasionally experience seasonal issues, clearer disclosure of severity and more timely communication from the management team would have allowed us to make a more informed decision prior to arrival.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry the insect activity impacted your stay. Being in a wooded Maine setting, seasonal pests can occur, but we understand this felt more significant than expected. We’ve since completed additional treatments and added preventative measures.
We make every effort to be available, reaching out to our guests prior to arrival and providing clear contact information, and we’re always happy to help when concerns are shared during a stay. While we were able to assist with the items reported, we would have welcomed the opportunity to address the insect concern during your stay as well. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to provide a positive experience for future guests.
