About this property
Beautiful 19th century manor house with private pool & garden in rural setting
The main house, a typical 19th century Perigordian Maison de Maître built in the local golden sandstone, has been restored and retains many of its characteristic features. With 6 en-suite bedrooms, a private garden and a private 12x5 swimming pool, it is a perfect getaway for families and/or friends.
Besides a holiday accommodation, it is also a lovely venue for special occasions such as birthdays, family celebrations, weddings etc.
We want to make your stay as pleasant as possible and think along with you, so if you have special requests, please let us know.
________
The house has a large living room with tv (english and french channels) and an extensive library. A large dining/kitchen comfortably seats 12 people at the hand made oak dining table. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with double oven, gas hob, 2 fridges, dishwasher, microwave, 2 sinks, coffee maker, kettle and toaster.
There is a separate ground floor toilet.
A laundry room, accessed from the garden, with a washing machine and tumble dryer is availble for you, as well as a second fridge.
Linen and towels are provided. Please do bring your own swimming towels, as the towels we provide are for indoor use.
Outside a large purpose built stone patio with table, chairs and three parasols is the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy summertime meals. Use the BBQ to complete the experience.
The garden area in front of the house is mainly grass with gravel pathway. Secured for small children with gates that close and/or lock. Another wooden gate, which is secured with a lock, at the far end of the garden is the way into the private pool area which is a large space and is surrounded by hedges and fence. There are sunbeds available to relax, the pool is 12x5m and has steps which makes it especially child friendly. A lovely walnut tree provides shade from the heat of the sun and the grassy areas are great for kicking a ball or just having fun.
The car parking area is large enough for several vehicles.
Our property sits on 3/4 acre which means there are plenty of areas to explore and play. The orchard in front of the Main House has walnut, apple, pear and peach trees. There is a ping pong table under the largest of our walnut trees for everyone to use.
Surrounding our property are tracks for walking and cycling. The river is just 250m away and is a lovely place swim and play. Canoeing is a very well known activity in the area; you can take the canoe from Saint Leon sur Vezere, just 10 minutes away.
We have 4 smaller gites on the same site as the Main House, these are completely separate with their own facilities and their own pool. All of our accommodation has been furnished to a high level of comfort making each of them a 'home away from home'.
The largest of our gites is The Tobacco Barn, sleeps from 2 to 6 guests in 3 en-suite bedrooms and has direct access to the pool area from the living room. The 3 other spacious gites - the Hay Barn, The Walnut Store and The Roque Terrace - are each designed for 2 people. The Walnut Store and Roque Terrace are both suitable for people with impaired mobility or wheelchair users.
Le Moustier is the village closest to us, just a 5 minute walk. Situated between Montignac, famous for the Lacaux cave paintings, and Les Eyzies with its many prehistoric sites, the small village of Le Moustier derives its name from the prehistoric Mousterian era due to an important skull find there. It has a restaurant, bar and a boulangerie and the house is only 5 minutes walk from the village. Les Granges is situated on the side of the river Vezere opposite La Roque St Christophe, a limestone cliff face with caves carved into the rock which were inhabited for over 55,000 years from the prehistoric era to the middle ages when over 5,000 people lived on the site. These kilometre long caves are illuminated at night and make a spectacular view from the property.
The surrounding area: Sarlat is definately a beautiful medieval city to visit, and has a market on saturday and wednesday mornings.
But many local towns offer traditional street markets. Montignac in particular hosts an excellent market twice a week, and nearby Rouffignac has a splendid Sunday morning market, where local farmers exhibit freshly picked vegetables, plump ducklings, fresh foie gras and enormous selections of local cheeses. The Perigord is a gourmets paradise and there are many excellent local restaurants offering the best of the areas cuisine.
The Dordogne Region: The land of a thousand chateaux, the Dordogne or Perigord as it was known, is split into four regions named for their natural features. Noir(black) region of dense forests, Vert(green) spruce trees, Pourpre(purple) vines and Blanc(white) natural limestone. Due to its natural beauty and abundance of medieval towns, chateaux and villages, the Perigord Noir is the jewel in the crown of the Dordogne. The Vezere Valley, with its predominance of prehistoric sites, makes this region one of the most visited. The medieval towns of Sarlat, Les Eyzies and the vibrant city of Perigueux and many traditional villages, each with a character of their own, including Domme, Rocamador, Beynac, Le Roque Gageac, Montignac with the famous Lascaux caves, St Leon sur Vezere, makes the region a real sight seeing experience.
Besides a holiday accommodation, it is also a lovely venue for special occasions such as birthdays, family celebrations, weddings etc.

About the host
Hosted by Jens and Annet

We are Jens and Annet, and we moved from the Netherlands to Le Manoir des Granges, a picturesque property of which we became the proud owners on April 23rd 2021. We are in our early thirties and live full-time on the property. We enjoy climbing and yoga, and the history of the surrounding area. We're looking forward to meeting you and sharing this beautiful place with you.
Why they chose this property
We already knew Le Manoirquite well as yearly returning guests to the Dordogne region, and from the moment we set foot on the property, we fell in love with it.
Now it is up to us to continue this beautiful business, and give our guests a place to stay that feels like home, in the heart of the Perigord-Noir.

What makes this property unique
The location is amazing with its view on La Roque Saint Christophe, and between the villages of Montignac, Les Eyzies and Sarlat. Our own village of Le Moustier has a lovely restaurant and a boulangerie, on a walking distance. It is only a 10 minutes drive to Montignac for the supermarket and market, and all the main touristic attractions are within a 30-40 minute drive.
Our property offers flexible accommodation for a variety of group sizes, from 2 to 12 people. All of our bedrooms are en-suite.
We live on site so we are happy to help you when you need it, or give you advise on the region!
