Utila's The Gardens ~ Top Floor Upscale Apartments

The Gardens is now offering 2 spacious one bedroom, fully furnished, upscale apartments for those wanting more than a just room with a bed while vacationing on Utila. Each of the units is located on a paved road within a privacy fence with security lighting for your convenience. Each of these units boasts two decks, one of which is privacy partitioned. The Gardens is located just up and off of the Main Street, close enough to be “in town”, but far enough from the hustle and bustle of Main Street to allow for peace and privacy. These apartments are designed in a home style setting with all of the amenities you’d expect. Full sized refrigerators, glass panel stoves with ovens, built in overhead microwave units, stainless sinks with full time hot water, wall mounted televisions complete with cable, tiled showers with hot water and, of course, Wifi for those that need to stay connected to the world at large. These apartments are self catering with all linens, cookware, and tableware provided. All you need to bring with you is your clothes, groceries and a toothbrush to be right at home!

At the Gardens you can expect more than to just be pointed to your room. We strive to make your vacation as effortless as possible. Standard services include arranging pick up and return to your point of origin on the island, and provisioning and stocking prior to your arrival, if requested.

For those wanting intimate privacy, we have constructed an upscale, stand alone Cottage located within the privacy fence that surround the property. This Cottage is ideal for a couple wanting to get away from it all, yet have all of the amenities needed to feel pampered and at home. Custom cabinets in the kitchen were designed with ergonomics in mind making the kitchen immanently usable. The bathroom boasts a full height shower with ceramic tile with marble inserts and a glass block divider. The pedestal sink with wall mounted mirror/vanity optimizes good usage of space and and glass block recessed into the wall provides ambient light. The Cottage has quickly become a favorite with guests of The Gardens!

For those wanting to enjoy the diving that Utila is famous for we can provide a private dive boat with personal professional Dive Masters/IDC Instructors, or special arrangements can be made with select qualified local dive shops to include you in their groups. Certification in Diving is available from Beginner all the way to Advanced using Drager™ Dolphin Rebreathers and Closed Circuit Units. Diving alternatives such as horseback riding, boating, sailing charters, 4 wheel excursions or guided nature walks are only a request away.

The Gardens has access to the best in Catch and Release Deep Sea Fishing Charters, having custom boats on call with Captains who know and fish the Bay Islands.

The Gardens may not be for everyone, but it may be just what you’re looking for!

We enjoyed our stay. The apartment is convenient (we enjoyed walking!) and about 1.5 km from either end of the main road... Bando Beach one direction, Chepes Beach the other direction. Owners are responsive and prompt.

Quiet, peaceful, comfortable

Being a little higher in elevation, open windows allowed the breezes to cool us at night. Screens on all windows were great! We loved exploring the neighborhood. Friendly and knowledgeable manager made sure we had all we needed. One glitch - on arrival my phone could not find any wifi, thus my GPS could not work, and I could not connect to the site telling the location of the house. I also couldn't remember if the manager was meeting us at the ferry or the house... We had offered to walk to the property, but it was actually much further than it looked on maps (we are both way past 70), so owners should have told us to take a pedi-cab.

Great location, hospitable hosts

This was our first trip to Utila and boy were we happy to be off of Main Street - way too noisy with all of the 4-wheelers, motorcycles, tuk-tuks (pedestrians do NOT have the right of way in Utila). The Gardens is in a perfect location if you want to be able to walk to restaurants and shops but far enough away from Main St. to be quiet. The apartment itself was simple but nice. The owners provided a convenient starter supply of coffee, water, TP, and paper towel, and went out of their way to offer assistance. We went shopping in town and ran into Tony who offered to drive our groceries back so we could carry on with our dinner plans. NICE! The Wi-Fi was also good, better in the early and late evening when others were not on but certainly sufficient for email, FB, etc. In short, the location and hospitality cannot be beat.

Clean, comfortable, well appointed apt. situated convenient to restaurants and bars, but far enough from hustle of main street. Best part of stay were the hosts, Jo and Tony. Picked us up, arranged for soda and beer delivery, loaned us things from their kitchen, got us a deal on a scooter, sold the best orange juice you'll ever taste and were there whenever we needed. (just not before 9am) Would definitely stay again.

Great Experience!

The apartment was great, and the hosts were excellent. They gave us many suggestions of what to do throughout our time in Utila. It isn't located on the beach, so we ended up renting a golf cart. Which I would highly recommend, not only for returning to the house, but also driving around the island.

Beautiful apartment with the sweetest owners!!!

I have nothing but glowing remarks for The Gardens andn Jo and Tony. I arrived with multiple heavy suitcases and a cat that had just traveled 13 hours. They scooped me up from the ferry, helped me get kitty litter immediately and gave me a nice, personal tour of utila. Upon reaching my apt, I was super impressed and felt right at home. Jo and Tony have literally taken me under their wing and helped me get adjusted to life in utila. Anything I needed, they went out of their way to help me without a moment to lose. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at their apartment. It was bright, breezy, quiet, well-secured, beautifully landscaped and extremely comfortable. Great for anyone staying in Utila for a little while that wants a clean, beautiful spot removed far enough from the hustle and bustle but still close enough to shops, restaurants. Etc. Thanks for a spectacular experience :)

Our Time in Utila

Everyone says that Tony and Jo are wonderful people - they are correct. The gardens is an excellent place to stay. We stayed on the top floor, there was a living room and kitchen and then an air-conditioned bedroom. Well designed, functional space. We had two balconies - great for drying our stuff after diving. If you are going to Utila - you will enjoy the island - strongly consider staying at the Gardens, you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful place to stay on Utila

I rented one of the top apartments at The Gardens of Utilahomeaway for the month of May in 2015. The building is up the hill from the main drag so it’s close to the action without being in the middle of it. In other words, you can get a good night’s sleep here. The owners, Tony and Jo, are great. They have lived on Utila for years and they know everybody. If you need something, they will either get it for you, or know someone who can. Need a restaurant or dive shop recommendation? Talk to Tony and Jo. They were also wonderful when I got sick, stopping in to check on me and bringing electrolyte solution and Ensure to keep my strength up. Really sweet people. The apartment itself was perfect. It was a one bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a full kitchen. I never turned on the AC since electricity is so expensive on the island, but each room did have a ceiling fan. Cross-breezes through the open windows also helped keep the heat down. The bed was comfortable and Blanca came in once a week to clean. Water isn’t free but it is pretty cheap and you can arrange with Tony and Jo to have it delivered by the jug as needed. Likewise with electricity. It is not part of the rent. You pay for what you use, which is great motivation to not leave the AC running all day while you’re on the beach. There is a meter in the apartment that shows how many KwH are available. Just give money to Blanca or Tony & Jo when the meter balance gets low and they will top off the account. Just for comparison sake, I used about 6 KwH a day on average, which equated to ~ $3/day. Keep in mind that you are on an island in Honduras, so you have to set your expectations accordingly. Over the course of the month, there were electrical outages at least weekly, some lasting up to 6 hours. Also, the wi-fi could be frustratingly slow. Like I said, Utila is not 1st world so you can’t expect a 1st world infrastructure. That said, it is still a lovely place to relax and do some diving, and The Gardens is a great place to lay your head at the end of the day.

We have know Jo and Tony for years but had never stayed in one of their properties. The Gardens is a well maintained property in a quiet part of Utila. Jo and Tony are great hosts and will make sure you know your way around the island. You will not find a better place to stay for the price. Oh yeah, there's free apple bananas most of the time also.

Great Vacation

Tony & Jo provided "insider" information to help us plan our trip. They were great hosts and met us at the pier when we arrived. Once we were settled in, they gave us a tour and introduced us around. They even had dinner with us on the first night and gave us their cell phone in case we needed anything during our visit. The apartment was just as described, clean and very private. The location was great for us and we were able to sleep with the windows open. We would definately stay there again.

Fantastic Hosts

I found the Gardens online and ever so glad I did. If you want a great place to stay look no further. Jo & Tony are the best hosts I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Long before I departed for Utila I was in contact with them and was so looking forward to meeting them both. You cannot find anyone else who enjoys what they do more.There is nothing that they are not capable of doing or sourcing for you, I thought that they were going out of their way for myself but found out when I met them that is who they are. Nothing is overlooked, however large or small. They as most Utilians treat you with respect and with absolute professionalism. It is very hard to put into words what the two of them will do for you. Great location, GREAT support staff, clean, comfortable and private. I read many reviews about accommodations on Utila and kept on going back to the Gardens site and so glad I did. All in all it was a great time with them and will definitely going to go back to THE GARDENS. Thanks Tony, Jo and Staff.

Wonderfully quaint. Our stay at The Gardens for six weeks was more than expected, fully furnished, clean, and fantastic hospitality. Weekly cleaning service, fresh flowers upon request, and Just down the road from the water. Very safe and away from the noise of town. Perfect get away spot for anyone.

My Favorite Vacation

Tony and Jo are experienced travelers and have created a place that they would want to stay in. We've been around a bit, and I fully agree with their choices. My wife and I were at the Gardens for 48 days, and I wish we'd never have had to leave. They are the most personable and knowledgeable people you could ever hope to meet in the Caribbean, and they simply enjoy making your life easier. The property is lovingly designed and maintained, and no request or need is too small or too stupid (I lost our apartment key twice on the beach, and they never gave me crap about it - though my wife did). They stopped by nearly every day to see how things were going, and when we'd run into them in town they'd always take the time to ask how we were doing and if we needed anything. I can't say enough about their hospitality and kindness; they are great company and seem to get real JOY from helping idiots like me. Juan and Blanca work their butts off for them, and they are the kind of people you would want working for you. They were amazing, and I am a better person for having known them. Utila is not Disney World, Jamaica or Roatan. It is a far better and more interesting place in my reckoning, and Jo and Tony are absolutely the best people I can imagine to introduce you to, and make you comfortable in this very special island.

Great Vacay!

Our visit to Utila was memorable due to how welcoming Tony and Jo were. They gave us tips on where to go to since day one and helped us on our dr john tshirt hunt. The apartment is quite spacious with its kitchen, living room and balcony including all amenities like wifi and warm water and everything we needed Tony and Jo made it possible. We considered the location a plus, its close to the convience store but far from traffic noise.

EXCELLENT VACATION!

Prior to my arrival, I was a little concerned about getting transportation to and from Utila, but Tony and Jo came to my rescue asking for my flight itinerary and my worries were over! They picked me up at the airport, gave me a little tour around the town and then to the Gardens. My apartment was very comfortable with wi fi, kitchen, AC and right next door to my daughter and Grandbabies, so it was perfect! The location of the Gardens was in a great spot, only about a 10 to 15 min walk to the shops, restaurants, bars and grocery stores. The beach was sandy with clear water and a treat to swim in! Tony and Jo were perfect hosts always close by if we needed anything, it was a wonderful vacation!

We are Tony & Jo, and we've been happily living on Utila for over 20 years, living the life and the lifestyle that is Utila. We've been involved in everything from restaurants to bars, bars to hotels and real estate, and we currently own The Gardens, a boutique ApartHotel where each of the units is upscale and meant to provide our guests with a home like feel, instead of a normal hotel.

We ended up in hospitality by accident, and with neither of us having a background in it we simple decided to base what we do on the best experiences we have had in our extensive travels. One of the things that impressed us immensely in our travels was to find ourselves in a place where the owners responded to our questions or our concerns, and that is primarily what we have based our business model on. We hope that you'll find we answer yours!

​We have now been taking care of guests on Utila for well over fifteen years. In that time we have found ourselves in the position of having more and more properties outside of our own presented to us for rental and property management, and the need to present them in a competent and professional manner is our reasoning for our going formal with what we have been doing all along; hence Utila Vacation Rentals was formed for your convenience.

Why they chose this property

We think The Gardens is a property for travelers as opposed to tourists. It is located on a paved road (a boon in rainy season!) just up from Main Street so we don't get the street traffic going on constantly at The Gardens. It's a place to call home for the time you are there so fully stocked kitchens are in each unit. Sometimes we just want to have a quiet meal at home, and we find most of our guests do to. You can be "at home" at The Gardens.
