Why Miriam & Mike chose Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
We had been visiting Costa Rica for quite a few years (first for the birds and wildlife) before finally making our first trek to the Caribbean coast. We fell in love with everything about it. The Pacific side is equally beautiful, (as is all of Costa Rica by the way) but the Caribe is a different world. You instantly feel a more personal and direct connection with everything around you. The people, the sea, the wildlife, the food, the stars at night, the rainforest by day And yet we are close enough to walk down the beach into town for the "normal" pleasures of restaurants, groceries, banking, fun, shopping, and of course, more beaches !
What makes this House unique
The second floor deck which surrounds the house really hits you in the face as you leave the Bedroom area. You instantly see a wide panorama of what this whole area is about. You're seeing the ocean and the birds in the palm trees and garden vegetation around the property. And as you continue around the deck to the back of the house the forest foliage becomes denser as you are looking up into the hills that are the start of the Talamanca range

Very relaxing family time
We stayed with all 6 of us in the house and is was very comfortable. It was nice to be able to walk into town for coffee and sit on the upper deck to see the ocean. Thank you for a much needed , relaxing family vacation in your house .
Fun stay with interesting experiences. I would do it again but not my husband or sister
I have rated our stay in between. I loved the open air experience but my two other companions were not fans. My sister found a huge spider on her bed which kept her awake wondering if there were more ha ha. We all loved the deck and the hammocks and hanging out up there for coffee and watching the birds and the ocean. We saw a huge sloth climb down a tree and she had a baby with her. The location was great within easy walking distance of town. The Wi-Fi was not working will we were there. It was not a huge issue but would have been nice to have to look up things. We loved the bathroom as well. It was very big and very nicely done.
Thank you for staying at Mono en la Cara. We have learned over the years that the rainforest is not for everyone. We are sorry your sister/friend didn't enjoy themselves/
We LOVE being surrounded by the natural environment of the this magnificent place and we encourage other like-minded nature lovers to visit us. : )
We hope your future travels give you great pleasure. Thanks again!
Puerto Viejo New Years
Casa Mono was just right for our family. The upstairs deck was our favorite spot and we enjoyed games, hammocking, reading and just listening to the waves. The proximity to the beach and town were great for nights out and quick trips to the grocery. Roxanna and Charlie were very helpful and responsive. We got great restaurant and bike rental suggestions (there was even a bike to fit our 7 year old). Many people came into town for New Years and I expect the vibe is much mellower at other times of the years. Be prepared for crowds if you go over the holiday.
Thank you, Amy.
It was our pleasure to host you during your trip to Puerto Viejo. Thank you for staying at our house!!
Wishing you safe and happy travels wherever you go next!! It’s so cool that you travel as a family, showing your children unique places and wonderful cultures. It’s so important.

Just what we were looking for.
After traveling the carribean side (Puerto Viejo), the pacific side (Montezuma) and Arenal Volcanoe this home is were we would return to out of the three! The owners and property manager were great resources. The house was unique but felt carribean. The upstairs deck was our favorite. The open house concept was new to us, but we were very comfortable with fans and even a light blanket on cooler mornings. The people in the area were the most friendly and the house really was a short walk to the town. Very peaceful place. Pura Vida
Mono en la cara
this is a great house in a great country, perfectly located between pristine beach and busy, funky downtown. A veranda so nice, you never want to leave the hammock again. A lush garden, perfectly maintained with fruit trees and beautiful tropical flowers. Sweet and friendly hosts with the ability to take care of any of your needs, easy to converse to , reliable, fast and efficient. Thanks to Mike and Miriam and Michel, we had a wonderful vacation, eager to come back as soon as possible.
My really hot wife and I. Thanks for taking me to Puerto Viejo!!
Wow. I stayed in august also and our experience was very different then the really bad review behind mine. People its an open house. That means it wont close up totally. So yes theres going to be wildlife in your house. The geckos were all over. We found a crab in the house one night. And Just like everywhere else in Costa Rica we were, there were ants. The hot water worked very good for us. The house is in a great location. Id say about a ten minute walk to town. A very safe place to leave your belongings all day without fear of them not being there when u get home. The thing Id remind everyone before going to Costa rica is to bring everything you might need. DONT BUY IN COSTA RICA. first off you probably wont find it. and if ya do it will cost you 3 times as much there. Bathing suits, towels, watershoes, tums, deodorant, even bring a half gallon of booze. We didnt and were shocked how much things were. Yes Im talking to you, so take notes!!! Like everyone says, the food rocks. Ask David he will show you the best places to eat. Try the sodas. good food. and cheaper then cooking at home. I eat all the street food without a problem. Thank you David for all the help you were to us. Oh and to the musty smell. Open the windows. Its a really Hot humid place. Its gonna smell like that. Great place, and even a greater location!!
Mono en la Cara is situated just steps from the Blue Caribbean waters on a quiet, small gravel road just outside of the town of Puerto Viejo. Rain forest vegetation and ecosystems extend down from the Talamanca Mountain range right into the village and to the sands of all the surrounding Caribbean coast beaches. Hundreds of Bird and Wildlife species, including Toucans, Parrots, Trogons, Monkeys, Sloths, Tapirs, Red-Eyed Tree Frogs, Butterflies, and Hummingbirds are readily seen in the area - and right off the deck of our property! The diversity of the beaches is amazing - from popular and world famous surfing beaches of Salsa Brava to absolutely empty secluded coves and coral reefs - this is a beach lovers paradise. Music lovers can enjoy live authentic Calypso and Reggae, fantastic Jazz and Salsa, much of it at the incredible restaurants which feature an international variety of cuisines. But first, do a full discovery of the classic Caribbean coconut infused cooking served at the many 'sodas' and local eateries.
Other Activities: Shopping, boating, rock climbing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, and of course, swimming.
