Thank you Paul for your kind comments. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. Thanks so much for leaving the cottage in such good order. Until we meet again,. George
We had an amazing stay at Salt Water Cottage. The home is beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and well built. George was great about checking in and communicating. 10/10. We can’t wait to come back.
My friend and I rented this beautiful quaint property for a quiet weekend away and it checked all the boxes. The owner, George, was so nice to deal with, and clearly has so much pride in this family home, which has so many lovely details throughout. The view is spectacular. Just a short drive to town, restaurants and boutiques, the botanical garden. I truly hope to come back some day.
This property was terrific! Beautiful views of Penobscot Bay. Equipped with everything you could need. Charming and well appointed interior. Owner available and very helpful. Could not have asked for a better place!
Words cannot express how beautiful the home was and how great full my family and I are for George opening his home to us. It was amazing and I would highly recommend to anyone.

Dear Kary,

Best,
George
The house is unique and charming on a small promontory of land overlooking the ocean and the scattered islands that invest it. Mr. Hervochon, the host, could not have been more accommodating and helpful--such a kind and gentle and generous man. His genius built the house and his spirit imbues it.
The sunroom was a great place to spend time together watching sunsets, sharing* stories and having cocktails. Well equipped kitchen made preparing meals a breeze. Great location, warm welcome, and beautiful weather was the icing on the cake. Thanks to George for sharing his home with us.

Thank you for reviewing Morning Star Cottage. I'm glad you all enjoyed your stay. Best George
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this magical home on quaint Sawyers Island. We felt as if we went back in time with kids running around the lawn, kayaking and spotting harbor seals and stunning sunsets. The sunroom and enclosed porch were so peaceful. George was wonderful to work with and all of the neighbors were exceptionally friendly. We look forward to visiting again next year.
We only stayed at this house for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary but wished we could have stayed for much longer! The property has a beautiful water view and a dock to enjoy the peace and quiet - we even had a group of seals splashing next to the dock! The house is immaculate and had everything we needed to feel at home. George was a gracious host and very easy to work with. We enjoyed the restaurants downtown and the local brewery was a nice treat at the end of the day. This is definitely a property that we will look forward to renting again!

Happy Anniversary!

We stayed here for a week after Christmas with my mom, my sister & her husband & two children ages 4 &7 and we could not have been happier with our rental! Gorgeous home, it exceeded our expectations, a quiet spot with sunsets you’ll never forget! The owner was so kind, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. The home was clean, inviting, warm, and we throughly enjoyed our stay. I might add we were here in December in a pandemic and had plenty to do to keep us all busy! I cannot imagine what a great time you’d have in the summer! Stay here, you’ll not regret it!

Hi Heather,
We have received very good reviews in the past but yours was the best. Thanks for taking the time. Best George
What a lovely spot! The house is exactly as described and pictured. It is light and sunny. There are views from the sunroom, third floor deck, picnic table, chairs, and dock. We never ate out because it was too nice to sit and eat at the house with a view!
George is friendly, communicative, and responsive to any questions.
The spot is quiet and surprisingly private despite the open yards of all the neighbors.
It is close to the Botanical Garden and several short walks in the woods and along the shore.
Kayaking or paddle boarding to visit the seals is incredible. One tip, biking in the area is not easy—so might leave the bikes home next time.
It was a perfect long weekend trip.
We will definitely stay here again!
Though the photos are terrific, they can't illustrate the feeling of this gorgeous setting. You get more than you see. The host is accessible and friendly. The home is well appointed.
Had a relaxing and peaceful stay over the holidays. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the house. Great location close to Boothbay Harbor and all the holiday lights.
This house was perfect for 2 couples. We enjoyed the location of the home to everything we wanted to see! The views from the home were beautiful!
George was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again on our next trip to Boothbay!
The house is great, spacious, open concept downstairs, nice bedrooms, and nice 3rd floor family room and balcony. And outfitted with all that we needed. Yard and dock is where we spent much of our time, meals at the picnic table with a beautiful view. Kayaking conditions were fantastic, calm waters, seals and other wildlife, and interesting islands and shore to explore. And the area has a lot to offer, we enjoyed the botanical garden (great for kids), Boothbay harbor, bike rides, hikes, and loved Boothbay Craft Brewery. Can't wait to go back!
I was struck by the beautiful setting of this property. The house sits proudly on the hill overlooking the bay. The street is quiet and there is a lot of privacy between houses. The house was clean and neat and George the owner was wonderful.
My family enjoyed an absolutely perfect week at this incredible spot. George was a wonderful host - easy to coordinate with and incredibly welcoming. The house was spacious and wonderfully appointed with just about the best views possible. We spent so much time sitting on the dock, watching the birds and the seals in the water and made full use of the kayaks and the grill. Even though we only left two days ago, we've already been planning for our next visit. I would highly recommend renting from George for your post-COVID family reunion.

About the host
Hosted by George Hervochon or Anni Pat McKenney
George left his job on Wall Street in 1975 after picking up a newspaper left on an empty seat of his commuter train. He read about "owner-built homes training" in midcoast Maine and decided to build our home and move there with our two young daughters. We purchased 130 acres and built our home in Newcastle, which is located about 20 miles from Boothbay Harbor. Just a few months after moving into our home, a nice young couple knocked on the door and asked George if he would build them a house just like ours. He agreed and continued to build homes, under the company name of "Hervochon Construction" for the next 39 years! We have remained in the Damariscotta/Newcastle area all this time, although we moved into different houses built by my husband. George has designed and built a variety of styles to suit many clients over the years. The project he is most proud of is St. Patrick's new church in Newcastle, of which he is a member. We give God the glory for that blessing! I am a retired elementary school teacher, and George has turned the building business over to our daughter AnniPat, and our son-in-law. We stay busy with our two summer rentals, and our three grandchildren. ~Kathy Hervochon
