Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Perfect if you want a more peaceful approach to Acadia. Well maintained and comfortable...and very well equipped. Close access to lots of amenities without being in the commercial bustle of Bar Harbor.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This place was beautiful! Loved walking to the lighthouse and The Seafood Ketch. The home is fully furnished and outfitted with anything you could possibly need. Having a washer and dryer was really helpful. The location was nice, on the quiet side of Mt. Dessert Island, but within easy driving range of Acadia and Bar Harbor.

A Place to Pause and Be Restored

  • 4 of 5

Joan's Townhouse is decorated in coastal colors that set the stage for a relaxing stay. We appreciated the cleanliness of the home and the absence of carpet. The wood floors and tile made it ideal for our daughters who sometimes react to pet dander. Although Joan lives in the other half of the townhouse, she did not intrude on our privacy, yet was ready to assist in any way.

We could see boats in the cove and the sound of an occasional horn reminded us that we "weren't in Missouri anymore." This quiet location is perfect for anyone wanting to be close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia Park to partake of its offerings but wanting to retreat from the hustle and bustle of that area.

Within a very short walk is the Seafood Ketch restaurant where one can dine indoors or outdoors. The sautéed scallops were among the best we had eaten in Maine. For pollinator/butterfly lovers, the Charlotte Rhoades Park in Southwest Harbor (about 10-15 mins. away) has a compact, stunning Butterfly Garden. The hummingbirds and a yellow warbler were also enjoying this area. Just across the cove is Thurston's Lobster Pound where a person's lobster is chosen right before one's eyes. We got there as soon as it opened (11am), because it is so popular. It lived up to our expectations; the lobster meat was sweet and delicious.

There is so much to do in this area, especially if one is a nature enthusiast. We would stay here again and hope to return to Maine soon.

Lovely home in great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Joan's lovely home. The place was clean and comfortable, and Joan was so nice. We enjoyed meeting her when we arrived and she made sure we had everything we needed. The location is terrific - overlooking Bass Harbor and a short drive from Southwest Harbor and Acadia. It was the perfect home base for our Acadia visit, and we especially appreciated the washer and dryer available to use. We couldn't have been happier with this great place, and we hope to return again!

Wonderful location in Bass Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bass Harbor. The house was lovely with a view of the harbor from the back porch. Joan responded promptly to our emails and calls prior and during our visit. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans and we prepared several meals in the house during our time there. The beds were comfortable and the cool and quiet nights made for sound sleeping. The location was convenient to nearby hiking trails and gardens on Mt. Desert Island. I would highly recommend this house.

Great property in Bass Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

Joan was a dream to rent from! The house was immaculate and had everything we needed. It was a 20 minute drive to Acadia and we loved that we were on the quiet side of the island. There was a beautiful view of the lobster boats and Joan was a wealth of information for us. It's a house that has been passed down, and has been extensively remodeled and updated with all the modern necessities. Lots of towels (which is very helpful for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers), fully equipped kitchen, and a washer and dryer which was VERY useful. All 4 of us were sad to leave at the end of our stay. You will not be disappointed if you book and stay here!!
