The Palmer House is a multilevel brick and cypress late period Frank Lloyd Wright house, the plan and design of which is based on the equilateral triangle. The house is sheltered by a long broad hipped roof with deep overhangs. The cantilever extending over the terrace is the most dramatic feature of the house. The open interior is fitted with Wright-designed furniture and built-in cabinetry. The Palmer house exemplifies Wright's open, American organic architecture in which all parts are related to the whole and are linked to the environment in an adaptation of form to nature.

In addition to the main house, there is a tea house located on the 2 acres of woodland surrounding the home. The tea house includes a small kitchen and a bathroom with a shower-over-the toilet. Tea House is not available during the winter season.

During your stay, please enjoy complementary tea and coffee, high thread count sheets, feather and non-feather pillows and organic shampoo and conditioner. We are committed to greening the earth and only use organic cleaning products, hand soaps, dish detergent, and laundry soap. Please be advised that there is no air-conditioning (the floors are concrete, the roof blocks direct sun, and the house is surrounded by very large trees and thus the house remains cool).

About The Owner

We currently live in San Francisco and purchased the house in March 2009. Jeffrey Schox, who is a San Francisco patent attorney, spends several weeks a year in Ann Arbor. When he is not in Ann Arbor, the Palmer House will be available for rent as a guest house and as a meeting location. Kathryn is a yoga teacher and plans to offer both public and private classes in the house a few times a year. Jeff's parents, Sue and Gary Cox are the caretakers of the house.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose Angell

We both graduated from the University of Michigan and while attending school, frequently went on long walks or runs with the Palmer House as our destination. Jeffrey has been a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright since an early age growing up outside of Detroit and Kathryn became a fan while attending the Art Institute of Chicago and exploring the suburbs of Chicago.

Authentic Frank Lloyd Wright home

  • 5 of 5

If you want to stay in a authentic FLW house, this is it! They have worked very hard to keep everything as close to the original as possible. Gary, the caretaker, does a great job telling you the history of the house.

Especially great for FLW enthusiats

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Palmer House went beyond our expectations. We have been Wright enthusiasts for many years and to stay in this awesome house that has been painstakingly cared for by only two owners is an experience we will never forget. From the beautiful wood work, expert craftsmanship, unique design and elegant kitchen to the tea house and the lush surroundings, this gem has it all. Even what some may consider short comings , such as irregular sized beds to narrow hall ways, it only serves as a pleasant reminder of all the things we love about FLW and his vision for houses that were to be owned by the common American. The amenities included were great, our tour by Laura was fantastic and we enjoyed the town of Ann Arbor. We'd do it again and recommend it to anyone that wants to relish a beautiful piece of architectural history.

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

August was our check-in month... what wonderful weather.... and oh my gosh, what a wonderful house and time for us. I wish everyone could see my wife, she was in heaven the whole time, it was like two days of living in a Frank Lloyd Wright museum. This is a wonderful home and we can’t thank the owners enough for sharing with us and the world. Every aspect was perfect and unforgettable.

Gary gave us a great tour of the house, along with all of the history of the home and his own personal family history relating to the house. What a treat, he is very knowledgeable and entertaining. And, besides all that he told us they often saw a few deer on the property and we saw 5 deer both mornings of our stay as a little extra treat.

I you like or love Frank Lloyd Wright architecture... this is a must.... we enjoyed every minute.
