About Kay and Tom Holmes

We first visited St Stimons Island in 1971. There were three hotel/motels and lots of small beach cottages available for visitors. The beach was wide and uncrowded. The Coast Guard station was occupied by 'coasties' and there were no condos in sight. Our children enjoyed the safe surf and an occasional restaurant meal 'out'. As our children got older, they wanted a little more excitement so we visited other beaches in neighboring states.

We returned to St Simons in 1996, and boy had things changed - Many more restaurants and condos up and down the beach. We visited the island during every season to see how the weather was and what it would be like during 'off' seasons. We liked what we saw and finally found our little condo during a spring break visit in 1999. We saw many different properties but this place felt more like home - not a rental property. I spent the summers here and my husband came down when he could. We finally decided to leave the Atlanta area and move to the island full time. We lived in our little place for 8 months before we found a house that felt right. We still loved our little place though, and decided to keep it as our 'guest house'. We made it available to others in 2008. We hope you will consider it 'home' while you are on our island.

Why Kay and Tom Holmes chose St Simons Island

St Simons is a resort area but it is also a 'real' place with a large number of full time residents. This condo felt like 'home' as soon as we walked in the door. The tree filled property and a small 'front yard' were a bonus.

What makes this condo unique

Our proximity to the 'best beach' makes our unit ideal for morning walks or jogging on beach, through neighborhoods or to the village. The hard packed sand is ideal for bike rides and bocce ball. A favorite time is late afternoon for 'cocktails on the beach'.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay on St Simons Island. The area history is very interesting. The immaculate beach, live oaks and golden marshes were breathtaking.

Thank you for being so attentive to our needs at your condo. The brochures and dining info were very helpful. We felt relaxed and at home here. The near location to the village and easy access to the beach were great. We hope to return to St Simons in the the future. We are certaininly adding it to our list of possible retirement places.

A real home away from home .

This was our third season of staying at Saint Simons Island. We loved this rental. After previously renting open floor plan properties, we decided this traditionally lay out suited us best. Since we stayed for six weeks, the well equipped kitchen was very important to us. In addition, we enjoyed the beautiful view of the marsh from the kitchen table. The warm inviting family room overlooked a private patio. We took advantage of the many books and games that were generously supplied in the library present in the family room. This rental property is a quiet but very convenient location. It’s an easy walk to East Beach and a stroll along the Marsh is just steps away out the front door. The king size bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. There was an ample supply of bathroom towels and bed linens as well as extra pillows and blankets. This is the one rental we have experienced on Saint Simons Island that we would come back to. We love Saint Simons and the Oceanwood property added to our enjoyment.

Beautiful view, comfortable Home, and charming town

  • 5 of 5

Our first trip to St. Simon, Georgia could not have gone any better, largely due to Kay, the owner who went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable and supply us with resources to help our daughter's move be a successful one.

As we pulled up to the property, there were two designated and convenient parking places available for us to use. We were welcomed with birds singing, crickets chirping, and a stunning view of the golden colored marsh blowing in the breeze. It was a breath of fresh air.

As we entered the home, we were excited to see that everything we were expecting from the description online was accurate. The dining table was placed in the center of a very large window area. with the best view in the house. We spent our morning's at that table drinking coffee and enjoying the beautiful view. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a home cooked meals three times per day. There was plenty of space in the refrigerator and pantry.

We took a short walk to the beach every day. The house was supplied with a beach wagon, chairs, and an ice chest for us to use, which came in very handy. Other features that were a big deal to us were the laundry room and the back porch patio set with barbecue. It was the perfect place to relax after a day of apartment searching. Don't forget bug spray. Everywhere in Georgia has "no see 'ums." We bought Honest Bug Spray at Costco AND drank tea with lemon grass which is also a bug repellent. It worked very well.

As it was time to wind down for the evening, the living room had plenty of comfortable seating, a television, a table with chairs, and an entire library wall full of books. There was also A strong Wi-Fi Signal throughout the house and a downstairs restroom with a sink and toilet.

The 2 upstairs bedrooms had ceiling fans and comfortable beds. There was an upstairs full bathroom which included a toilet, sink, and shower/tub combo. There was an ample supply of fresh towels and washcloths for our use.

We would love to return to this same property for our next visit. Kay, The owner was so hospitable. She went out of her way to share information on furniture sales, restaurants, and any other resources to help us with our daughters move and know about the local places we should check out while visiting. What a wonderful experience!

My husband and I stayed 10 days and it was perfect! The beach house was very comfortable, with books and games and a cart to use to take our chairs and cooler to the beach. It was close to everything and a very short, easy walk to the beach, yet it was very quiet. We are hoping to be able to stay there again! Thanks Kay and Tom for sharing your great place! We want to go back now since we came home and it's snowing in Ohio.

fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed 10 days--and loved every minute of our time there. The location is, of course, perfect! The amenities of the house are complete and comfortable. We loved the marsh view, the quick trip to the beach, the easy access to both the Village and St. Simons. We particularly enjoyed time at the St. Simons Public Library, the Brunswick Public Library, Cannon's Pointe, Village Creek Landing and Epworth by the Sea.

The Restaurant Guide, provided by the property owner, and many brochures were informative and helpful.

We definitely plan to return.

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

Great location, close to the huge East Beach beach, not far from the Village. We have stayed at many places, but this is our favorite. Great selection of books! Wonderful view of the marsh out the breakfast room windows. Kay and Tom were very attentive. Can't wait to come back.
