About this property

A Dream by the Stream-Log Cabin on 10 private acres, pond, stream, dog friendly!

A Dream by the Stream is a very private and rustic 2 Br/2Ba log cabin overlooking a bold stream on 10 beautiful and remote acres with walking trails, a pond with dock, campfire pit, and amazing garden stonescapes. Our 750 sq ft. Cabin offers WiFi, streaming TV, central AC and heat, fully stocked kitchen, coffee provided, towels, comfortable bed and quality linens. We are 1/2 mile from the North Fork of New River. It's a perfect spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the mountains. Polite dogs welcome (limit 2) It's a perfect spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the mountains!
Please note: this is in Ashe County and while we are not on top of a mountain, the elevation is 3100 feet so we do get more wintery weather than a place like Asheville (which is only 2000 feet). The main roads are well maintained in the winter, and our gravel road is not very steep but you do need AWD/4WD in the winter in case of unpredictable snowy/icy conditions.
Note: the cabin is 20 minutes from Elk Knob State Park, 35 minutes from downtown Boone, 30 minutes from West Jefferson, 25 minutes from Mountain City, TN.
Also note: cell phone service is spotty in the mountains. Verizon covers most of Ashe County, but not all national carriers do. It's a good idea to set up wifi-enabled calling on your cell phone.

Excellent Vacation getaway
We enjoyed our vacation at this beautiful property, the scenery was breath taking. Melinda was a great host, it was easy to contact her for any reason. We enjoyed other sites nearby that were less than an hour away in any direction from the property. We will definitely be back.

Vacation in the Smokies
This cabin is located in the mountains, close to 3,000 ft above sea level, the property is large, so when having breakfast on the front deck, the only sound to be heard is a babbling brook; it is divinely serene! The interior is beautiful, all wood, and equipt with everything you might need, should you decide to stay inside, we typically spent time on the deck, or, around the firepit (it was August). Boomer, our Golden Retriever had acres to explore, and in a week maybe covered about 50% of the grounds. In a world riddled with electronic noise, the cabin really lets one switch off. Don't panic though, there is Wifi should withdrawal symptoms get the better of you. The host communicated clearly, promptly and accurately, which was great, we knew where to go, how to get there, and how to gain access, before we started our journey from home. Instructions were easy, check out was easy, and the communication channel was kept open should we need anything else. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either the cabin, or, the host!

Perfection
We wanted a short getaway for Father’s Day weekend and visiting our son at Appalachian State during his summer internship. We could not have wished for a better property! Absolute perfection. Melinda was very thoughtful with communication. We will definitely be booking this property again in the future.

Fantastic getaway
A Dream by the Stream surpasses it's name. We absolutely love this cabin and grounds! We felt at home the moment we arrived. The cabin is decorated so tastefully and immaculate. The kitchen was equipped with everything needed just like at home. We couldn't have been more pleased with our host. She was fantastic. This was our first experience with Vrbo. Will be planning many more adventures in the future.

Muddy ride
We reserved to ride the VA Creeper trail. It rained most of the weekend, but the cabin was still perfect. All necessities available and then some. Beautiful property. We would like to come again when it's warmer - maybe july?

A perfect week!
This cabin had everything we needed for the week and was clean and comfortable. We liked to read on the porch or by the stream on the "fairy trail". Our dogs had fun exploring the trails with us or just going for a quick stroll around the pond. We explored the towns of Lansing, West Jefferson and Boone. We hiked at Elk Knob (beautiful) and played a round of disc golf at Ashe County Park in Jefferson. We rounded out week out with a concert at Appalachian State in Boone. Our daily outings were close enough to still have plenty of time to relax/read/hike at the cabin! We hope to come back again!

A trip for our dog Halo
We decided we wanted to take our dog, Halo, on a trip to see snow. He is a husky/samoyed and is getting up in age. We wanted him to see the snow. Well it didn't snow, but he loved the steams on the property. He would walk in them and drink the freezing water. We did take him to the ski area so he did get to see the snow. The cabin was wonderful. Very dog friendly. We hiked the different trails on the property, listened to the wind and the rushing stream. It was very relaxing. There are blankets and toys for your dog to use. Everything was described just like it was. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking. We never got a chance to try out the wood burning stove or the fire pit, we just ran out of time. The property is remote and quiet. The bed were comfortable and everything was very clean. We took many walks with our pup and i think he enjoyed the trip. Our host was very quick to respond if we had a question. We throughly enjoyed our stay at dream by the stream.

Family weekend
We had a really nice time. The home was really nice and very clean! The property is beautiful. We had such a relaxing time walking around the property, sitting by the fire pit. The grill is charcoal not gas. I might have missed that. Very prompt reply on any questions we had. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a really great long weekend.

Our second stay at this terrific retreat!
Loved the log cabin which was clean, well stocked and perfectly decorated. Appreciated the extra touches such as the flowers, candy and snack basket. Nature abounds in a peaceful, well planned retreat which includes a fairy trail. Love the secluded setting by the pond, babbling creek and wildlife. Truly a Dream by the Stream. We look forward to a return visit.

From our first contact with Melinda, even after we left - She is AMAZING!!! This cabin was such a perfect getaway for my boyfriend and I. It was SO peaceful and everything about this listing is accurate. Melinda’s Nature Trail was the best! Thanks to her husband Richard for letting us know about this little treasure. great cabin & private property
We adored this cabin & the surrounding land! We trail ran with the dogs every day & were inspired to decorate our own trails with such cute decor. The pond & streams were also very impressive- makes us want to return in the Summer months! The accommodations were more than ample & allowed us the mountain privacy that we love. The cabin is a distance from other entertainment, but that was the point in renting such a private property!

We couldn't have picked a better location to celebrate our anniversary! This cabin is a little piece of heaven tucked away in acres of woods. The sound of the creek was so peaceful.
