Wonderful place to stay on the lake. Everything was clean, well equipped, and thoughtfully set up. The host was very welcoming and went out of their way to offer advice and recommendations that made our stay even better.
This was our second year in a row staying at Daniels Retreat with our family. They have something for everyone! We highly recommend Daniels Retreat for your family get away!
I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful this place is. I traveled here after being away for 35 years and I must say the accommodations were more than I expected. The place spacious and Brian the host was so helpful. If you’re looking to make memories this is the place to do it.
Everything was wonderful! We had 6 adults and one baby. The cabin was spacious and cozy. The Lake was gorgeous! Fishing could have been better, but we caught enough for a meal! We would definitely stay here again!
We had a great week at the cabin. Even with the weather only being so-so, we had plenty of options for activities inside. Hosts checked in to see if we had everything we needed, and we certainly did! It was fantastic!
The property is in a very nice secluded area on the south end of the lake. The house is big enough for our group of 10

Thanks for the great review and we're glad you and your group enjoyed their stay! We couldn't agree more with you as the privacy and up north feel is why we fell in love with the property. We look forward to having you come back in the future.
We had a large group with 6 adults and 6 kids and we all fit comfortably with plenty of room for all! It worked great for our family and we enjoyed our stay very much. The screened porch was wonderful! The beachfront wasn't great for swimming for the littles, but we rented a pontoon and had a great time swimming on the sandbar in the lake every day instead!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We're working to update the beach area and create a better swimming area for kids of all ages. Some of the enhancements can be seen in the updated pictures. The sandbar is a great place to swim, fish and just hang out and I'm glad you all enjoyed it! It's our favorite spot on the lake. We hope to have you back!

Our family had an amazing time. We got to celebrate a 60th birthday with family. Our week was filled with games, fishing, laughter around the fire and lots of food. We saw the prehistoric snapping turtle 😉, beaver, deer, a bear and even had a chipmunk family that hung around us by the fire. We loved every minute of our time together at this beautiful location. 💗
Excellent property. Plenty of parking, even for boat and side by side trailer. Many amenities. Take extension cords for boat battery and bring ice...although these will probably be fixed soon. Screened back porch is awesome!

Nice cabin!
We had a great time at this cabin. We spent most of out time on the big screened-in deck on the second floor overviewing the lake. Room for multiple families. The cabin is in great shape and makes for a comfortable stay.
There is a pontoon boat available for $100/day with a minimum two-day rental. It would be nice is there were a canoe or other human-powered boat available for free.
Fair warning, the wi-fi was slow and very unreliable. Don't expect to be able to skype into work or stream Netflix.

Matt, Thank you for your response and I agree with you the wireless misses the mark beyond Wi Fi calling and texting/email. The dsl provider only offers one speed and I look forward to future faster options which I will upgrade when available. I will consider adding a human powered boat /canoe for next season.
small correction on Pontoon it is a 3 day minimum rental. Appreciate you staying with us and look forward to earning your return in late season or 2019.
Sincerely,
m

Beautiful house with everything you'll need.
The house is lovely. No need to bring anything except personal belongings and food. It was clean and bug free. The screened in porch is a great addition. The 2 floors made it nice because with 4 month old twins we didn't hear them getting up at 5 am with their parents to eat.The bottom wooden deck is extremely slippery when wet. 2 of us fell on it. There really is no beach area and the water quite murky at that end of the lake. The lake is quite a walk from the house which was very difficult for the elderly person in our group. The fireplace was very nice and the Weber grill on the premises was very useful.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you enjoyed your vacation and liked the cabin. The spacious cabin and porch are always the favorites. Thank you for your insight on the deck, we will power clean it this fall, we have had quite a bit of rain and it must have became slippery. Big Sissabagama is know for having iron in the water giving the lake a "reddish" appearance sometimes. It is very clear at the beginning of the summer but we have reached the end of the summer and it does get hazy with a reddish tone.
Thank you for your stay and I hope you will return again.

Beautiful, private location. House was clean and nicely stocked with towels, tp, paper towels, garbage bags, dishwasher/laundry detergent- it was nice to not have to bring everything for our stay! Comfortable beds and couches. Screened porch was a great escape from the skeeters! Owner was very nice and responsive before/during our stay. Shoreline is a bit more “natural” than swimming beach, so I can see how other reviews were disappointed. Our kids still enjoyed the kayaks and stand up boards! Same with internet speed, not what we’re used to but adjusted expectations for the northwoods and it’s good enough! Just not the same thing you’ll get in more developed areas, but part of the experience is to “disconnect”. Overall, a great week and we’d definitely rent here again!!
Our family enjoyed our stay at Daniel's Retreat. We had plenty of space for our family of 5 to spread out. The kids loved having the wii and smart tvs for the rainy days. We found plenty of blankets, towels. And TP! The kitchen was supplied with cooking utensils but prepare to bring all seasonings, oils, basics for food prep. We planned on buying groceries once we arrived so we added it to our list. We rented a pontoon and it was great to have the new dock available. We all spent hours on the lake boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. We made great use of the provided kayaks. The owners were quick to respond with any questions we had. This was definitely an enjoyable vacation and we wouldn't hesitate to return!
A well-appointed magnificent cabin with ample space, gorgeous views, and supplying the whole northern Wisconsin lake experience. Thanks!!

No swimming from beach
Place is so so. We’ve found better for the price. There is NO swimming from the property itself. You would have to pay for a boat rental and boat to small swimming area. Hard to fish from pier-lots of weeds and lily pads. Home is smaller than it looks in pictures. WiFi is TERRIBLE. Only worked a little better if one device was connected at a time. Don’t plan to zoom or work from here. It would be nice to have more stuff for kids to do here, like a swing set or yard or beach toys or something.

We have worked very hard to create an amazing retreat for our guests and always wish for them to have the best time. To address the items you commented on…We have a very detailed VRBO listing including professional photos and virtual tour of both the inside and outside of the cabin to ensure an accurate depiction for potential guests. The VRBO listing also states the square footage of the home (2,200 sq ft) and amenities included. We provide kayaks, paddle boat, and a fire pit for outdoor enjoyment as well as games, foosball, dvds, wii, for indoor enjoyment. There is also a large yard and beach area for guests to enjoy. We were very surprised to see your comment on the WiFi as we have had wonderful success. Last winter we had multiple children on zoom all day during distance learning while also working full time with several zoom calls a day. We also provide YouTube TV through WiFi and have had no issues streaming. We always try to make ourselves readily available, so we certainly wish you would have addressed this with us during your stay, as we may have been able to assist you. As for the beach/swimming area…we have been working to create a better swimming area for all ages. We cleaned up the shoreline, brought in sand and continue to clean up the weeds/ swimming area! We appreciate your feedback and will always continue to improve our retreat!
Nice gradual slope to lake- easy, safe to navigate for all ages. Fun lake! Good fishing and sandbars for swimming.

Thank you so much for your kind review! We are so glad to hear it worked well for your group. We’ve worked really hard to freshen the inside and outside up, and the fish cleaning shed was an addition this year. So glad to hear it worked out so well!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Big Siss Retreat. Mitchell was very responsive and the cabin is beautiful! Absolutely spotless and secluded. Will definitely return!
The pictures do not do this place justice! I mean it was the most serene and beautiful weekend! There was plenty of room! One couple couldn't find a sitter so we said bring the kids. There was enough room for everyone! No one ever felt crowded in. We used the indoor and outdoor fireplace/ pit. We drank at the bar and swung on the hammocks! The scenery was nothing short of AWESOME! I only use that word when it comes to God's Beauty!! The screen in porch was one of my favorite parts. I rose up early every morning and had my coffee alone without fear of a bear eating me🤣. FYI we didn't see any bears. Mitch was really helpful and responsive. The place had EVERY utensil for cooking known to man. I actually have never seen a cutting board that big🤣🤣. The only downside is I didn't take Mitch's advice and rent a boat!! Next time we will. There will be a next time!
Our trip was a last minute booking, late in the season. Even though the weather was cool and rainy, we had a great family time in this property. The owner is very responsive and easy to communicate with. The kitchen is well stocked. The only negative I can think of is that the oven and refrigerator, porch and window sills could be cleaner. Overall a terrific rental experience.
Nearly at the end of a dead-end road, the cabin affords its occupants with a quiet and comfortable retreat. The screen porch was a relaxing setting for reading and conversation over a cup of coffee.
