Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-10)

This is a true Mountain Oasis in the desert at the Joshua Tree National Park entrance:

One property, one bedroom house, extra sleeping in living room, and private-entrance guest quarters, plus a detached art studio for recreation and extra sleeping.

The house is a colorfully-painted ranch style, with mostly glass walls facing the mountain views in the back yard, with private entrance guest quarters and bath, plus a detached art studio for work, play, and/or extra sleeping.

Get away from the world, no TV. However, we now have WIFI. All that is avail in town for emergencies, but this is a real desert-mountain retreat.

The house is one big room with living room, fire place, kitchen, and sunken area for enjoying the Mountain View with a separate and private master bedroom off the living room area.

And the other side of the open space holds the dining area with a hallway off to the bath. Through the colonnade and down the path are the guest quarters, a single large bedroom with Mountain View and bath.

There is an art studio next to it, with a convertible bed and day bed for extra sleeping.

Enjoy the orchard of 8 fruit trees, garden, large pine trees, and many other trees, cactus, and other desert plants.

There is lots of shade for lazy orchard naps in the hammock after lunch prepared in the outdoor kitchen.

You can spend early evenings in the hot tubs, among the rocks, after hiking, rock climbing, or just driving through the gorgeous Joshua Tree Park. Or after horse back riding available down the road.

There are restaurants, art galleries, live theatre, music festivals, and we are only 25 minutes from Desert Hot Springs and its famous hot tubs and pool where you can spend the day for one small price.

Further we are 35 minutes from Palm Springs its airport, spas, golf courses, arts and culture.

The Salton Sea is an 1 1/2 hrs away with fishing, swimming, and boating. LA and the Ocean communities are 2 1/2 hrs away for a great day trip.

The Wild Flower season is in the spring, and everything is in bloom, and people come from all over the country to see it. The fall and winter the area is a mecca for the rock climbers and mild weather fans. So, spend a week or a weekend in this beautiful desert Oasis.

What makes this house unique

This is a unique location nestled into the border with the park. It is private and beautiful. You have the Park to explore, or you can just sit in the yard or amongst the numerous boulders on the property and be part of it. Or you can sit in the oasis of gardens, pine trees, and fruit orchard. It is a very special place.

Magical abode

  • 5 of 5

Come here if you want a peaceful oasis with spectacular views and solitude. Easy access to J Tree. An incredible place for watching the sun set over the terrain, having a fire in the evening and making meals in the outdoor kitchen (there's an inside one too). We'd love to come back here again.

Heavenly

  • 5 of 5

This property was better than I was even expecting. The house and guesthouse are completely charming, cozy, beautiful, and bohemian, and the property is stunning. I wanted to get away from it all, experience the magic of Joshua Tree, and sit in a hot tub and look at the stars. I got all that and more. We had a small group out to celebrate my birthday, and we all started joking about how regularly (about twice an hour) one of us said, "I love this place!" We will definitely be back. Thank you for creating such a special place and making it so comfortable. This was a weekend I will cherish.

Great house with a desert view.

  • 5 of 5

A wonderfully funky house with multiple buildings, plus a grand view of the valley I didn't even know was a part of the deal. Easy to find and everything about the place was very easy to deal with. Already plotting a return visit...

Fantastic, Remote Location

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing location. Didn't use anything other than the main house, but there would have been lots of space if we'd had more people with us. Don't come here expecting to sit and watch TV all day, because that's not going to happen. But if you like the outdoors, this is the place for you. Even though it's fairly close to town, this place is really like being in the middle of nowhere. Highly recommended.

Great getaway for a group

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of space to spread out and chill. We took a big group of friends there for a long weekend and loved the proximity to Joshua Tree National Park and town businesses along with a special desert-edge feeling of solitude. Does not feel too close to or overlooked by other houses nearby, which is nice.

I would note that there is not much counterspace indoors for cooking a big meal, but the outdoor kitchen makes up for that with plenty of surface and sitting area to hang pre-meal.

As other visitors have noted, the hot tub was super super hot. You have to let it cool down before most people can enjoy.

We had some trouble keeping the woodstove lit when there in February but LOVED having a fireplace in the main living area and kept it going all weekend. House stayed warm just with that. There was plenty of wood stocked up outdoors which turned out to be slightly damp - I'd recommend bringing a little bit of new dry wood if there has been any rain recently.

I wasn't sure beforehand if we'd use the art studio or the garage sleeping areas, but everyone loved them! It was a really cozy atmosphere with lots of cool books and art.

Very peaceful spot. This is a great house with a lot of character. Definitely hope to return.

Doggie Trails is such a beautiful place! The land and sunsets are just beyond beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our seventh time staying at Doggie Trails. We absolutely love it. It's getting more beautiful every time we come-house is getting cleaner and more welcoming. The sunsets are unreal, the hot tub is hot! It's a sanctuary for our close friends to relax and unwind and go climb in the park near by! Thank you Larry for another welcoming stay!
