About Mark and Colleen

My wife, Colleen, and I met on Whidbey Island many years ago. We have lived in different parts of the country over the years, but always called Whidbey, home.

We live a few miles from The Hideaway, but will never 'bother' you while your are enjoying your stay. If you need something, anything, we are just a phone call away!

Mark and Colleen purchased this house in 1994

Why Mark and Colleen chose Freeland

The South West side of Whidbey Island is very charming, beautiful, rural, and not that far from Seattle. There is a strong community presence and quite a strong artistic pulse, which we thoroughly enjoy. We chose our location 'up' from the water, because being right on the water can be windy and cold, even in the summer! We also enjoy the privacy, and that's hard to find living on the waterfront. Too many other houses!

What makes this house unique

We have a very loyal and large base of people who have used our place over the past 20 years. They tell us it's like a second home to them. We have tried to make all our guests feel that way. Because it is on an acre of land it also offers an abundance of privacy, vegatation and wildlife (Deer, eagles, pheasant, rabbits, etc) along with a great water and mountain view. Our birdfeeders bring in all kinds of interesting birds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We celebrated my husband's first Fathers day here - what a perfect spot! Farmer's Markets, bike rides, a walk on the beach and beautiful views . . . can't wait to return!!!

Cozy home with an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were able to stay in the Bush Point Hideaway as a quick getaway for our spring anniversary. The pictures were very true to the property and the hot tub was very private. The home was so cozy and relaxing with the fireplace. Having written instructions for the appliances, heat etc. is always so helpful. We fed the birds and watched the sunsets each night. The bed was also comfy. It is always easier to relax when you sleep well. We love the south Whidbey area with all of the trails, beaches, and great food. Mark was timely with responses and information as well as very easy to work with. We both would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Gorgeous Views & quiet

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is just amazing! Very quiet, with spectacular views that give amazing sunsets. It was neat to see all of the wildlife, just outside the door. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Cozy, comfortable and unforgettable view

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a great long weekend at this house, spending much of our time indoors enjoying movies, the hot tub and an incredible view of the sound.

The neighborhood was scenic, friendly and great for long walks ... at times with the local fauna (deers). A short drive later, we were able to enjoy quaint Freeland and Langley. A slightly longer drive in the other direction lead us to Coupeville.

Mark made himself available for any questions, which we had when we arrived (setting up the cable and DVD player). With his quick and friendly guidance we were good to go for the next few days.

We would definitely love to return for another visit next summer. Thanks Mark!

So peaceful - We just keep coming back!

  • 5 of 5

Our July 2018 stay at the cottage was either our 6th or 7th time (we lost track)! We love the location on a dead-end street overlooking the shipping lanes and the mountains. It is so relaxing sitting on the (large) deck and watching the ships go by; also the beautiful sunsets and the wildlife! Deer, bunnies, squirrels and birds galore give you some great photo opportunities. This time we were even visited by a hawk that swooped down and landed on the roof! We came this year to simply relax, so we didn't venture too far, though we consider visits to Langley and Coupeville mandatory.

And my wife celebrated another birthday at the amazing Gordon's On Blueberry Hill, a very fine restaurant just 10 minutes away from the cottage. The house itself is simple, extremely clean, comfortable, and well stocked for making meals in, including a gas grill on the deck right by the hot tub. This is a great place to stay on South Whidbey Island. And our Corgi, Cooper, gives it two paws up!

Our favorite place!

  • 5 of 5

Been coming for years and it's the best. The view, the wildlife, close to other little towns - very relaxing. The owner is really personable and kind and communicates well - it's funny we never met him in person but he remembers us. I kind of don't want to submit this review because I don't want it to limit the availability even more than it already is.
