About the neighborhood:

It is most important to us that people know what they are getting before they arrive so their expectations are met or (we hope) exceeded. We've been renting our house since right after our daughter was born in 2009. The neighborhood is safe and many of our guests enjoy walking. They often remark on the friendliness of the neighbors and the community spirit. Directly next door on one side of our house is a retiree, on the other is a peaceful, private, family garden. Overall the neighborhood is quiet, but there are sometimes children playing in the streets and the occasional family gathering.

Unlike gated communities (like at Cashiers, Connestee, etc.), Brevard is a mixed income, working-class mountain town. Our neighborhood is diverse and has individually owned, single family homes. The neighbors all work in Brevard or adjacent towns – or are retirees. One of the houses down the street has a bit of “mountain character”, but in general it's a well kept neighborhood where people take pride in their homes.

About Brooke

This was not purchased as a vacation home, but when we met and married, we each came with a house. We love Brevard and hated to give up our connection to the area, so rented in in the hopes to one day live here year round. We named our house 'Adele's Retreat' after the our daughter Adele. This is her enjoying some 'wa-wa' time underneath Bridal Veil Falls in Dupont. A true child of the mountains, she's enjoyed many hours hiking, biking, playing in Pisgah, Dupont and with the neighborhood kids.

Brooke purchased this house in 2003

Why Brooke chose Smoky Mountains

We love Brevard. It is beautiful. The air is clean and the pace is slow. When you visit here, you take a piece of it home in your heart. We hope you'll enjoy our home during your stay.

What makes this house unique

Great location, close to downtown Brevard and convenient to hiking locations and breweries. We had a wonderful time. Clean house and nice yard for our dogs! Comfortable accommodations.

Excellant experience

  • 5 of 5

Adele's Retreat is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Brevard, N.C. Brooke has thought of "everything"! The location is great for doing just about anything in the area. We especially enjoyed watching the birds at the backyard bird feeder. Our "furry" kids enjoyed the lovely fenced yard and we enjoyed chatting with the neighbors. Thanks again, Brooke.

We thought the house was quite nice and was over our expectations. I would suggest that you might add at least add a queen sized bed and remove the double. The neighbor hood was not we expected and was uncomfortable with it. One afternoon when we returned we found the gate in the back yard open and this really made us feel uncomfortable.

Thanks Claude

Owner's Response: Hi Claude, Thank you for letting us know your thoughts. I spoke to the fellow who does our grass and that should not happen again. It would make me uncomfortable, too! Regarding your other comments, we try hard to ensure our guests know exactly what they are getting so their experience meets or exceeds their expectations. I'm sorry everything wasn't that way for you. We do go back and forth about getting a larger bed and will definitely continue to consider it. The master has a king, but the two other bedrooms both have doubles, with a single bunk above one. Brevard is a mixed income, working-class mountain town. Our neighborhood is diverse and has individually owned, single family homes. The neighbors all work in Brevard or adjacent towns – or are retirees. One of the houses down the street has a bit of “mountain character”, but in general it's a well kept neighborhood where people take pride in their homes. I'm glad you had a nice visit overall and hope you do come back to Brevard. I'd be happy to host you again, or put you in touch with a friend who has a house you might be interested in if you'd like. Thanks again for your visit and your feedback. Brooke

Perfect weekend in Brevard!

  • 4 of 5

My daughter and I and the dog(Gatsby) stayed at Adele's retreat in July 2016..I am familiar with Brevard b/c she has gone to camp here for a long time...and currently works at camp. We hiked the first day to High Falls and ate dinner at Jaime's which was fantastic!! On Friday she had to work until noon so the dog and I walked to town and stopped by to see a friend.. We then headed to Asheville to see an old friend and ate lunch at white duck Taco- we also walked into several stores and the dog was welcome.... We stopped by Sierra Nevada on the way home- it was impressive.. We went to the art walk and ate at The Phoenix which was just ok.. Saturday we went to the Farmer's market and picked up several items- cherry tomatoes that were delish, salsa and a mustard marinade- Woogies from Asheville.. then we shopped at Theophilus and ate lunch at Magpie and Three-very good- we took a short walk in the Pisgah forest and then came back and rested before we went to dinner at Marco's.. The house had everything we needed and check-in and check out was simple... thanks Brooke

Great house, great location, enjoyed the stay.

  • 5 of 5

Pre-arrival communication was excellent. House was great. Everything is labelled and instructions provided. Good location. Could walk or bike to downtown easily. Amazing collection of travel books and general reading material. Also good collection of area maps and brochures of area attractions. We would definitely recommend it to anyone planning a stay in the Brevard area.
