Ocean Side Cottage with Private Pool and Hot Tub!

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Life on Hatteras Island has it's own pace. The beaches are pristine and literally stretch for miles and miles of white sand and dune. The Atlantic crashes upon the shore while dolphins frolic, pelicans fly in formation overhead and ghost crabs scramble across the sugary sand. There is no place like this on earth!

Nestled within this paradise lies our cozy cottage by the sea. A short walk down the lane leads you over the dunes to the beach. After a long day of sun, sea and sand cool off in your private pool or relax in the hot tub. Plan a cookout, read a book, take some time to recharge and rejuvenate.

If it's action your after there are hundreds of things to do: kite boarding, wind surfing, surf fishing, kayaking, deep sea fishing, sight seeing, shopping, etc., etc., etc. Do it all or do nothing--this is your time.

About Sharon Enoch

Sharon and Paul moved to the Outer Banks in 1989 for a job opportunity. Paul was hired to be chief pilot for a small airline on the islands. What was to be a brief stop on Paul's career path, turned into a life long love affair with the area. They stayed, started a family, bought a house. Sharon opened a popular restaurant, The Full Moon Cafe and Brewery, located in Manteo. They have three wonderful boys, a houseful of pets, and a life filled with laughter and love.

Sharon Enoch purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Sharon Enoch chose Salvo

Although we live only 45 minutes away, the beauty and tranquility of our little cottage is a world apart. Life on Hatteras Island has its own pace. The beaches are incredibly beautiful, stretching for miles in isolated splendor. There is so much to do here: fishing, kayaking, kite-boarding, windsurfing, bird and turtle watching, shopping and lots more. Do a lot or do nothing, the choice is yours.

What makes this cottage unique

The pool and hot tub are a favorite with our guests. Because of the lush, indigenous foliage surrounding the pool, you almost feel that you are alone on the island. The cottage is done in beachy, natural tones with time-washed hardwood floors and comfy couches. This is a beach cottage that truly makes you feel the wind in your hair and the sand between your toes. Enjoy!

Cozy cottage for peaceful retreat

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is quite charming with an eclectic decor that adds to the uniqueness and warmth. The kitchen was adequate for cooking for a small family, the beds were comfy, there were plenty of board games to entertain all, and the grill area is perfect for outdoor dining. We especially enjoyed the hot tub, and sitting by the pool (not warm enough for swimming yet). We were able to bring our "baby" beagle, Walter White; and he thoroughly enjoyed long walks on the beach! I was a bit surprised that the upstairs bath did not include a shower, however it was not a major issue. Also, the dryer was not up to the task of completely drying wet clothes (which we didn't find out until the last day). Overall, I would recommend this quaint, comfy cottage to others as a peaceful retreat from the busy hustle of everyday work (which is exactly what I needed)!! Thanks Sharon and Paul for letting us stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks Jeanne, We are glad you and yours had a good time. Thanks for the input on the dryer and the upstairs shower. We will certainly look into the problem. We never know if something is not working unless our good travelers inform us. Thanks again for the review. Keep us in mind for your next getaway. Sharon

Many nice features, but some problems that could be easily addressed

  • 3 of 5

Great location! Do not miss a morning walk to watch the sunrise at the beach. Pool and hot tub big plus. Some problems that could be easily addressed, I understand owner or cleaning service may not have been aware of any of this... 1) Had to thoroughly disinfect and clean entire coffee pot that had old moldy coffee, 2) Dishes left in dishwasher ( I assumed they were cleaned, but washed again to be sure), 3) Upstairs hallway light bulb out, 4) Skeleton frog in a drawer, 5) Picnic table some boards completely loose on seating area and top, 6) BEWARE- hot water comes out of the cold so don't shrink your clothing, 8) About a cup of food crumbs found in pull out couch that we had to vacuum, 9) No kitchen broom easily accessible (lodged back beind fridge out of reach, 10) Internet choppy, and could not get TV connection to work (may have been a simple setting) but that was fine for us as we don't really watch much TV, and could live with choppy internet.

Owners were very helpful. They checked in with us several times before our planned stay.

We were not able to stay at the house due to a mandatory evacuation the day we were scheduled to arrive, which lasted our whole stay. Sharon was very helpful contacting us several times to so we could figure out other options. She even found us an alternative place to stay. She was also very helpful in making sure we could get our money back from the travel insurance company. We will definitely try to stay with her on our next visit to Outer Banks.

The pool and hot tub were nice. We really enjoyed them. The beds need updating because they are older and uncomfortable. Had a few small issues but over all we had a good time.

So relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was exactly as described and the pictures were spot on. It was perfect for our family of 4 and 2 dogs. We had everything we needed all week and loved the small town feel. Usually by the end of the week we're ready to go home, but this time we really didn't want to leave. This was our 3rd trip to the Outer Banks, but our first in Salvo. We would definitely come back.

Cozy Cottage with lots of Character!!

  • 4 of 5

Our family has been renting in OBX for a long time. We usually stay in Avon, but absolutely loved the laid back feel of Salvo/Rodanthe. "The Nook" was adorable, clean, and walking distance to the beach (with a 7&8 year old in tow). I highly recommended renting a beach cart, it was a total game changer for us this year. We enjoyed mornings on the beach and afternoons in our "private" pool. If you are feeling adventurous, you can rent a Jeep (Island Cruisers- walking distance to the house) and head out to the point or a more private beach spot. There is a small grocery store (also walking distance) that has the basics (a little $$, but easier than going to Food Lion, and they have a great deli). "The Conery" is very close (maybe a mile or so) and has AMAZING ice-cream treats. We bought fish from "Austins" the first night and it was marginal. I recommend Sunrise Seafood in Avon if you appreciate fresh fish. From the outside, the house looks small, but it has lots of storage room and plenty of private space for a family of FOUR. I was a bit disappointed in the kitchen, it was functional, but not very well stocked. If you enjoying cooking, you may want to consider bringing your own spices (I was thankful that I meal planned and prepped prior to the trip) and storage containers (there was ONE Tupperware to speak of and one bowl for mixing). The knives were so dull we had to use my husbands fishing knife. The knobs on the washer had been reversed and the dryer was more or less useless (and extremely loud). The house does not have central air, it has window units. They worked, but they were loud, and the upstairs units had to run constantly to keep the rooms cool. The outside shower did not have hot water, and that was a total bummer. Nothing beats coming off the beach, and taking a nice outside fresh air shower. The water pressure inside the house was weak and the downstairs toilet ran constantly. Honestly, none of these minor "quirks" of the home bothered us, except not having HOT water in the outside shower. We still very much enjoyed our stay at "The Nook" and the beach. I will say that although this house can sleep 6-8 people, it would be very tight and the kitchen space (or lack there of) would be a challenge. We have a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) and it was just fine. "The Nook" is located on a quiet street, with lots of nice homes. The beach access walk way is so charming and ethereal, decorated with seashells in the tree. Enjoy!

Car: necessary

Soundside is one of the hottest locales for kiteboarding. Even if you don't board it is incredible to watch. Nearest operation is within walking distance of the cottage.
