Space 2,800 sq ft
Property type cabin

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + 1000s/f Bunk Room, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 11-13)

Rushing River 3 story Paradise on 20 acres -- Riverbend of Alleghany is an amazing place!

Riverbend is a custom-made, three-story, 2,800 square foot(approx), Log Cabin Home located on a secluded, privately owned, wooded 20 acres right on the Little River in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Our 1,000 square foot bunk room with built in Swiss bunks, game room and french doors out to the river is amazing!

Some properties have a great view and some properties have a great house but THIS PROPERTY has both. Don't settle for an average living space just to get the view or sacrifice the view to get a great living space. Get both! The house is gorgeous and the river and property are stunning. When you compare us to other rentals, ask them 'How much land do you have?' Most of the other rentals in the area have a thin strip of land. We own the 20 acres Riverbend sits and another 10 or so acres with another house in close proximity. We have hundreds and hundreds of feet on the water! When you compare us, ask the other property 'are you right on the river?' The river is our front yard! You'll just love Riverbend! Check out our video at

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are so excited to open our first guest book this first day of February 2006! And we are even more thrilled to announce great additions to Riverbend! Last summer and fall, we were booked almost every single day. This winter, we added a 1,000 square foot Bunk Room with hand made built in bunks, entertainment center, game room [with ping pong] and a separate laundry room. Riverbend went from a great rental [we have mostly repeat customers] to a superior rental. Please call me personally if you have ANY questions. We know you will love this place! April 2016, men's getaway FISHING trip!

  • 5 of 5

We were a 6-man group doing a 3-day trip, though 1 ended up not going due to work.

Upon visiting, there were some things that stood out that we didn't get out of the previous reviews we read:

1. The magnificent panorama of picturesque space & depth you see when you pull up to the house. To take in the backdrop of the open plot of land, geese, lengthy flowing river, distant trees, hammocks, stone fire pit area, and quaint downward path of wooden steps, all while having an elevated view & an impressive cabin behind you, was an amazing thing. We all stopped for a while and just stared, saying nothing. Neither picture nor words will give you that "wow" moment of being there in person. Very cool.

2. Taking the steps down toward the river from the cabin isn't as bad as some reviews made us believe. Granted, going up & down a lot (if you forgot something, need to use the bathroom, or just looking for one of your friends) will of course give your legs a workout. The steps are nicely done though, and anyone that has difficulty can easily take them at a slower pace. Being outdoorsy people, we saw it as a luxury by having steps that take you from a cabin on a hill down to a river. Maybe some expect an escalator.

3. The river was deeper & closer than we thought. We threw a stone into it from the front porch, though it took our hardest throw. We were pleased to find it was the perfect depth to wade in (range of 1 to 4ft, avg of 2½ft), good flow for moving fish around, and clean & clear water (we had no rain).

4. The fishing was better than we expected. We went mid-spring when the water was at the right temperature for the bite to be "on". First cast landed a 14" trout. Bottom fishing with Gulp trout bait worked, but even better was light-tackle lure fishing with beetle spinners. I'm guessing some visitors aren't used to river fishing. It's not like fishing a lake or pond. Wading through the water is best so you can keep on the move and cast a lot to find the holes & rocks the fish are hiding by. We waded hundreds of feet in both directions. Mainly, 3 of us fished. We caught 17 fish in 2 days, consisting of brown trout, horny head chub, and smallmouth bass. Tasty!

It's been close to a year since our visit, and we all can't wait to go back. This place immediately transcends time, in that you feel you have known & made fond memories there your whole life. The custom details inside the cabin seem limitless, and the back lawn is perfect to use your own cornhole boards!

Owner's Response: Steve, my name is Spencer; my wife and I own Riverbend. Thank you for the awesome review. You really captured the essence of the place. It's hard to put into words, but Riverbend does inspire a sense of timeless wonder. I have only one request--teach me how to fish the river!

In the words of my teenager “This place is dope!”

  • 5 of 5

And I do have to agree with my son, Riverbend is a gorgeous house sitting on a stunning parcel of land. After following a winding one lane gravel driveway you come upon the house a top a hill with the Little River rushing below. The towering pines provide total seclusion and an amazing view in every direction.

Inside the house you are greeted by a traditional cabin with light wood hues, but with every modern convenience. The kitchen is small but well equipped with nice appliances and drawers filled with utensils of every kind. We made quite a few meals and took advantage of the gas grill on the deck as well. The large wooden table was great for meals and family game night.

The living room furniture is comfortable and a nice place to curl up with a book or to watch a movie. The WIFI signal was strong, we had it all the way down on the river! And that was great because we had zero phone signal for miles around. That was pretty great too as it allowed us to escape the real world for a while.

There was plenty of room for the six of us to spread out and have some privacy if desired. The beds were all super comfy and decked out with plenty of pillows and linens. There was also no shortage of big fluffy towels. The a/c kept the main floor nice and cool, the loft was a little warmer, but fans throughout the house kept the air circulating.

The lower level was great, two of the kids slept on the loft beds and had their own hang out area and bathroom. The laundry room is also downstairs and they even supplied detergent and dryer sheets which was a nice surprise. Best part was going home with bags full of clean clothes!

Now the best part, the river. We spent most of our days wading, floating and fishing. The water is cool and refreshing even on the warmest days. While we didn’t catch any keepers, it was a lot of fun learning how to fish a river and we caught enough to keep us casting. Having our pups with us was also super fun. They splashed around the river with the kids and explored the woods.

If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature while still having modern convenience, this is the place to go. Kids and adults alike loved this property and made some amazing memories at Riverbend. And Susan is a breeze to work with and the owner Kat checked in with us to make sure everything was to liking. All around a wonderful experience.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely time at Riverbend! It was so relaxing to be by the river and the firepit was so much fun! The house is beautiful and was the perfect size for our 2 families (8 people - adults and teens - total). We had all we needed to enjoy our getaway. The communication we received from the owner before our trip was fantastic - I really appreciate the information and specifics about what to do or not do before we left. The owner called me a few days after our stay to check in and make sure we had everything we needed and to ask if there was anything they could do better. I really appreciate that and would highly recommend this place to anyone!

This cabin was great! Very clean, charming, and just beautiful inside and out. The property is secluded which we loved. The river below was wonderful - we spent each evening around the fire. It was perfect. The beds were very comfy, home well stocked with everything we needed and more. My only suggestion is it would be great to have some marked walking trails on the property. With 20 acres it would be awesome to hike on the property. I would absolutely recommend this property.

Another wonderful weekend at Riverbend

  • 5 of 5

The best way for me to rate how we feel about Riverbend is to say this was our 12th visit! It is perfect for a large family or friend group to have indoor or outdoor time together and is set up for privacy or togetherness. It is beautiful, well maintained, and has a well stocked kitchen, great sound and TV access. But who wants to stay in when the beautiful river and the fire pit beckon? This year our WIFI was down and cell access is very limited, but with board games, ping pong, and trails to explore, it was really a blessing!

Peaceful weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a long weekend here with our dog and it was everything we were hoping it would be! The cabin was beautiful, had everything we needed and was very clean. We loved spending the mornings sitting on the deck in the rocking chairs drinking our coffee and listening to the river down below. We brought waders and did some fishing during the day. We caught some small fish-nothing exciting but it was just nice to be outside and take in the beautiful scenery. Our dog enjoyed running around in the yard and snuggling on the hammock by the river! Thank you for sharing your home!
