|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Enjoy the marsh view at breakfast, walk to the best beach in less than 5 minutes, ride your bike to the village for lunch or shopping, and enjoy cocktails on the large, private patio in the afternoon. If reading is the way you like to relax, we have a wall of books in the living room.
OceanWood is composed of 6 tabby cottages, each with 2 units, nestled among large live oak trees. Our townhouse unit includes a fully equipped kitchen with separate pantry and laundry room.
Upstairs are 2 bedrooms with ceiling fans, a full bath and a built-in desk tucked into the dormer.
Outside the laundry room door is a hot/cold shower for easy clean up after time spent on the beach. There is no need for you to bring beach chairs since we have some available for your use.
We first visited St Stimons Island in 1971. There were three hotel/motels and lots of small beach cottages available for visitors. The beach was wide and uncrowded. The Coast Guard station was occupied by 'coasties' and there were no condos in sight. Our children enjoyed the safe surf and an occasional restaurant meal 'out'. As our children got older, they wanted a little more excitement so we visited other beaches in neighboring states.
We returned to St Simons in 1996, and boy had things changed - Many more restaurants and condos up and down the beach. We visited the island during every season to see how the weather was and what it would be like during 'off' seasons. We liked what we saw and finally found our little condo during a spring break visit in 1999. We saw many different properties but this place felt more like home - not a rental property. I spent the summers here and my husband came down when he could. We finally decided to leave the Atlanta area and move to the island full time. We lived in our little place for 8 months before we found a house that felt right. We still loved our little place though, and decided to keep it as our 'guest house'. We made it available to others in 2008. We hope you will consider it 'home' while you are on our island.
Kay and Tom Holmes purchased this condo in 1999
St Simons is a resort area but it is also a 'real' place with a large number of full time residents. This condo felt like 'home' as soon as we walked in the door. The tree filled property and a small 'front yard' were a bonus.
Our proximity to the 'best beach' makes our unit ideal for morning walks or jogging on beach, through neighborhoods or to the village. The hard packed sand is ideal for bike rides and bocce ball. A favorite time is late afternoon for 'cocktails on the beach'.
We really enjoyed our stay on St Simons Island. The area history is very interesting. The immaculate beach, live oaks and golden marshes were breathtaking.
Thank you for being so attentive to our needs at your condo. The brochures and dining info were very helpful. We felt relaxed and at home here. The near location to the village and easy access to the beach were great. We hope to return to St Simons in the the future. We are certaininly adding it to our list of possible retirement places.
My husband and I stayed 10 days and it was perfect! The beach house was very comfortable, with books and games and a cart to use to take our chairs and cooler to the beach. It was close to everything and a very short, easy walk to the beach, yet it was very quiet. We are hoping to be able to stay there again! Thanks Kay and Tom for sharing your great place! We want to go back now since we came home and it's snowing in Ohio.
My husband and I stayed 10 days--and loved every minute of our time there. The location is, of course, perfect! The amenities of the house are complete and comfortable. We loved the marsh view, the quick trip to the beach, the easy access to both the Village and St. Simons. We particularly enjoyed time at the St. Simons Public Library, the Brunswick Public Library, Cannon's Pointe, Village Creek Landing and Epworth by the Sea.
The Restaurant Guide, provided by the property owner, and many brochures were informative and helpful.
We definitely plan to return.

Great location, close to the huge East Beach beach, not far from the Village. We have stayed at many places, but this is our favorite. Great selection of books! Wonderful view of the marsh out the breakfast room windows. Kay and Tom were very attentive. Can't wait to come back.
Kay was lovely to work with. She answered all of our questions , provided information about upcoming events , and even brought us a Tea Kettle when we asked for one.
The condo is in a great location close to the beach and the Village ( about 1.5 miles ) walking and an easy bike ride. The pictures provided were a good representation of the property. As has been mentioned there are great books and many games on hand and a nice game table in the living room. We enjoyed daily walks on the beach even though it was chilly and when the weather warmed up we went to the King and Prince ( a short walk or ride from the condo) to sit on the patio for lunch or drinks and appetizers while watching the sunset over the beach. One day we saw a double rainbow from there. We also enjoyed all of the birds that can be viewed from the kitchen window out over the marsh.
We did have a few issues that are worth sharing for those with allergies or scent sensitivities. There was a musty smell even when the heat was on , especially in the closets and the cupboards. Air freshener has been used to cover the smell and there is carpeting throughout the condo. If you have allergies or are sensitive to fragrances this might be challenging, it was for us. If you have children with asthma it probably isn't a great choice. The living room also felt quite dark even on sunny days. The shade is probably a bonus in the summer to keep the heat down but in the winter when it was too cold to be on the patio we found ourselves longing for some sunlight. There is a road between the front of the condo ( kitchen window ) and the marshes.
It is hard to share the challenges but if someone had shared about the smell and use of scents it would have been helpful to us in making our choice for a snow bird escape.
This condo truly makes you feel like you at home. It was wonderful!!! It is clean, warm, and inviting. Our son and his wife and their 3 children joined us for 5 days, and it didn't feel crowded at all. There were even toys for our grands to play with, and a special secret closet for them to play in. The location is perfect! It is near the beach, coast guard station, and lighthouse and village. It is close enough to walk to the beach with even very young children. Kay was a delight to work with. The only bad thing about it was leaving. We would be totally comfortable living in this condo; it is great! The view of the marsh is lovely. I can't think of anything that was wrong with it, and we stayed a month. We loved it, and I know you would too!
This was our 2nd time at SSI and also our second time staying here. Beautiful and clean! Owners are just great and always makes us feel so welcome. Close to the Village, we drove our bike every evening there. 3 minute walk to the beach. We also love the fact that we do not need to bring beach chairs, cart, etc...
All the board games they have are great for our two boys.
Has a great quite court yard to sit and relax or have lunch.
Our unit is located one mile from the village and one mile from the nearest grocery store.
