Enjoy the peace and quiet in this 1 bedroom+ loft cabin in the Heart of the Hill Country. The location is somewhat remote but also close to all of the amazing activities that the Hill Country has to offer: Swimming, hiking, biking, horse back riding, dining, the 290 wine trail & more! Equine/pet friendly! Bring your horse along to share your vacation with our 2 horses that occupy the ranch, as well as our 2 goats and 4 miniature donkeys Bud & Sissy, Pancho & Gus. Get the full Texas experience at Salty Dog Ranch! Up to 3 dogs are welcome for a $75 per pet fee. Large fenced yard for their safety- dogs must remain inside the yard or on leash to keep them safe from the ranch animals- especially the donkeys! Donkey are protectors and dogs are viewed as a threat, they will kick/stomp your dog if it is loose and chasing them. Please never leave your children or pets unattended!! We are not responsible for injury to registered guests, pets, children or additional guests. The cabin is cozy with fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer and Smart TV & DVD Player. Pretty hill country views, big oak trees and ample opportunity to interact with the livestock.

Nice spot in the country. The visit from the ranch animals a couple times a day was fun. Halfway between Marble Falls and Johnson City made both places very accessable. Comfortable and quiet. Dana was very quick to communicate, and made some great restaurant recommendations.

We absolutely loved our mini vacation at the ranch . It was so relaxing and the animals were the best . Our 6 year old fell in love with Dune Bug. Thank you for the stay . Highly recommend!

My wife, 2 kids and I had the most amazing time at the ranch for spring break! The property is peaceful and beautiful, and the night sky is absolutely stunning with the amount of stars you can see. Communication with the host was wonderful, and it’s just a short drive from fun towns, activities, and hiking at the state park. The home was clean, cozy, comfortable, and well stocked.What truly put this property over the top are the bonus “friends”! When you arrive, you’ll likely be greeted by Missy, the black and white goat who clearly thinks she’s in charge. Once you gain her approval, the rest follow! Leroy Brown, the daddy goat, hangs back at first but becomes a mush once he warms up. Their two babies were so fun to watch climbing, jumping, and playfully head-bumping.It was hard not to see Missy somewhere near the cabin at all times- she definitely keeps an eye on things! Our kids yelling “Missy’s coming!” every time we pulled in was the best. The horses, Dune Bug and Doc, loved apples and were so gentle (Doc especially loved nose pets). Most mornings, Dune Bug would be the first to greet us on the porch! And the donkeys, Sissy, Bud, and baby Gus, were our favorites! Sissy & Bud also loved some apple slices and Gus certainly preferred carrots. Gus is certainly a handful for his parents, but he is goofy, playful, and so fun to watch! We’ve stayed a lot of places for spring break, but this was hands down our favorite. We’ll definitely be back!

Relaxation in the Hill Country

The cabin was perfect for our needs. It was even cuter in person, with many updates and well - equipped. My grandson enjoyed all the animals, and we enjoyed the fresh air and the fire pit!

Great time and really enjoyed the animals

We had a great time at Salty Dog Ranch! The home was super clean, cozy very well stocked. Our hosts were very nice and even came back with food for the animals so we can feed them. We loved having the animals come by and visit us! This was a major highlight, definitely recommend!

Relaxing Hill Country Stay

We had a wonderful, peaceful stay over the July 4th weekend. We brought our dogs and the property was close to Inks Lake State Park and Pedernales Falls State park for wonderful hiking. After meeting and becoming familiar with the horses, donkeys and goats the dogs were fine. It was very nice to have the fenced yard to let the dogs off lead safely.

Perfect country getaway

From the perfectly decorated porch and interior, to the amazingly friendly farm animals, this property was exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful sunsets, star gazing, feeding the animals, and being located 15 mins from Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, and Johnson City, made this stay perfect. We will miss Milo (the super friendly bull) until we return.

Quiet and Relaxing

Our stay was just the peaceful escape we were looking for. Our pups don't do fireworks and the ranch was the perfect place for them and us too. It was secluded enough for us, yet close enough to town for a dinner run if we desired. The accommodations were great and the added bonus of the farm animals was so fun! Dana and Shawn were very friendly and helpful.

Cute hill country cabin

We had a great stay at the little cabin. It is as advertised and the owner was very responsive when we had questions about the heater. Our son loved petting the horses that are on the property. The kitchen is equipped with all the things you need and it was great to have Netflix for our movie night.

Best vacation!

We loved every minute of the most pleasant and relaxing vacation we’ve ever had. The cabin was very comfortable, even with our daughter and 3 grands spending two days with us. The animals were so much fun, and warmed up to us quickly. There were different areas outside to have a fire to sit around, or enjoy the sight and sounds from the porch/patio, and even have a meal out under the trees in the picnic area. We just can’t say enough about our week there…..it was wonderful and just what we needed to destress. Wayne and Eva

Fun Family Getaway

We had a great time! The place was cozy and well taken care of. The kids LOVED Dunebug, Smokey, and Glen (we couldn’t remember the other horse’s name so they called him Glen. He will always be Glen to us). And Milo was a big hit! The only suggestion would be to have a light at the main gate. We drove right past it at night. Will definitely stay again!

Relaxing, peaceful country getaway

Loved staying at this small ranch house and being able to have the horses, donkeys, and cows in the pasture with us! We enjoyed feeding them the provided treats and all were very gentle and calm. It was even better being able to have our dog there as well. The house is nicely shaded and which kept the hot summer temperatures agreeable while sitting out on the porch. There’s outdoor propane burn pits, and fire pits that we were able to take advantage of to cook steaks for dinner, and there’s several hammocks scattered in shady spots throughout the pasture. Very nice stress free place to enjoy.

Great Hill Country retreat

We had a great time at the Salty Dog Ranch. The cabin was clean, comfortable and had all we needed. The porch was a great place to sit and watch the stars at night and the birds in the mornings. Our 3 dogs enjoyed the fenced yard and practiced their herding skills from the safe side of the fence. Milo, Daisy, Bud, Sissy. Doc and Dune Bug were frequent and very interactive greeters on the ranch and came right up to the cabin porch for pets and treats. All in all a great Hill Country experience.

Sweet property and sweet animal friends

The property was beautiful and the house was clean and quaint. The animals were a lot of fun and my wife had THE BEST time. When the review says you need to be comfortable with the animals, you definitely do. They weren’t aggressive or anything but they were persistent, especially Roman the goat. I had to fight him a bit with an ice chest for the right to get in the porch My only suggestion is the gate to the porch needs to either swing in the other direction or there needs to be better footing around the base of it.

The most peaceful place on Earth.

This is the second mommy and me vacation I have taken here. My kids LOVE the animals. They are so friendly, there when you wake up, and there when you go to bed. My son loved Milo (gentle giant) and grew so attached to him that we had to go search for him after a rainstorm because my son wanted to make sure he didn't get hurt during the rain. The property is perfect for a quiet retreat. Any storm chasers out there would love this place. We were able to enjoy one of the coolest lightening storms of my life. You could see for miles as the storms rolled in and your view isn't blocked by things like it would be in the city. I will absolutely be returning in the future!

This is my second Airbnb/VRBO Venture and I pride myself in providing a great guest experience that will be remembered! Spend your days playing with and loving on all the ranch animals! All the animals love lots of petting & treats. We are close to Pedernales Falls State Park, Inks Lake State Park, Fredericksburg, Marble Falls, the Sweet Berry Farm (& Pumpkin Patch) the Hill Country Wine Trail that runs from Johnson City to Fredericksburg & so much more! The round paddock on the property will hold up to 3 horses for an additional $75 a night. Horses boarded on the property need to have proof of negative Coggins. Horses must remain in pen- no free roaming. Up to 3 dogs are allowed for $75 per dog & use the fenced yard attached to the cabin or be leashed at all times for their protection from the ranch animals. Especially the donkeys! Donkeys are protectors and dogs are viewed as a threat to them if your dog approaches the donkeys they will kick/stomp them to protect themselves. We are not responsible for injury to registered guests, pets, children or additional guest/visitors. Never leave pets or children unattended!
