Ask a questionAbout Jim and Dixie Lum
We are Jim and Dixie Lum. I retired from American Airlines(Ex-TWA), as a B-767 Captain in 2013. Dixie and I stay busy managing our rental properties. We have five children, yours, mine and no ours. My children are grown. My oldest lives in Blacksburg, VA and just had her second child. My son and middle daughter live in Charlottesville, VA. Dixie's daughter, Katie, is teaching second grade at Quarles Elementary in Winchester and her son Stuart is a recent graduate of Radford University. They all share our love of Ocracoke. Our primary residence is in Winchester, Virginia. We discovered Ocracoke about 20 years ago and have been in love with it ever since.
Jim and Dixie Lum purchased this House in 2002
Why Jim and Dixie Lum chose Ocracoke
We fell in love with Ocracoke Island about 20 years ago while vacationing together for the first time with our children. We purchased our first home on Ocracoke in 2002 and bought our next door neighbors house('Jettshouse'), VRBO listing #136510, from Captain Jette Carr in 2005. We enjoy the remoteness of the Island and the fact that it has not been commercialized. We have been blessed to have met and made friends with so many people on the Island. Ocracoke has truly become our second home. We enjoy the ability to drive on the beach. I enjoy the fantastic surf fishing. The Island has a small airport and as a pilot and aircraft owner, it is very accessible. It is an 8 hour drive from our home in Virginia, but only a 1 hour and 20 minute flight. This makes frequent trips much more feasible. My spelling stinks, I apologize for any errors. VRBO does not have spell check!
What makes this House unique
I was bitten by the offshore fishing bug a few years ago and there is no better fishing than off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We keep a 30 foot Grady White, center console fishing boat, the 'Dixie Lee', docked at the Anchorage Marina in Silver Lake Harbor. When we are not using the boat for fishing, we enjoy just being out on the water or boating somewhere for lunch.
