Honeymoon stay was great!
We had a great time on our honeymoon! Everything we needed was located in the property and we also were located across the street from the main area of the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Had a great time on Fripp. Robert was easy to communicate with, and check-in/out is so very simple. The included golf cart is fantastic, saves you the hassle of having to rent one separately (A golf cart on Fripp is a must). The only complaint we would mention is the cleanliness. Huge amounts of dust on top of everything, the tv's, door trim, anything that is above eye-level. Even the walls have dust stuck to them. So the cleaning crew needs to do a better job, but other than that, we had a good time.
Beautifully decorated condo, clean, and walking distance to the beach! Great stay!!
Updated condo but needs roach extermination and maintenance
We love Fripp and this was our second visit to the island but first to Beach Club Villas. We tried to make the best of it but I will not be back to Beach Club Villas. Upon arrival, we noticed stairway entrance to condo in need of cleaning, painting and pest extermination. We were pleased 190 condo unit was updated with granite countertops, tile shower, beautiful marsh view and nice appliances as shown in pictures. However, we immediately noticed the condo was in need of a thorough cleaning with piles of lint and hair under beds and in corners. I wasn’t overly bothered by that but became more concerned when I noticed a mousetrap on floor in kitchen. I have small children and also found a pill of some sort in the silverware tray. I could have tolerated all this but, most importantly, the unit needs some serious roach extermination. We saw roaches (both huge “palmetto bugs” and many small and medium sized ones) our first day and reported them to owner. He was immediately responsive and sent someone to come and spray next day. I was concerned about indoor spraying due to small children but I reasoned it was better than roaches. After that, we didn’t see any more roaches for 3 more days following the spraying. However, by the time we left, roaches were back and our last night there my husband woke up with one crawling on him in bed!! We kept our open food, including chips, in refrigerator whole visit and used paper products mostly or clean dishes directly from dishwasher. We tried to make most of visit to beautiful Fripp Island but will not be back to any of the Beach Club Villas or rent golf carts from this company. The golf cart we rented had low gas upon arrival and a lot of active mold growth on seats so we sat on towels when riding it. I am not a clean fanatic but thought this was unacceptable to rent a place with many roaches and golf cart with active mold growth all over seats. We have had to be very careful since coming home to take steps to prevent inadvertently bringing any roaches home in bags.
We are sorry to hear about your complaint about the Palmetto bugs in the area you aren't accustomed to. I had mentioned to you when you called that if I were to call the regime manager who irresponsible for routine pest control that would make them active in the area especially since they spray outside area as well and you said to send them. This is disorientating them and even the ones outside which makes them move around before dying and even making them come inside where they rally don't want to be. These palmetto bugs live them the tress in the area and generally get inside by riding in on you or can fly in if doors left open, they aren't looking for food or crumbs on the floor. They surely don't want to go home with you.
As for golf cart that isn't mold on seats that is a discoloration they get on some of the seats from sitting outside all year we bleach them down before Summer rentals begin but it doesn't remove that spots you are referring to due to its discoloring in the vinyl not mold sometime they will get dust sitting there with lawn companies mowing lawns if not used a few days or no rain to rinse off'
Sorry to hear you want be staying the less expensive budget conscience villas anymore but we have 38 bigger homes as well on Fripp and every home has palmetto bugs around them including the one I live as they are native to the island. So we will make a point to make sure not to rent any of our listings to you in the future since you aren't going to be happy with the more expensive rentals either.
I'll add your name to that list so we want have future issues or other companies will know as well
I was told not to unpack, just to leave.
The property was adequate. I had never stayed in a villa and just expected more space. The screened-in porch was smaller than I am accustomed to, and we were greeted by a huge palmetto bug in the kitchen. In fairness to the owner, his contact with me was completely by text and occurred the weeks before after Florence had hit, so his mood may have been affected. From my original first few contacts, I felt (though maybe not intentional) a sharpness in his textual messages. I did ask a few questions about roads, especially directly before and after Florence. The owner answered more than once to me with “as I said.” Ok. After seeing the palmetto bug, which to those of us who have never seen one, looks exactly like a huge (1-1/2 inches) black roach, I texted the owner and called it a roach, instead of a palmetto bug. He was obviously highly offended and said it was not a roach, he didn’t have a roach problem, it was a palmetto bug, and asked if I wanted to leave. I had just walked in. I didn’t know what I was facing. Anyway, I could add more details, but I’ll spare you. I will copy and paste his final response to me at the end of this review, which clearly demonstrated his opinion of me as a renter who had spent 7 hours on the road and entered his property at about 8:30 and had the nerve to call a palmetto bug a roach. By the way, I had looked up palmetto bugs after his slap at my terminology. Those bugs are, indeed, common to the area, but they are also, indeed, a type of roach. Here are the lessons I learned from my encounter with this owner:
1. With some people, texting is probably not the best way to communicate.
2. Some owners prefer not to be asked many questions by tenants.
3. Palmetto bugs should never be called roaches by outsiders. Some people are highly offended.
4. If you’re planning to go to Fripp Island, it is beautiful and is a wildlife refuge. When making a reservation, purchase the amenities card. We were not allowed to go to the restaurant and pay for our food because we didn’t have that card. Arrive early or bring your food. The grocery store on the island closes.
5. I am very much put off by rudeness from someone I’ve paid.
6. Our motel stay in Beaufort, SC, was fantastic!
His text :
Ok go ahead and before you unpack just leave. That’s my personal villa and don’t want to deal with this for three days.
He definitely has rights as an owner, but I definitely have the right to write a review revealing his rudeness to me.
Horrible. Dirty,Dusty, mold, bugs and mice!
From the get go it was not good. We were desperate to get in the place to put up cold items and use the restroom, only to see a note on the door stating if we had any issues with housekeeping it had to be addressed before we put anything in the condo or it was on us. When I went to dry my hands on the towel in the hall bathroom, the rack fell out of the wall. There was so much mold in the hall bathroom, when I took a shower I was standing in a mold bath because the drain wouldn’t drain well and it was coming out of the jacuzzi jets and filter area, and I’m allergic to mold and dust. Every lamp shade, under bed and on the walls where vents were, were covered in dust. Air intake vent was also, and the air froze up a just 72 degrees the second night. The sheets on the bed were covered with hair and some powdery looking globs. There weren’t extras so we had to wash them and I still had to go over them with a lint roller to get all the hair off. I spent at least half our first day just cleaning.
We saw roaches at night and on the second night, the unopened snacks, crackers, bread and fresh produce tha we had purchased was all nibbled through the plastic and sampled by some rodent. Teeth marks were very obvious as was the dropping’s. It was a disaster!
We love Fripp Island and have been at leas 6 times. It has always been great. We definitely know where we will not be staying ever again!
It was condemnable to be sure, most certainly should not be rented out to people. Very disappointed there isn’t a better way to keep up with the quality of rentals and property you allow to be listed.
