About the property

large living room, 2 Bedrooms qn sz bds , 2 Lg Bathrooms, Sleeps 4-5

The cabin is only a 15 minute walk to downtown Estes Park shopping and restaurants. It is 1255 square feet and is bordered on the north by a forest that was recently part of Rocky Mountain National Park, and was deeded to the Historic MacGregor Ranch conservation easement in a land exchange that enabled the Park to add hiking trails. These trails are 1 mile north of the cabin on MacGregor Ave/ Devil's Gulch. The MacGregor herd of elk live near the Ranch which is 1/2 mile from the cabin.

The Fall River and Beaver Meadows entrances to RMNP are approximately 2 miles from the cabin.

Since Rocky Mountain National Park built the cabin as a one room cabin, the cabin has quite a large living room with a fireplace. From the backyard sandstone patio, you have a magnificent view of Lumpy Ridge; Said to have the best granite rock climbing in the state (Rocky Mountain News, Jan 20, 2009). You can see elk, deer, abert squirrels, hummingbirds, wild turkey, numerous varieties of birds, chip monks, foxes, coyotes,a bobcat, and other wildlife very close by, sometimes 2 feet from the kitchen table when the lights are off in the kitchen during the day.

Enjoy a morning cup of coffee on the front deck beneath the pines while looking at the views of Lumpy Ridge and Twin Owls. At night sit on the front deck while looking at the stars.

Although close to downtown, the cabin is in a secluded, quiet setting at the end of a street. Since you can walk or drive less than a mile into town, you will have both easy access to Estes Park's downtown shopping and restaurants and the enjoyment of nature's tranquility and beauty. You also have quick and easy access to Safeway, the town's large grocery store, fast food, and the visitors center (5 minutes away).

Family reunion? Also rent the 3 bedroom next door.

About Sherry and Steve

We enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, nature and wildlife photography, wildflowers, and nature in general.

Guest constantly comment to me how comfortable they are in our cabin and thank us for sharing this wonder place and can tell the cabin is well kept

Sherry and Steve purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Sherry and Steve chose Estes Park

Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the Crown Jewels of the National Park System! Estes Park is such a charming town. We fell in love with the serenity of the location being next to the forest, the large cabin with the large windows with the ability to watch wildlife from the windows, and being so close to all entrances to RMNP.

What makes this cabin unique

Being within close walking/driving distance of downtown Estes (less than a mile) and close to Rocky Mountain National Park Trails. Living in a peaceful neighborhood at the end of a dead end street that is bordered on the north by a forest, MacGregor Ranch conservation easement and seeing lots of wildlife. But still being 5 minutes from Safeway.

It feels away from it all since cabin backs to the forest and you hear no traffic sounds but Safeway and downtown are only 5 minutes away. RMNP is only 10-15 minutes, depending on which of 3 directions you take.

Enjoying this historic cabin in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park

My arrival to Estes Park was nothing less than breath taking. I and my friends arrived at our Rocky Mountain Cabin, pleased to find that that it was close enough to walk to town, but still nicely tucked away and peaceful. The cabin was built by the Rocky Mountain National Park and is kept immaculate. It was well appointed, spacious with very comfortable furnishings, beautiful photography and a fully stocked kitchen. After the cubs got settled we found that the owners had set us up with coffee for the morning so we did not need to rush to the store. The cabin has a flat screen TV with dish network, many books to read, DVD’s and a nice stereo system for the all to listen to music if we wished. We also discovered that the owner is a photographer, and left us a wonderful 8 x 10 photograph that she had taken of the snow capped mountains. What a nice gift! I was able to bring a piece of Estes Park home with me. The night skies were brightened with stars like we had never seen! Every evening we sat out on one of the three patio areas to star gaze and soak up the cool crisp mountain air. The back patio is equipped with a very nice grill to cook your meals. The mornings were just as glorious as the nights. After making some coffee we walked from the cabin to do some downtown shopping and over to the Historical Stanley Hotel for a tour. Estes Park has several trails to hike or bike, as well as a number of lakes where you can feed the ducks or rent paddle boats to get out on the water. Keep an eye out for the Elk, they are everywhere. The VRBO Bear

Beautiful cabin and stay

  • 5 of 5

The cabin has the feel of being out in the country, but is literally 3 minutes from downtown Estes and Safeway. Lumpy Ridge trailhead is 4 minutes away with a beautiful strenuous hike to Gem Lake. RMNP is 10 minutes away from either Estes area entrances. The cabin is stocked with all essentials, coffee, condiments, exceptionally clean and spacious. Would stay again.

Great Cozy Cabin for family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great time in this cabin. It was very roomy with 2 bedrooms and a fold out couch in living room / 2 bathrooms. The kitchen was FULLY stocked with spices / pots & pans / measuring cups, we found everyhing we could possibly need. I enjoyed looking for wildlife in the mornings with my son, we saw a coyote out front on our second morning there. So many fun things to do around Estes, we spent a day walking in downtown Estes along the river walk, it is such a charming downtown scene. We went after Christmas so I enjoyed all the lights that were strung up throughout town. We got a week pass to Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked to Bear Lake which was frozen so we walked out on the lake which my kids enjoyed. Another day we hiked to Alberto Falls and the waterfall was frozen yet you could see running water beneath it - it was magnificent. We borrowed the 2 sleds that Sherry left in the master bedroom closet and then rented 2 more and spent 2 days sledding at Hidden Valley in Rocky Mountain Nationa Park. We did not get tired of racing each other and seeing how far we could go each time, it was a magical place. Then we went to Sweet Basilica for lunch - Sherry had recommended that place and we loved it too. For the price this cabin gives you much more space than other cabins. It is very close to town, we would have walked except my daughter said it was too cold:) so we drove 3 - 4 min to town. The cabin was very very clean. My husband notices that sort of thing more than I do and he commented several times he had never stayed in a place that was so clean. It is an older cabin, but very cozy on the inside, I loved the big family room that we could just lounge in at the end of the day around the fire. I will definitely stay here again. Locals told us to come back and see what it is like in summer months. I don't see how it could be any more impressive, but they claim that it is.

Our Estes Park Home

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I have stayed at Sherry's Peaceful Historic Cabin several times. The last couple of years ('16 and '17), we've brought along our 91-year-old mother. The three of us LOVE this cabin. We love the fact that it is in a quiet area of town, that it has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a great kitchen and laundry area, a large and roomy living room, and a comfy patio. We had many lovely warm days during our most recent visit and on the days my sister and I hiked, Mom was able to sit out on the patio and read for a few hours at a time. One of the BEST features of this cabin, though, is its location. The Safeway is a five-minute drive away without having to go through downtown, while Big Horn Drive (a block south of Granite Lane where the cabin is located) can take you all the way to the US 34 Bypass. From here, you can turn west to enter RMNP at the Fall River Station entrance. If you choose to stay on Big Horn Dr., simply cross US 34 Bypass heading south, wind through a residential area in the northwest section of Estes Park, and eventually it'll connect with the US34/US36 intersection on the WEST SIDE of Estes, over by the movie theater. VERY convenient. VERY fast. And the best part is that you'll avoid the congestion of downtown Estes during the crush of tourist season. Wildlife was VERY active this year. Almost every day, deer and elk wandered around the neighborhood or in the open fields that border the property on one side. It really is just a fantastic place to stay.

Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! The cabin has a really great layout with a spacious family room area, kitchen with eating area (and west view of a mountain), lots of counter-space, and tech desk area. It really exceeds what the pictures show. Everything was quite clean and well stocked.

This property is on the north side of Estes Park and very close to town. It was very easy to get to the supermarket or the downtown area. It also gives you easy access to the north park entrance which we found to have less traffic and a more enjoyable way into the National Park. Rocky Mountain National park is sensational!

It was a wonderful vacation and we would definitely stay here again!
