Cabin on the Feather River

Bedrooms Studio
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Tiamo cabin is the perfect place to build special loving memories with friends and family.

Tiamo Cabin is nestled right on the river just down stream from where the Spanish and Indian Creeks come together to form the East Branch of the North Fork of the Feather River.

My desire is to help families escape the stress and pressures that life can throw at them, and get away to make some special memories. Over the years I have created numerous memories with many of my friends and family and now enjoy letting other families share in the magic of Tiamo Cabin on Bella Paradiso.

Tiamo Cabin is a quaint, notty pine cottage situated next to the river. It has it's own private patio on the river with a 2 person tree swing chair, hammock, picnic table, BBQ and bird feeders. Ample parking on site for your boats/snowmobiles/quads/etc.

About The Owner

Most of the greatest childhood memories I have were from family trips to the mountains on or near lakes and rivers. When I stumbled upon the property I now call Bella Paradiso, I realized how special the property was and the infinite number of magical memories that could be made here. Since I bought the property in 2004 I have made numerous memories with family and friends. Everyone that visits the property agrees it is truly special. Life is too can't make too many magical memories! Russell Marsan

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2004

Why The Owner chose California

This property has no neighbors and features one of the best swimming holes on the Feather River to float your cares away. If you love to fish, the Feather River and surrounding lakes and streams offer some of the best fishing in Northern California.

What makes this cabin unique

If you love the great outdoors, guests regularly witness: Bald Eagles and Osprey taking fish from the river; peregrine falcons raising their young; River Otter families playing; Beaver swimming; Mink hunting Crawdads; flying squirrels feeding from our bird feeder at night; Canadian Geese raising their babies; Mergansers fishing in the river; numerous resident hummingbirds flying within inches all around you.

The Feather River Canyon is rich in train history and attracts many enthusiasts. You can view the occasional trains as they slowly wind their way high up on the canyon wall.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much for the quiet & peaceful retreat. We loved seeing the nesting peregrine falcon and the bald eagle. So happy to have found this place :-)

At Cafe Pangea, the guiness chocolate is a MUST for all travelers.

Thanks for everything.

What a find!

The cabin was great, the setting was awesome and the owners were as nice as can be. What a great couple and what a great place! We hope we can visit again soon.

Thanks for the memory of Tiamo.

Yellow Jackets and a misleading picture

  • 1 of 5

My family booked this cabin for a weekend. I was surprised when the cabin was not on the water like in the first picture. The Tiago cabin is closers to the road and away from the river.

The yellow jackets where so bad that we couldn't eat outside without being swarmed. There was a huge, basketball sized nest about 50 feet from the cabin.

The cabin was nice enough but the water smells and taste nasty. Also be prepared to was the dishes BEFORE you use them. The guest are responsible for doing the dishes and removing their own trash.

Another thing that I wish I had known about this place, is that all fire pits and access to the river are near the property owners house.

Owner's Response: I'm saddened to read this review and sorry for any negative experience to a guest at Tiamo Cabin. In 9 years this is the first negative review Tiamo Cabin has received. If you decide to visit you can read the dozens of great reviews from visiting families over the years in our guest books. Unfortunately it was a bad year for yellow jackets in the Sierra Nevada's this year. There was indeed a basket ball sized nest high in an oak tree over the river about 120 feet from the cabin. I wasn't made aware of it until after the next guests departure and have since had Clark Pest Control eliminate the nest. We are on well water that has mineral content, but it's safe and potable. I haven't had this complaint before either. The contract clearly states that guests must clean their dishes before they leave and remove the trash since the property is rural and has no garbage service. Every guest knows this before coming and it's a common practice for properties on VRBO. Tiamo Cabin IS actually closer to the river than the secondary residence I have on the property. I don't live on the property; I just visit it some weekends. If I'm there guests have total privacy if they desire or they can interact with my family as well. Fire pits, stone patios, beaches, horse shoe pit, etc. are scattered throughout the entire property and guests are allowed to use the entire property as clearly stated in the welcome instructions in the Tiamo Cabin binder. There is no part of this unique river front property that is off limits to guests. The property is a great place for family enjoyment if you like swimming/floating in the river, campfires under the stars, fishing and seeing wildlife such as beaver, otters, mink, osprey, eagles and more. I'm sorry this guest didn't enjoy their stay, but as you will read in the guest books if you visit, Tiamo Cabin on the Feather River is a special property that families thoroughly enjoy.

Tiamo, tiamo

Our stay was brief, but beautiful! We loved everything about our time spent there. The pictures here on VRBO don't quite capture the magic of this place. It was greater than we had expected, and we felt so fortunate to have discovered this property.

We were happy to meet the owner and chat briefly . He stopped by for a short time to refill the gas for the BBQ, and to bring us a portable AC unit. We felt that was incredibly accommodating considering we did not contact him with these requests. Thoughfully, there was firewood (including kindling) already placed near the fire pit for us. We were encouraged to enjoy the entire property.

Early in the morning, we watched a bear climbing in the trees across the river. We watched it for roughly an hour, as it dined on it's favorite leaves, and fell from branches.

The trains were wonderful! There were so many of them! They were not disruptive, rather they were soothing. Some of the trains that went by, caused the tracks to ring in a way that sounded similar to a meditation bowl. It was quite an experience, especially in the dark of the night.

We absolutely loved this cabin and hope to return and learn more about the property, and explore the surrounding areas. We also look forward to spending time getting to know the town of Quincy.

Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us!

Will be back

  • 5 of 5

There is so much to write but I will keep it short. Family of 4 with 10/13 year old boys. Parked car. 10 year old and I walk to railing. 10 year old says "Wow, thanks dad, I love you". It only got better from there. Did not even unpack, just walked the grounds and enjoyed for awhile. Tina and Russ were the ultimate hosts and we cannot thank them enough. Fishing, tubing, crawdads, peace, quiet, etc., etc..

Tiamo cabin hideaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just as described and had all of the amenities you will need for a relaxing getaway. The cabin sits on a private bluff overlooking the river. There is lots of late afternoon shade. This was a beautiful location on the feather river with easy access, and with an excellent vantage point for viewing nature . We watched a beaver as he slowly swam and dipped in the river. There was a kit fox and babies across river. The river is full of trout for good fishing. The cabin has a private 2 person swing which we relaxed in each evening as the sun went down. The property was fully accessible to us with horseshoe pit and swimming areas. There are numerous hiking opportunities nearby, and we found Indian falls with a big 10 foot river waterfall and deep swim holes. This is exactly what we were looking for in the High Sierra's and would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a private getaway!

Relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay on the river with tons of space for the kids to run around in and endless things for them to do. I caught a couple of nice trout near the old railroad pier while the kids also had a great time fishing and chasing crawfish in the shallows. A large beaver swam right by me the first evening and continued upstream apparently not troubled by me, then a couple days later the kids and I saw a river otter before it disappeared under water.

The cabin was clean and spacious and the kitchen was functional. We used the bbq every evening even though we had a little cool rain one day, and enjoyed a nice fire down by the river at the end of the day. The kids played a lot of horseshoes.

The trains are loud down in the bottom of the canyon but they are not so frequent and became just another part of the scenery after a while.

There's a hiking trail across the street, just up the embankment behind the green road sign saying "Belden 18 miles". About 1/2 mile east there's a great little beach and good fishing at the confluence. The beach is on the south side of the road at the end of a dirt access road on your right just before the bridge.

Tiamo cabin is highly recommended for a family getaway, especially if the kids are a bit older and water-aware.

Plumas County is one of the best kept secrets in California. The people are friendly and there is no Tahoe traffic to contend with. If you like hiking there are numerous hiking trails nearby, including the Pacific Crest Trail just 15 minutes away. One of my personal favorites is the hike up to the Sierra Buttes Lookout....simply breathtaking! A shorter hike is just 5 minutes away at Indian Falls; a lovely spot for a picnic and a swim. Another must see is the Butterfly Valley Botanical Area about 5 miles away. You can see the unusual California pitcher plants and several species of wild orchids growing in our beautiful mountain meadow. If you are into mushroom hunting, Plumas County offers a wide variety of some of the best Choice mushrooms to forage - morels, chanterelles, boletes, shrimp russela, etc.

Numerous lakes are within close driving distance and offer great fishing, skiing, kayaking, swimming, boating, etc.

Quincy is just 10 minutes away and has a variety of great restaruants to choose from. One of my personal favorites is the Pangea Cafe; I love their spicy salmon salad and there sushi. After dinner pop over to the Drunk Brush Wine Bar for a great glass of wine or imported beer while listening to some talented local musicians.

Plumas County is filled with beautiful scenery, friendly people, and no crowds; it's like stepping back in time.
