Casita Montalbano - Sleeps 8 to 10 - Private River Access - Pet Friendly Cabin
Rustic 80-year old classic country cabin with lots of charm and tons of amenities. Sleeps up to 10 (more or less), total of 8 beds including a queen sleeper sofa in secondary bedroom. Dining room table inside house can seat 8-9. Large dining table on back screen porch overlooking backyard can seat 10 or more. Two tables on deck can seat 10, for those that like to dine (breakfast, lunch or dinner) ‘al fresco’ outside with the nice country air. Seating area with a few rocking chairs on back screen porch is perfect for coffee in the morning, wine in the evening – or just relaxing with a good book while watching the numerous birds. Backyard has a net for volleyball or badminton, as well as a bocce and horseshoe court … there are also mallets for a nice match of croquet. For parking, there is a private drive and a rustic carport with enough space for 4-6 cars to park here and there. To get down to the private riverfront patios, you can walk down the hill (5 minutes) or drive with floats, kayak paddles, ice chests, etc. (1 minute by car). Down at the river there are 2 river patios, 4 kayaks (more kayaks to come soon) and the beautiful Guadalupe River, which is generally clean-looking and perfect for swimming, floating, tubing, kayaking and just relaxing in the cool water. Oh, and dogs really, really love it! LOL Speaking of dogs, pets are allowed, but of course there are pet rules that must be abided by – namely, no dogs on the neighbor’s property, you must pick up after your dog(s) at all times, and pets are not allowed on any furniture, like, ever. Back up at the cabin, there is a ‘bunkhouse’ which contains all of the river equipment you could possibly want, but you are also welcome to bring your own – be sure to ask what we have. There are also two BBQ grills – one is for charcoal/mesquite, one is an old electric George Foreman. In order to use these grills, you must agree to clean them after use or before departing, out of respect for the next guests and our cleaning lady. Note that inside the house there are only two sofas in the living room area for about 5-6 people, but there are plenty of extra chairs and many other sitting areas. Also note that for now there is only one shower – a second shower will be added soon, but so far in over 80 years of this house being in our family the one shower has never been an issue, nor has it for any guests. The kitchen is fully loaded with almost all of the spices, condiments, utensils and appliances that you can think of, so you really only need to bring your food, and that’s it. Same with the bathrooms and bedrooms – fully loaded with towels, linens, cleaning supplies, toiletries. And the laundry room is available for your use, as well. Last, but not least, there is a game closet with a number of board games, as well as a DVD player with approx 20-30 movies. Ahhh, and a popcorn maker! Most importantly, though, from our family to yours we would like to see you relax, rest, have fun, laugh, celebrate, eat well and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful nature of the Texas Hill Country! :)

The most generous host I’ve ever dealt with and the place is stunning. Photos really do not do it justice. Tons of stuff to do, easy to get to, and gorgeous scenery all around. We will absolutely be back, and cannot wait!
“One of the best vacations i’ve had in a very long time.”
My family, 2 dogs included, had a wonderful time at this cabin. This felt like a great getaway from work and daily life routine. We walked our way down to the river and had a blast. We were also about 45mins away from Fredericksburg. Secluded enough to enjoy family time. 10/10. Definitely coming back one day!
Our crew loved our time at this sweet classic cabin! All the charm and comfort you could ask for and a truly hospitable host. We kept commenting all weekend that we felt like we would be best friends with the host because their cabin felt so perfect in all the ways that mattered to us. Also, this is the CLEANEST pet friendly VRBO I have ever stayed in.
The house was cool and comfy. There was every cooking aid, pot, dish spice needed. The host was very nice, and offered an extended stay. There were plenty of dog toys, extra food, an opportunity to feed the resident birds.., thumbs up.
My family and I stayed here and could not be happier with this place! The place was large enough to fit a mix of kids and adults without issue, and the price river access cannot be beat. This house has everything you could possibly need, including an ice cream maker. The host is as nice as they come and I'm sure we will be back in the future.

Very kind words, MIchael, thank you SO much, and it was an absolute pleasure to host you and your family! :)
The property had many indoor and outdoor games to entertain yourself with. My family of 6 and our dog went for 5 days and we were very comfortable. We went during cold weather so we did not get in the river but they had plenty of floaties, kayaks and fun toys for the river. Very pet friendly. Our children enjoyed the closet with puzzles and games, the badminton, hammocks, smores by the fire and exploring by the river. They had many things available for you from kitchen supplies to laundry. I would recommend!

Thank you for being my first guest on VRBO, and my very first review, Melissa! I appreciate your kinds words, and it was an absolute pleasure to host you and your family. Yes, it was indeed unusually cold at the beginning of March for your stay, but I am so happy you made the most of it ... I hope you will come back soon when the weather and river are warmer, so that you can enjoy kayaking, floating and swimming on the beautiful Guadalupe River! :)
My husband and I took our teenage kids this past weekend for a little weekend family getaway. We've been to this area several times and have stayed at other places. We had a wonderful weekend away and made so many great memories in such a small window of time. The host has thought of everything and left no stone unturned when it comes to their guests. We spent lots of time outdoors playing badminton, horseshoes, and going kayaking. Our evenings were spent by a campfire talking and laughing. This rental far exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be returning to this little slice of heaven in Ingram.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Jessica, I absolutely look forward to your return! :)
We rented the Casita during our grandson's baseball tournament in Kerrville. The house was very comfortable for all of us, the beds were amazing, and they have anything you can need to make your stay enjoyable. My sixteen-year-old grandson even managed to google how to make cookies without eggs and made them just out of the pantry staples they had on hand for our use. We really enjoyed the screened patio and the open deck on the back of the house.
As far as being pet friendly, they had plenty of stuff for the dogs as well, toys, extra bowls, tie downs in the yard, the dogs had a great visit.
We will definitely try to book again in the warmer months so that we can utilize the river and river patio. Tom the owner is very easy to work with and was very helpful if we had any issues or questions. Lori is the housekeeper for this property, and she does a great job of keeping up with everything, she is pretty amazing.

OMG, Debbie, thank you for your kind words, I wasn't expecting that AT ALL! And I say that with all sincerity because hardly anyone leaves reviews on VRBO, in my short experience on this platform, and so to wake up and see your nice review really made my day. Yes, please come back during the warmer months, I promise you won't regret it - the river, kayaks, floats, rope swing, canoe and dam-sliding on Lake Ingram make all the difference in the world. And, YES, we are 100% pet-friendly, thank you for pointing that out. So glad you won so many games in your baseball tournament!! :)
First of all you cannot find a better host than Tom! He's absolutely thought of everything for your stay. Everywhere you look there is something available for you including water, cooking supplies, first aid, toiletries, river toys and so much more! It was an absolute pleasure. He made us feel like we were family. The rooms are comfortable. The house is precious and wonderfully decorated. There's plenty of space and seating for our large family. The river front is lovely as well and a bunkhouse full of all the things you could imagine.. water shoes, life vests, inflatables, water toys... And, when you're ready to explore, Tom gives you a list of restaurants and events in Kerrville and the surrounding areas. No need to do a ton of research before you go either. As a mom of 4, this made our vacation so easy. We didn't have to pack much for each kid (there are two sets of washer and dryers with detergent!) and we picked up curbside from HEB. Couldn't have been easier! THANK YOU TOM for making our family vacation a BREEZE!! It was just the recharge we needed.. Forever gratelful <3

Wow, Tracie, thank you SO much for these kind words! I am really, really happy that you and your family had a nice vacation ... that puts a BIG smile on my face knowing that you all enjoyed the cabin and the river as much as our family does ... please come back soon!! :)
Wonderful communication with Tom! FIVE stars through & through. Home was clean, kitchen was stocked, plenty of games for our teenagers. We enjoyed s’more‘s by the campfire. Tom had ideal local restaurant recommendations. The trail to the riverfront was peaceful. Enjoyed the nature. Great stay, highly recommend!

About the host
Hosted by Tom Montalbano
Howdy! My name is Tom Montalbano, I am a native Texan, my grandfather built this small cabin over 80 years ago as an escape from the city, work and the heat and humidity of Houston during the stifling hot summers - also to be in the middle of nature and breathe in some clean, fresh air, since my mom had severe allergies and asthma. Our family has enjoyed this cabin and neck of the woods between Kerrville and Hunt, right on the Guadalupe River, for over 80 years, and we continue to come back every month while sharing it with friends, family and beautiful guests like you in between our stays. I personally enjoy being a host because this place makes people happy, which makes me happy - guests are able to relax, unwind and have a nice, peaceful time in the middle of nature, while enjoying the fresh, cool waters of the Guadalupe - oh, and doggies really, really love the river! From our family to yours, we welcome you with open arms and sincerely hope you enjoy your stay!! :)
What makes this property unique
A couple things make our property stand out above and beyond most others that rent our their cabin in the Texas Hill Country. First, we are directly on the river - the property, that is, not the cabin - therefore, you just need to walk or drive down the hill from the cabin/casita (five minutes walking, one minute by car) and you will be at our riverfront with one or two private patios for your use. Second, we are pet-friendly. Most cabins in the hill country are NOT pet-friendly, and it can be hard to find one for rent that is. But we LOVE dogs (and all animals), so we really, really want them to come on vacation with you, if that's what you want. Of course, there are some pet rules, which I will send to you, and there is a modest pet fee of only $40. Third, our check-in and check-out times are very flexible. Most rentals want you out by 11 AM, or something crazy like that ... instead we allow you to check out whatever time you want, so that you can enjoy the entire day at the cabin or down by the river. Finally, although this cabin/casita is over 80 years old and sometimes has cracks, bugs and cobwebs (which we clean and keep to a minimum), you will see that my grandfather put a lot of care and love into building this little cabin, with its unique wood, cedar posts, paneling and furniture - in other words, it's not a cold, cookie-cutter type of rental with no heart or soul - it feels warm and homey. Hope you enjoy! :)
