Enjoy outstanding views of the working harbor and watch harbor seals swim directly in front of your balcony. You have an unrestricted view of a small island out in the middle of the harbor which is home to an amazing pair of eagles. They give nightly performances of catching fish for their dinner and sit most of the day on the branches of the tallest tree on the island.

This will be our third season and we are very proud of the place. You will find a modern, well-appointed kitchen with Corian counters and birch hardwood floors throughout. The dining room will seat 8 comfortably and the living room has stunning views through a 10 foot sliding glass door and window wall. There is a covered balcony downstairs with wicker furniture and a gas grill. We have installe oil fired base board heat and a brick wood burning fire place for 2012!

Upstairs you will find three separate bedrooms with queen beds, closets, and nice cherry furniture. The upstairs bath is complete with shower and jacuzzi bathtub. The master bedroom has amazing views of not only the entire harbor, but you will see the outer islands and a view second to none of the mountains of Acadia National park. A private covered balcony also has wicker furniture off the master bedroom.

My wife and I purchased this property in 1999. It was the home of Rich Brothers boat building. Over 150 wooden boats were built here over the years. The boat building is gone but the heritage remains in pictures and many stories from the old timers. We have a dock next door where we have a 2 person kayak and a small rowboat for your use. There are 3 excellent restaurants that you can walk, bike, or row to on the harbor. If you kayak to the head of the harbor and pass under the small bridge you will find your self in the marsh and small streams that go all the way to Western Mountain. This is all Park land; very quiet and usually deserted. Bring your fishing rod!!

We hope you will come stay with us in this very quiet neighborhood. We are on the 'Quietside' of the island where the pace is slower; the 'front side' where Bar Harbor's T-shirt shops and bustling town is a easy 15 minute drive. Bass Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and other villages each have their own charm and unique finds.

Acadia National Park surrounds these towns and has myriad carriage paths for biking, trails for hiking, Sand Beach, Ocean Drive; you must see the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain, the first spot on the east coast to see the sun in the States!

The pictures of the interior of the Boat House were very accurate. The remodel of the home was tastefully done and up to date. The views of the harbor from the living room were spectacular. We stayed at the end of the season and it was a bit chilly. The heating system was a bit of an issue as the pipes banged at night which interrupted our sleep. We also new it was a working harbor but if you were a light sleeper the fishermen and boats would wake you up early in the morning. We are early risers so that was not an issue. The owners should also let guests know that there is a room attached to the house that harbor/marina folks use. That did startle us when we first heard people in the room. Some other improvements would be to update the linens and towels, connect tv to cable in the bed room , a vacuum cleaner, and to leave instructions on how to use the VCR.

Aside from the few things we mentioned it was a nice place to stay.

We stayed at "The Boathouse" for a week in October, the weather was so crisp and clear, and the foliage was at peak colors! The Boathouse is large and roomy with views of the harbor from every window. The kitchen is modern and extremely well appointed, the fireplace was perfect for fall evenings, and the covered porches were where we spent endless hours watching the sailboats and lobster boats coming and going everyday. We kayaked in the harbor with the kayaks provided and so enjoyed the pair of eagles nesting on John's Island nearby , as well as getting a close up look at some of the most amazing boats!

                                                            Great house with unbeatable views!

                                                            Amanda S.

Stayed the week with my parents and our 17 month old. We loved every minute of it from waking up early listening to the boats to eating at Thurston's every night. It was nice to be away from the busy streets of Bar Harbor and close to hiking trails in Acadia. We were able to bring our dog and it was a great place for relaxing and getting away from our busy lives. The only issue we had was spotty internet, but it was nice to be unplugged!

                                                            A small corner of heaven

We arrived in the Boat Hose on a very foggy Maine afternoon after a long trip and were very pleasantly surprised to find the picture perfect view form the living room window the next morning. The photos in the listing are only a glimpse of what this wonderful getaway is. The property is well maintained, clean and the kitchen is well equipped. We enjoyed grilling some wonderful steaks purchased at Sawyer's in the balcony hearing the seagulls feasting in the bay below during one of the many sunsets we spent there. The descriptions in the listing are very accurate. Maine is a wonderful state to visit, people are very friendly and kind and Mr Johnson (the owner) was very helpful at all times. The one downside is that we visited one week too early as many businesses do not open until after Labor Day. However, that meant no crowds and we still managed to find some nice places to dine at in Bar Harbor (Side Street Cafe and Fathom) and Southwest Harbor (Sips). The hikes at Acadia National Park were wonderful: one favorite spot was the picnic area in the Schoodic peninsula section of the park. Go see for yourself!!!

Just returned from a wonderful week in the Boathouse. This house is recently updated and has all of the amenities you could hope for. The location is great as it is a little off the beaten path but not from from downtown Bar Harbor or Arcadia National Park. My visit was during the off season so most restaurants were closed except those in Bar Harbor but there are plenty in the area. Can't wait to try a visit during the summer.

I Could Spend All Day on that Upstairs Balcony (and Did!)

We really enjoyed this Bass Harbor house (and exploring the nearby towns, especially charming Southwest Harbor, and magnificent Acadia). There weren't many "knickknacks" on display, as you'll often find in rental/beach properties, which we really appreciated given that we were traveling with a curious toddler. Our only two suggestions would be 1) clearer "welcome" instructions, as we hadn't been provided with information on getting into the house upon arrival and no one greeted us and 2) new bedding and towels. But Carlton mowed the grass so our child could run around on the lawn more easily, which was very thoughtful. It was fun to have access to a rowboat. And, best of all, that upstairs deck! Ahhh, what a wonderful place to relax with a book. Note: We didn't see any harbor seals, but we did spot the eagles, wow!
