Westkapelle is a wonderful place that invites you to linger both in summer and in winter. Westkapelle lies at the westernmost point of the Netherlands, and is surrounded by the salty waters of the Westerschelde and the North Sea. Westkapelle has much to offer, including:

Westkapelle is surrounded by water to the north, west and south, it is protected by the dunes and the sea dike. The sea dike shows the great contrast between water and land. Tourists like to climb up to enjoy the breathtaking view. The waves, passing ships and fantastic sunsets are always mesmerizing. If you turn around, you will see the characteristic red roofs of the village, always a fascinating picture. Most of the houses were built during the reconstruction in the 1950s. The pre-war Westkapelle has almost completely been destroyed during the Second World War. The sea dike was bombed by the Allies in October 1944 to liberate Walcheren. Due to the resulting bomb hole in the dike, the sea had run wild in the village, which has led, inter alia, to the emergence of the large lake behind Westkapelle.
