About Kalia, Lidia and Ron

We live in Southern California and love to travel.

Kalia, Lidia and Ron purchased this condo in 2004

Why Kalia, Lidia and Ron chose Princeville

We acquired our property after many family trips to the Hawaiian Islands. We had been visiting the Hawaiian Islands since 1982. Kauai's north shore is one of the most beautiful places on this planet. The location of our condo on the bluffs of the Princeville Resort overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Anini reef just couldn't be any better. Sea Lodge #A2 is a corner unit away from the rest of the properties at Sea Lodge and is very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. A small piece of paradise!

What makes this condo unique

Unobstructed Views of the Pacific Ocean and the reef below.

Updated and renovated kitchen and bathroom. Jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower.

Trails to the secluded beach directly behind the condo.

Whale watching, Birds - Shearwaters - Nene's to name a few.

Very close to all of the North Shore sights and amenities.

Everything is just as stated. The owner, Ron, is very responsive and amazing. Would stay here again in a heartbeat if at all possible. Yes, it is very open, but that is part of why the views are unsurpassed. Location is just right for all we wanted to do on the North Shore. We even got to witness a wedding on the grass between us and the ocean. Thank you Ron for this blessed vacation! Lisa and Michael

We had issues With centipedes and bugs. Some crawling in the bed. Owners were not really responsive.

  • 2 of 5

We originally booked this unit for five nights but unfortunately, left after just two nights and stayed in a hotel for the remainder of the trip.

The issue we had was with centipedes. We certainly are not adverse to bugs nor would we expect anything different in Kauai. For instance, there were a number of small fruit flies and a few ants—none of which posed a threat or bothered us much. However, the issues with the centipedes were different. We found around a half dozen including some dead ones. One centipede was huge—about five inches long- the others normal size or what you might expect. One of the smaller ones, or what might be a millipede, we found crawling in the bed.

The owners acknowledge in a welcome packet that the centipedes are the “problem insect.” The bites from these centipedes are similar to a bee or scorpion sting and in severe circumstances, may require a trip to the hospital. Luckily, we did not suffer any bites. However, we ultimately didn’t want to take this risk—especially with bugs crawling around in the bed.

I sent a couple emails to the owners making them aware we were checking out early due to this borderline infestation, and I sent a picture of a few of the different centipedes we found. One owner did acknowledge that bugs were likely making their way into the unit because the ground was saturated. The welcome packet did state to empty the trash each day and contain food—both of which we did—but again we were only in the unit for two days.

I asked for a refund considering the circumstances. I never heard back from the owners about this. I can understand if they didn’t want to offer a refund, but we never got so much as an acknowledgment or reconciliation about the situation. I found this to be off-putting.

There are a number of good reviews for this unit. I did not see anything about centipedes in the prior comments. Perhaps our stay was an anomaly. But this will have to be a risk assessment that you consider, especially considering the lack of respond I got from the owners. Perhaps smaller centipedes or millipedes are harmless, but it’s up to you if you want to take the chance of finding them crawling in your bed.

I think this has the potential to be a good unit for the price, but buyer beware.

Owner's Response: Good Evening, We were so sorry to hear about your experience with the centipedes. Unfortunately insects in the tropical islands of Hawaii / Kauai are an ugly reality. We have a local pest control company, Mokihana Pest Control, that treats our unit with environmentally safe methods on a regular basis to control the pests. Unfortunately there is not a lot we can do when the wet weather forces the insects inside. We do our best to provide a clean and safe environment for our Guests. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay on Kauai in spite of the centipedes at Sea Lodge. Regarding your request for a Refund. We would gladly have sent you a refund for the 3 nights had you requested one. However; a request for compensation was never made through VRBO or the emails sent to the Owner, Ron. Perhaps the issue is that you sent your request / concerns to another eb site as mentioned in your email below. We are only associated with VRBO / Homeaway. The contents of the emails are below. Centipedes Bruce Sat, Jun 2, 10:35 AM Hey Ron, I’m trying to talk my fiancé off a cliff right now— we’ve spotted a couple centipedes in the unit. One was ginormous— probably five inches or so long. The other was really tiny. We found the real small one crawling in the bed. My guess is the small ones probably don’t produce very big bites? We have pulled the drapes and bed skirt up off the ground— my assumption is this would keep the big ones from getting into the bed. Do you think that is the case? The good news is, we haven’t seen any other type of bugs— ants, etc. we’ve been following your directions with the trash and also wash all the dishes, so hopefully this will curb things. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks! Bruce Ron Sipe Sun, Jun 3, 12:15 PM to brucetgarrett Thanks for the heads up. I have called Mokihana Pest Control and notified the Sea Lodge Manager. Mokihana sprays the exterior and under the unit once per month to try and keep them outside. Sometimes it just isn't enough. The really small ones are probably Millipedes. The larger one would be a Centipede. When the ground becomes saturated from the rain they tend to look for a dry place to hide. I'll keep you posted when I hear back from Sea Lodge and Mokihana. Bruce Sun, Jun 3, 8:15 PM Thanks for the updates. I did send a separate couple messages through the ABB system to your group. We checked out of the unit yesterday morning. END OF EMAILS

Amazing view and location!

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at Ron and Lidia’s condo. The view is absolutely incredible! Going to sleep to the sounds of the ocean with the bed right next to two windows was heavenly! (It was also fun to shower while looking at the view.) The beach access is not easy (unless you’re part mountain goat) but that’s the trade off for being in this lovely spot. (My mountain goat husband hiked down but I did not.) Hanalei is just a short, very scenic, drive down the road. (We loved Hanalei!) The reason we didn’t give this spot 5 stars is some of the furniture in the condo is not very comfortable. The dining table is bar height with wooden chairs that have very little depth to them. We ended up eating all our meals sitting on the loveseat in the living room. The other two pieces of furniture in the living room are both wooden and not very comfortable. Except for that, everything else was great! (Really comfy bed!) Nice to have laundry very close. (Not in the unit and it cost about $3 a load; need quarters!) Kitchen was open to the rest of the space and a nice size. No AC but plenty of windows to open, fans to turn on, and lovely cross breezes to cool off quickly!

Wonderful Place to Enjoy The Majestic Pacific Ocean

  • 5 of 5

The moment we arrived we felt at home. The unit is well laid out and everything we needed was right at hand. The jacuzzi tub and shower stall were fabulous. The bed was perfect, and the kitchenette and living area were fabulous. Our three night stay was nothing but a pleasure in paradise, even if the weather did not cooperate. We explored the North area of Kauai and were amazed and grateful for every moment, and coming back to Lidia and Ron's condo felt just like coming home. We will return and hopefully to the same spot at Sealodge. We never found privacy to be an issue at all. Falling asleep with sound of the big swells of the Pacific was simply wonderful. Mahalo Nui Loa and Aloha :)
