About Mark and Colleen

My wife, Colleen, and I met on Whidbey Island many years ago. We have lived in different parts of the country over the years, but always called Whidbey, home.

We live a few miles from The Hideaway, but will never 'bother' you while your are enjoying your stay. If you need something, anything, we are just a phone call away!

Mark and Colleen purchased this house in 1994

Why Mark and Colleen chose Freeland

The South West side of Whidbey Island is very charming, beautiful, rural, and not that far from Seattle. There is a strong community presence and quite a strong artistic pulse, which we thoroughly enjoy. We chose our location 'up' from the water, because being right on the water can be windy and cold, even in the summer! We also enjoy the privacy, and that's hard to find living on the waterfront. Too many other houses!

What makes this house unique

We have a very loyal and large base of people who have used our place over the past 20 years. They tell us it's like a second home to them. We have tried to make all our guests feel that way. Because it is on an acre of land it also offers an abundance of privacy, vegatation and wildlife (Deer, eagles, pheasant, rabbits, etc) along with a great water and mountain view. Our birdfeeders bring in all kinds of interesting birds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We celebrated my husband's first Fathers day here - what a perfect spot! Farmer's Markets, bike rides, a walk on the beach and beautiful views . . . can't wait to return!!!

Cozy home with an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were able to stay in the Bush Point Hideaway as a quick getaway for our spring anniversary. The pictures were very true to the property and the hot tub was very private. The home was so cozy and relaxing with the fireplace. Having written instructions for the appliances, heat etc. is always so helpful. We fed the birds and watched the sunsets each night. The bed was also comfy. It is always easier to relax when you sleep well. We love the south Whidbey area with all of the trails, beaches, and great food. Mark was timely with responses and information as well as very easy to work with. We both would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Perfect for a winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect winter weekend getaway for the three of us. The view was wonderful. The hot tub was clean and relaxing. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. We were so thankful for the ability to bring our small dog and the yard was the perfect size for her. Stores and restaurants are close by. The neighborhood was very quiet. My only complaint, if I had to find one, would be that the shower water pressure is so lacking that I hated having to shower there. I am not sure if it could be remedied with a new shower head or if that is just a pitfall of island living. All three of us, and the dog, enjoyed our time there, very much, and would definitely stay there again.

We are one week removed from this Mark and Colleen's cozy hideaway and we're missing their special place. We are on the road for business and staying in little hotels for 3 months and have already been on the road for a month. For two...make that 3 road-weary travellers (our rescue kitty Catlyn is with us...thanks Mark and Colleen!), this was such a much-needed break.

This little cottage is hidden and secluded and QUIET! And when it's cold and rainy (as it should be!) this is such a comfort zone. We were able to work and still decompress. Nothing like having the fireplace on and watching the world through the big picture windows. Or sitting in the hot tub in the rain or, for us, being able to cook for ourselves is such a treat after staying in little hotel rooms!

Mark and Colleen have such a great place. How can you go wrong with a teddy bears waiting for you? Thank you both for sharing this with us and for letting us bring our cat as well. We told her she had to be on extra special behavior and she pretty much just lay on the floor in front of the fireplace or watched through the window and enjoyed the serenity just like us!

Magical hot tub getaway

  • 5 of 5

The perfect place to revitalize the weary body. The views from the deck and the hot tub are spectacular. The cabin lacks for nothing. Everything you need for a pleasant stay is there. Only wish we had stayed longer. Marc was in touch with me within an hour of booking and was great. Highly recommended!!
