The place was very nice, clean and had everything we needed for the weekend (even an EV charger and solar panels)! Conveniently located. Highly recommended.
This is a great place to stay and we would gladly stay again the next time we are in Charlottesville. The space was very inviting and immaculately clean. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed in terms of appliances, dishes, and utensils. The neighborhood is quiet and within a 10 minute drive to downtown or just about anywhere else in Charlottesville. Kate, our host, was outstanding - very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend this place!
The house was perfect for three generations of family members visiting for UVA family weekend! The property is lovely with all amenities we needed, and the location is convenient to the campus, local attractions, and some amazing restaurants. Kate is a very kind and responsive host. Highly recommend!
This was a perfect refuge when we arrived in the dark after a treacherous day of driving through ice and snow and found the lights and electric fireplace on to welcome us. Excellent use of a small space and all the kitchen amenities you could hope for.
In town for a football game (Go Heels!) and booked this cute cottage for its prime location. Close to many restaurants and campus. The interior was surprising with great attention paid to detail, lots of high end fixtures. They did an amazing job fixing this place up. I even took pictures to use on upgrades at home!
Kate was a superb and patient host. I booked for 2 people, me and my wife. She was having surgery at the UVA Medical Center. First one of our daughters wanted to be with us for the week and she brought her pup. Then second daughter surprised us and arrived with her husband to be there for the surgery. Kate was understanding of these adjustments and all worked out. well.
Close to everything we wanted to see & visit ... but 1 1/2 baths not really enough for more than 4 people. Well equipped kitchen but no stool to reach glasses on top shelves. Skimpy closet space ... be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Extremely low ceiling in loft. Nice sitting area but very small TV. For budget conscious, a good choice.

Of course there is a stepstool--it's in the laundry closet. It's pretty reprehensible to only give my Carriage House 4 stars because of things that were posted very clearly in the ad, like the loft's low ceilings (it's a loft), the size of the closets (they are normal), the 1.5 baths (one with a double vanity), and the size of the TV (normal hotel size). By the way, the 6' x 2' closets are the standard size, and are stocked with shelves and hangers for your clothes, should you choose to unpack and settle in. You rented my Carriage House for 3 people, but it sounds like you and your ego were too large for an 800 sq ft apartment. If you wanted a place with more bathrooms and bigger closets, then you should have rented some place else...where you could isolate from everyone...anyone who complains that the wine glasses are too high and the TV is too small is probably in lovely C'ville for the wrong reasons!
Lovingly designed by the owner with a mixture of building materials from her own 1880's farmhouse next door and contemporary items to create a light and functional home for a weekend or, as I did, an extended stay. Everything was clean, neat, and well thought out with beautiful surfaces. Super Belmont location convenient to the highways and the downtown. Charlottesville was so charming I brought a house here during my stay.
The property is exactly as shown in pictures. It's in a residential neighborhood about 4 minutes drive from downtown Charlottesville and a perfect place to crash. We had a family of 6 sleep there comfortably for one night.
Katherine was a very responsive host and was kind enough to let me use this rental to host a small dinner event. All of my guests commented on how beautiful the carriage house is - it's so nice and has great views out of the back windows! It feels both spacious and cozy and has lots of pullout options for adding beds if needed.
Property owner is NOT friendly or accommodating , hidden fees
Owner did not inform us of a pet fee that we were charged when we arrived, tried to make us pay an extra amount PER MINUTE to check in early, watched us from her window and after leaving and tried to make us pay an extra fee because we had 7 people, even though the house should accommodate over 8.
She was unfriendly when we approached her asking if we could check in early.
The house itself was nice, however because of the hidden charges and unfriendliness of the owner, we would not recommend staying.

From your review, it sounds like my home was everything as described in my ad. I worked double time, in spite of your friend letting himself into my *own* home and your surprise dog, to get the Carriage House cleaned and sanitized early, which is why there is an additional fee for early check in. The CH was spotless and made up for all of the guests that you booked. I answered all of your messages as soon as you reached out. And I had to wait around for you and your friends to leave some time after check out so I could go in and clean, which is when I saw that you brought an extra guest.
Now let’s talk about what went wrong. You absolutely did not read any of the house rules, you brought a dog without booking it in on VRBO, a member of your party tried to let himself into my own home by just trying the door knob, you arrived 2 hours early and insisted that I let you in because you needed to dump the dog and had no plans for the dog otherwise, and you brought additional people beyond the number of guests you booked in. You still haven’t paid for the 7th guest, so you are scamming me. Seriously, if you had read ANY of the terms of this booking we both would have been happier. It was very clear that you didn’t bring a crate for your dog, not did you feed him in the kitchen. I don’t even have categories for some of the shocking ways that you treated my home. How did you get muddy boot prints on the mattress pad? Maybe it’s better I don’t know the answer to this. I presume you do not go to a restaurant 2 hours before your reservation time and insist on getting seated because you brought a dog and he’s hungry and you didn’t bother to feed him, then try to force yourself into the kitchen, and finally order food for 7 but then only pay for 6 guests. Oh and jump on the linens in muddy boots. Or maybe you do.
Honestly I have never had guests like this on VRBO and I pray that this was a one-off experience.
This little place packs a punch in all the right ways. Sleeps 6 -7 comfortably in 5 beds but can add more by using the fold out sofa and chair. Everything was perfectly clean. Pet and kid friendly. Host is very responsive with communications. I highly recommend this location.
Awful guest who refused to check out and instead went to play golf and the returned for his stuff at 5 pm but left a huge mess including milk on the counter and bathroom stuff everywhere.
