Overview

About the property

House, Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Experience the incredible beauty of the north shore at the Teak Room in Haena, Kauai, located in the heart of the most beautiful 10 miles of the island. We are close to Tunnels Beach, and set between two of the top five rated beaches on the islands. Kepuhi beach is 50 yards down the driveway; directly behind is lush jungle hillside, the border to 1000's of acres of private nature conservancy land. All tucked into a quiet, secluded, tree lined cul-de-sac.

Private, comfortable, and luxurious, the Teak Room interior features a hand carved four poster king-size bed, wood floors, and tropical décor, along with an equipped kitchenette and an extra large walk in closet. Outside are 2 lanais with a bbq, and an additional private hot shower, all in the style of old Hawaii. This downstairs unit has its own private entrance, garden views, and covered parking.

Relax to the soothing sound of rolling surf and just minutes away is Hanalei town with restaurants, dancing and entertainment. You can walk by beach the entire final two miles to Ke’e, where the road ends and the famous Napali coast begins. Or you can walk the beach just 300 yards to the Hanalei Colony Resort, for the only (award winning) restaurant and coffee house on this part of the island. Or just take our beach chairs and walk the 120 steps to the beach out front!

About Katie Howland

About the owners Doug, Bev, Miranda, and Katie Howland: Doug and Bev were first drawn to Kauai in the early 80’s, after many visits they finally decided to buy this wonderful property in 2006. Doug, a 35-year designer/builder, has spent the last 10 years personalizing the house. Bev, a jack-of-all-trades, has owned a health food store, opened a charter elementary school, run a motel, and managed their various properties over the years. Their youngest daughter Katie lives in Portland with her older sister Miranda. After a career in the arts, she now manages the family’s properties. Doug and Beverly now migrate between their properties in Arizona, Utah, and Hawaii. They like to hike, horseback ride, ski, practice yoga, whitewater raft, dance, and travel in their free time.

They also have vacation rentals in the Escalante Canyons of Southern Utah and in the town of Sedona in Northern Arizona.

Why Katie Howland chose North Shore

Doug and Bev were always drawn to the North Shore, when making the decision to put down roots, they couldn’t resist the best part of the island. They fell in love with the unique beauty of their home that balances both accessibility and seclusion.

What makes this house unique

There are many amazing natural wonders right out the front door (see above). This home offers the lush mountainous jungle of Kauai out the back door and the soothing beach and ocean out the front door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Although we have been married 42 years; this was like a second honeymoon. The accommodations were amazing and so were the surplus of towels. The grandeur of this spot in Kauai, is stupendous. We so enjoyed meeting such gracious folks.

Incredible rental and location

  • 5 of 5

Arrived at the Teak Room to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We were so pleased with the property. It is clean, comfy, quaint, and perfectly furnished and equipped for cooking. It's decor reflects the North Shore and is set in a very quiet and private location. We prepared our "Happy Hour" and walked steps to enjoy on the beach at sunset time. One night we walked along the sand to dinner at a nearby resort. The location of this property was ideal for us as it is 2 miles from the end of the road, the gateway to the Napali Coast. This part of the island has the most beautiful beaches and the best hiking on the island. We will definitely return!

So relaxing

  • 5 of 5

After a delayed flight, I got to the Teak Room after midnight. It seemed quaint. When I woke up, I couldn't believe that I was that close to the beach. Walk out the door, down the driveway, cross a 2 lane street and my toes are in the sand. I loved the Hawaiian furniture, and the really nice sheets. It was so comfortable, that I always slept longer than I wanted. It seemed cozy and small until I wandered down the hall and found 2 more bedrooms. You could get at least 6 in there without a problem. I have never tried an outdoor shower before - now I wish I could get one at my house. My only regret is I couldn't stay longer on the island. It is so lush and green there that I really didn't realize how amazing the yard was until that last morning of my stay. Beyond the back fence is a steep hill or cliff that is covered in lush green. It almost looks like a green backdrop curtain. You can pick apple bananas from the trees in the back yard. They have beach chairs, snorkels, coolers, surf boards and boogie boards to borrow. I can't wait to go back!

Found this gem in at the last minute

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I lost our mothers this last year. We had decided we wanted to go on a healing trip, booked and paid for our rental. 5 days before we were leaving the owner canceled our reservation leaving us with nowhere to stay on Kauai. We were quite disappointed, but tried one more time to find some place else to stay. The Kauai God's were on our side and we found the Teak Room. The owner made things happen quick and easy for us, was very helpful, and we rested assured that we would have a place to start the healing process.

Both of us had never been to Hawai'i before, and chose Kaua'i for the peaceful nature of the island. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, the studio rental was spacious, with delightful traditional furniture. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make our meals. The bed was comfortable and large, with many pillows, which is something I love. There were plenty of towels, blankets, and sheets, umbrellas, and all the water toys and beach chairs you could possible need- even a kayak and surf board!

The landscaping and garden where phenomenal! The beach was down the driveway and across the street! My favorite was the outside shower- every day when we got home I took a shower before entering the Teak Room- truly a gift to shower outside in the jungle feel of paradise!

I loved the quiet and seclusion of the area. Needless to say, we were able to relax, and enjoy. I cannot say enough about our stay at the Teak Room. I highly recommend this wonderful rental. We are already planning our trip for next year and will stay here again.

Perfect Spot for a Haena Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

The Teak Room was the perfect choice for our stay in what we consider the most tropical, lush part of the Island. The room itself is spacious, cozy, clean and well appointed with everything you need. Tastefully decorated with traditional Hawaiian furniture, bedding and wall art. Wonderful jacuzzi tub and outdoor shower! There's a small but fully equipped kitchen to make a meal as well as a bbq. A private front porch in a tropical setting to have your morning coffee. Surrounded by lush vegetation and right across the street from a beautiful secluded beach! This is truly a gem!!

Great place to stay on the north shore

  • 5 of 5

The teak room was exactly what we were looking for. Very clean, super comfortable bed, big whirlpool tub, great location. The kitchen was small, but well organized and had everything need to make a great meal. The outdoor shower is a great option for coming home full of sand from the beach and not tracking it throughout the house.

We used the surf board and beach umbrellas a lot. It was great to have access to so much outdoor toys at the house.

The road was quiet and there was very little noise from the unit above. Highly recommended this property. We would stay here again.
