About Richard

Original residents of NYC, my wife and I were lured to Maine by its natural beauty, lakes and easy coastal access. Our vacation home on Sheepscot Lake captures all of these elements while providing convenient access to the sophisticated dining and shopping of Camden/Rockland and Belfast. Sheepscot's serenity and beauty will provide the ideal get away vacation and may result in you too seeking permanent residency in Maine as my wife Stephanie and I did. In 2002, we became permanent residents, making Portland our year round residence, providing convenient access to Sheepscot.

Richard purchased this house in 1999

We can't begin to describe how much fun we had while staying at this rental property! Richard was very kind and accommodating throughout the whole rental process. There was a little bit of construction going on at the lake house next door, but they were very nice and made sure to be respectful during the morning hours.

There was plenty of games and activities available to keep our kids busy for weeks! The dock on the lake provides a great spot for enjoying sunrises, fishing, kayaking, etc. Can't wait to visit again next year!!

Perfect place for the whole family to relax

  • 5 of 5

This was our second summer with two week stay at this wonderful house. It is such a peaceful, fun place to be. The kitchen is well stocked, as others have mentioned, with staples like salt, sugar, trash bags, paper towels, etc. and plenty of cookware and utensils. Our three kids (16, 12 and 10) loved the first floor space which opens onto the hot tub and has ping pong/pool table and TV. We parents enjoyed the upper level with screened in porch, deck with lake views, bird watching and great spots to eat/relax. The lake is clean, warm and beautiful, the loons are busy there. We really enjoyed the kayaks and canoes, which are in good condition. The kids swam all day, inventing games jumping off the dock. And our dog loved his time swimming in the lake! Neighbors are nice, they brought us a basket of local blueberries while we were there! The house is nice and well maintained, but not fussy, so we felt very relaxed there. We did a few side trips to Camden, Belfast, Freeport and Acadia National park, but really were happiest at the house. Richard the owner is very helpful. We hope to be back again! We love it.

Great Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I agree with all the reviews here the place was great! We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe and swimming during the day. At night we would have camp fires and play ping pong! The house was wonderful with the big deck and beautiful flowers, we enjoyed watching the humming birds come to the feeder in the mornings. Thanks Richard we loved it!!

Girls Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our group of six women travelers spent a week in September at this wonderful cottage along with two dogs. Some of us made full use of the canoe and kayaks for touring the lake and getting some exercise while others made use of the comfy decks and lounge chairs. The water was warm enough to swim and we took full advantage. We took turns cooking in the very well equipped kitchen and only left the cottage for a trip to Belfast for shopping and lunch. On the two nights when it was chilly we made a fire in the fireplace and were toasty warm in the living room. There were nearby hiking trails and we enjoyed walks in the woods with the dogs. It was a great relaxing vacation for all of us.

Family Reunion Week

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time in the last four Summers that we have rented this cottage for a reunion with our two sons and grandchildren. There was plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate all three families and we had a great time. The weather was beautiful all week and we spent a lot of time in the water swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. The hot tub was also nice even though we didn't use it much as the weather was very warm and we preferred being refreshed in the cooler waters of the pond. The cottage is well stocked with cooking pots, pans, and dishes so all we had to do was supply the food. It was an extremely enjoyable and relaxful week, other than when the two one-year olds were crying, and we will hopefully get to return again in the future. This is a very nice vacation home!

Comfort with Views!

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 4 adults spending the week at this lovely home relaxing, fishing, reading, cooking and sleeping in! It is a beautiful place to relax and wind down from a busy work life. The bass we caught right off the dock were huge and my little doxie, Dixie, was fascinated by the water, which was very funny to watch. The birds were amazing, especially the eagle, and we were always entertained by the copious amount of hummingbirds. They came right up to us on the porch. The house is very comfortable and preparing meals was a breeze in that fully stocked kitchen! On a rainy dreary Tuesday we prepared a lovely roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings and all the pots and pans we needed were right at hand. We only left the house to get groceries, wine and lobsters except for the trip to Camden to ride the lobster boat and see the seals on the rocks! Cappy's chowder is a tradition in our family so we had a great time there for lunch. The house's owner, Richard, was very accessible and accommodating with any need we had. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. All in all, it's a wonderful place to spend time with the people you love, reconnecting and enjoying the cozy atmosphere...including a warm fire on the chilly nights! Bring a large jigsaw puzzle as the coffee table is large enough to work on a puzzle without ever having to move it during the week. My daughter delighted in that. We highly recommend this lovely place for a memorable and happy vacation. We will return again in the future. You can't lose with this one!
