Private historical completely renovated cottage with 60 ft dock on Sarasota Bay

The Gray House is a completely renovated historical cottage dating back to the early 1900s, in the historical fishing village of Cortez, Florida. The village was founded in 1865. The house was built on stilts by Mr. Ireland in1870 . He sold the house to Grey Fulford in 1931. Grey moved the house on to land.
He married Priscilla Pringle and lived there until 1989.
The cottage has original hardwood floors, marble counter tops ,and beautiful views. The cottage has a king bed, pull out couch in the second bedroom , dish washer, built in refrigerator, gas stove, large microwave, grill, table and chairs on the back deck. The bath is spacious with a walk in double shower. There are 2 TVs with internet stations and apple tv.
The house is located on a 2.5 acre lot with a 60 foot dock on Sarasota Bay. There is (1) deep water slip and Kayaks (3) available on the premises with (3) fishing rods and beach equipment..
The cottage has plenty of parking for boat trailers It is landscaped with indigenous plants only. The house is wheel chair accessible from a walkway and ramps up through the back door.
This is a perfect place to getaway and safely, relax.
The cottage is dog friendly but 😣 no cats or birds .

We had a fabulous time! The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. We fished off of the dock and walked over to Anna Maria Island everday. The beaches are lovely. Very friendly people and the weather was perfect. Communication with Steve was very good. Great seafood restaurants. We loved Tide Tables!

This is a favorite getaway cottage for our family. With stunning water views in the historic fishing village of Cortez it is truly a “gem”. The host Robert is always helpful, welcoming and responsive. It has plenty of space outdoors for eating, relaxing, playing games. We love the kitchen and indoor space after enjoying visits to the beaches and Sarasota. As a historical neighborhood, It is also great for walking and exploring. Look forward to our next visit!

This has to be the best property we have stayed at yet. The house was equipped with everthing you need. Everything was right at your fingertips. Location was excellent as well, ver close to everything, restuarants, beach, souviner shops, even St Armands Circle was not far away. Just the perfect place to get away.

This well-appointed home with modern amenities is quiet, comfortable and on the water. Watch boats go by, fish jump out of the water and a variety of waterbirds. We were fortunate to see wild parrots land on a nearby tree! Enjoy the peaceful view from two sets of sliders, back porch and dock, or explore the many beaches, restaurants and shops.

Comfort by the Sea

We had a great time at the Gray Fulford House. Two bedrooms was perfect for our family. The pull out couch in the second bedroom was very comfortable. So easy to get to the beaches, though plan carefully if you have to go out on the weekends. We had to run to the store and it took forever to get back to the cottage, as everyone was trying to get to the beach. We loved using the kayaks and seeing all the birds, lizards and fish. It was a quiet neighborhood, but the few random people we saw out and about were very friendly. The owner was quick to fix the bikes as my husband got a flat tire on his ride. The deck stairs and dock into the water are a bit different than the photos online, but I'm guessing this is due to the hurricane last year. Still very safe and sturdy to go on though.

Wonderful place!

The house and location were amazing. We came shortly after the hurricanes (Helene and Milton), so the area was still rebuilding, but this house was an oasis. You can't beat the view, walking distance to some great restaurants, truly a special place. The house was very clean and equipped with almost everything you could possibly need. Can't wait to come back!

Fantastic Stay!

Such a wonderful rental. It's a historic property with an above average renovation. The amenities and host communication made for an excellent stay We were there a couple of weeks after the hurricanes and except for a couple of exterior features the entire property was near perfect.

Spectacular

This location is so perfect. We live in a year round tourist area so we were after some peace. So close to Anna Maria for the beaches. Lots of seafood within walking distance. Great fishing off the pier. Very well appointed private house. Kitchen and bathrooms, awesome! Bonus- fridge makes ice. Close to Bradenton for anything at all you may need. I highly recommend this property and plan on visiting again. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for. We never even turned on a tv as there was plenty to watch live off the Large back deck (which is covered). Thank you for such a great 60th birthday. Cortez is a gem of a spot.

Amazing and relaxing home

We absolutely loved the house, property, and community. The house is very beautifully renovated and has very high quality amenities. So nice to be right on the Bay, spent lots of time bird watching and just relaxing. The house really encourages you to kick back and relax. I've been going to Cortez Village for years to go to the Starfish Company so highly recommend supporting this great local business. Make sure to go to their fish market for delicious fresh local fish to cook on the grill at the house. Host was very responsive and flexible. Amazing experience! We will definitely be back!

Well suited for a couples getaway!

This is a very quiet and relaxing space, and is set up well for a couple. Within three or four blocks of the cottage there are places you can walk to have a meal. Within a 20 minute drive is one of the nicest beaches we’ve ever seen. The location is about a half hour from Sarasota and about an hour from St. Petersburg. There are some lovely restaurants located Ana Maria Island about 20 minutes drive. The cottage itself is outfitted well, clean and we found everything we needed. It was comfortable and restful. This location is superb for birdwatching. You will see all kinds of waterfowl. It was like a continual parade of Heron, pelican, and other birds like frigatebirds. I highly recommend it!

Our favourite getaway!

A few years ago we found this listing and have found our perfect “getaway” retreat and have stayed many times since. It has now become a place where we share many memories with our daughter most recently Mother’s Day and a Birthday. The space is beautifully decorated with along with a beautiful gourmet kitchen that we love to prepare meals in. With waterfront views and a patio deck with plenty outdoor seating to relax and cook on a Weber grill we need not go anywhere although there is plenty to do being close to to Anna Marie Island and Longboat Key as well as Sarasota/Bradenton for plenty of activities. the owners are always helpful and friendly and make us feel right at home. Highly recommend!

I'm a retired pharmacist. originally i moved to the village in 1976. in 1979 i moved to key west and spent my whole career there. I retired in 2012 and bought a cottage in the village in 2013 ,which i rented as a vacation rental. In 2017 I moved into this cottage, where I now live. Last august I bought The Gray House and I am now renting it as a vacation rental.

Cortez village is one of the last functioning fishing village still left in Florida. The ambiance of the old houses, coast guard station, , the public dock, the fishermen
bring in catches every day to Bell's fish house, the fresh fish daily at Starfish market, the local café , the local bars, the low tourist traffic, all add up to a great experience

Cortez has laid back quite atmosphere nestled close to the Anna Maria island beaches, close to Sarasota night life, close to Siesta Key shopping, close to boat tours and off shore fishing, close and to Tampa Bay Sports football, baseball and hockey.
