We really enjoyed the peaceful country setting, porch overlooking the pond, well equipped kitchen, and very comfortable beds. We had a group of 12 and there were enough beds and bathrooms for all of us to be comfortable. The location was perfect for exploring Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave National Park, and Hot Springs. We would recommend!

This place was amazing! We have a large family and they were able to accommodate for everyone in our family. The place is very well taken care of and quiet, and the hosts were very engaging and friendly. We had all the information we needed well in advance. If you have a large family, I'd strongly suggest their place. It was very cozy and homey.

Great location

We really enjoyed our stay. Comfortable for 6 adults and 6 children. The outdoor area and shuffleboard table were great. Would definitely stay again!

Check in/out process was well defined and easy to follow. Property was well suited for a group and had all of the amenities that we needed. Laundry on both floors was handy and the kitchen was well stocked to prep food for a larger family/group.

Winter stay

The house was great for a large group. Well set up for cooking, eating together and games. Owner was very helpful, check in with us via phone and answered all questions

Wonderful home!

The famiy had so much fun using the outside area with all the seating, fire pit and view. The most amazing sight was the horses that run up to the fence and greeted the kids. The home is very clean and spacious. We had a fantastic stay.

Beautiful views

This property worked really well for our multifamily group of 10. We had lots of space to spread out and the views of the lake and wildlife were great. It was especially nice when the horses were hanging out in the pasture across the road. The location was great, right by Custer State Park.

Home away from Home!

Had everything we needed to accommodate our family- easy access for all! The fire pit was a hit after a long day of being tourists especially for the grandkids! Quiet peaceful lots of animals around! Nice!

Family vacation

Very nice place, stayed with our family of 8 adults 4 children, plenty of room and beds. Very clean! Beds super comfortable! Everything you could possibly need in this place including lots of appliances in kitchen! Enjoyed the firepit outside and close to trails for 4 wheeling.

Beautiful countryside experience.

This property had lots of room for our family and so many amenities. We enjoyed the evenings outdoors by the fire pit. We watched the wildlife and beautiful nighttime sky. Short drive to Custer and Hill City. Overall a beautiful home.

The best for large families!

We stayed at the Little Brown House while on a family vacation. We had 5 kids, 4 and under, and 8 adults. We had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy each other. We loved that the house was stocked with all the essentials as if it was our own! Plus the outdoor space was beautiful! We were even greeted a few times by the horses nearby! Definitely recommend this space for large groups.

Custer Getaway

This place was exactly as pictured, actually it's even larger than what we were expecting. There were 3 of us couples, we rented UTV's in Hill City for 3 days and had the best time. The house and property was so relaxing and quiet. The views from the front and back were awesome. The big picture windows in the front looked out over a beautiful lake and the back was a serene meadow with deer every evening.

July 2021 vacation in the Black Hills

The property suited our needs. Space for 8 of us 4 adults and 4 children between 13 and 4. Great location for touring Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, Jewel Cave and Wind Cave. We took a day trip to Devils Tower - a 2 hour drive. Enjoyed the deck and outdoor fire pit. Saw elk and deer from this home, Thanks for the memories.

Perfect Place for Our Whole Family

Came for a wedding in Custer State Park, and this was the perfect place for our large family of kids and grandkids to stay. Plenty of place for sleeping and getting fixed up for a wedding. Great steamer to get all the travel wrinkles out! Loved morning coffee outside on the beautiful patio area. Well stocked kitchen with anything you could need. Two coffee pots to keep us all caffeinated.😊 Lower level bathroom so wonderful with blue tooth speaker. We all loved our stay!!

Cute, cozy

Very cute cozy place to stay! They have Almost anything you need for the kitchen! Loved having access to 2 washer and dryer sets for clothes, because with kids things happen and it helped lessen the amount of dirty laundry we brought home. Ladies, we all know what the laundry situation is when we get back from vacation! Loved the location with it being so close to Custer state park. We saw wildlife in the mornings and evenings, the fire pit area is great for campfires! Would stay here again. Joy was absolutely wonderful to work with!!

Great house with all you need for a great stay

Clean, plenty of space, and great amenities for a 6 bedroom to help make your stay great. From Kitchen supplies, cooking supplies and options from large Blackstone grill to insta-pot to ninja grill. Which is needed for a large house with large capacity. Awesome outdoor area with large sitting area to a nice firepit area which has access to the garage which has a second frig and a shuffleboard table. Also great fishing for the kids on the small pond/lake across the road. My family truly enjoyed our stay. Thanks.

We loved this house! The cleanliness, the kitchen, the view, the firepit area, the comfy beds, the location, the communication--all were excellent! This is one of those VRBO's where you really enjoy coming back "home" at the end of an adventure. The garage was open, and we used the space to store our gear. One caveat--the downstairs is much cooler than the upstairs, and the stairs to the basement are steep (which is mentioned in the description). A small negative in a very large ocean of positives. We would absolutely rebook The Brown House if we returned to South Dakota!

Nice older home fit our needs.

Not a fancy house but that was nice as we had little kids with us so no need to fuss. House was clean which we appreciated. Not a lot of cooking space so if you're cooking for a big group this might be a bit challenging. No dishwasher.

Thank you. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The house was originally built in 1957, but all flooring and carpets were replaced in 2021. We also freshly painted all of the house, updated the trim, purchased beds and linens and put in a large firepit area. The kitchen area is shown in the pictures and flows into the dining area. I’m so glad you enjoyed the house.

First time out west!

My husband and I brought our 4 children, 3 spouses and 2grandsons to SD. House was perfect for our large group. Beds were great, plenty of towels and temperature was very comfortable. Opened the windows at night and it was cool, closed them in the morning and the house stayed cool. Joy and Matt were helpful and neighbor saved our fire pit night with dry wood after it rained much of one day. I would easily recommend this house as it was convenient to downtown Custer, the state park and Mt Rushmore. And if you want to see the Buffalo , go later in the afternoon or dusk. The kids saw none when they went early morning, but HERDS later in the day😉

Sturgis Motorcycle Trip

The overall experience with the property itself was very good. The location is not ideal for motorcycles because you have to drive on a dirt/stone road to get to the property and the parking is not the best. The only complaint with the house is the steps leading to the basement. They are shorter than normal and have a very steep incline. The location itself is beautiful, set back in a valley overlooking a field. Wildlife (deer, turkey, elk, geese and horses) all around you. In the evening you could hear the coyotes talking back and forth. I would rent this place again, however, I would not do it for Sturgis Bike week. The owners were very responsive (answered in minutes) when we needed something.
