The villa is surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, kiwi fruit plantations, woodlands, and is a stone's thow away from Montefiascone, the Bolsena lake, and Viterbo. The province of Lazio has much to offer in terms of food, drink, historic hilltop towns, landscapes, nature, and tourist destinations. The bonus is that Lazio is less popular, as most tourists flock to Tuscany, which means that the people around us were mainly local Italians.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owners, Giuseppe and Valeria, who were most generous in offering the largest apartment to us at no extra cost, as we were the only guests staying at the villa. There are four apartments in the main building, two downstairs with terraces front and back, and two upstairs with a balcony and a mezzanine floor. There is an additional 2 person cottage next to the villa. Our kitchen was so well equipped, that we often ended up staying in and cooked the glut of vegetables that we received from Singh, the gardener/care taker. The nights we did go out for dinner, restaurants were close by and easy to find; a rental car is essential when hiring this property. The furniture and decoration inside, as well as in the grounds, were tasteful, well-coordinated, and of a high finish. There is plenty of seating in the grounds, providing multiple options for relaxation and shade.
We booked this holiday last-minute, deciding to find some sun after a tiring house move and a grey English summer. Valeria and Giuseppe were very easy to contact, and very responsive to our needs during the stay. Again, generously allowing us to stay beyond the check out time because we had a late flight out, and the apartment was cleaned in the middle of our ten day stay, as well.
The pool was the main attraction for us in booking this trip, and proved to be a delightful place to spend the day and soak up the sun. It is long and deep enough to be able to swim lengths, with a shallow end big enough to play in. The sunbeds and loungers are plentiful, the gazebos and parasols provide shade, and there are some pool toys. The route from the villa to the pool is through the orchard, where we picked fresh figs from the trees that were warmed up by the sun. Delicious.
This is a gem of a place, and deserves many visitors. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here, and would happily return.
