Experience a rare island adventure in this three bedroom home with 120 feet of beachfront property, only 90 minutes from Seattle and 60 minutes from Tacoma.

Begin your excursion with a short ferry ride to a small private island where the deer are so friendly they will eat out of your hand.

Take out the kayaks and the paddle board and you're very likely to see some of the neighborhood seals. You might even be lucky enough to see an orca or humpback whale! Or follow the beach around the entire island in about 1.5 hours. The grill, fire pit, and yard games will enhance your outdoor experience. Or visit the island playground, tennis, and basketball court with just a short 5-minute walk.

When you're ready to wind down from your day, pour yourself a drink, fire up the grill, and enjoy the spectacular views from the huge deck. Hang out in the 6-person hot tub. If you stay up late enough, you'll enjoy some fabulous star-gazing.

In the morning, help yourself to a cup of coffee and enjoy the beautiful sunrise.

Food & supply notes: This is a tranquil place to disconnect for adventure and relaxation, which means no grocery stores, gas stations, or restaurants. The kitchen is well-stocked and supplied with oil, spices, and coffee and tea. There is normally propane at the house, but bring a tank as back-up in case the tanks are empty. The Food Market at Key Center is the closest large supermarket, so be sure to stop before you get on the ferry if there's anything you need for your stay.

Ferry notes: The ferry dock is at 20801 Isted Rd NW, Lakebay, WA. The cost is $20 for the car and driver, and $3 for each additional passenger. Only exact cash and checks are accepted, no credit cards. We will arrange a ferry pass for you and help you with all the details!

Boat and Jet-skis: There is a buoy at the house if you plan to arrive via your own boat. Please let us know if this is the case so we can provide you with boater instructions.

Great Stay Too Short

We spent two nights here with family and wished we could have stayed longer! Everything was clean and as advertised. We used the hot tub, the fire pit, and the kayaks! Only wish there were some toys for the young children we had with us but overall a wonderful time!

Weekend to remember

Our stay was full of kayaking, hot tub, clams and so much time on their beautiful deck around the fire. This home has all the toys for the kids (and adults) and outdoor living. The views were spectacular and the neighbors are so friendly. We recommend this get away for anyone who wants a quiet weekend with lots of things to do at the house. Thank you for making everything so easy and letting us stay in your home. What a weekend full of family memories!

Home Away from Home

What an absolutely wonderful experience. From the waterfront hot tub, amazing views, the deer eating straight out of your hand. Our boys enjoyed the downstairs with bunk beds and ping pong. This was an amazing experience for everyone. Even our little sun seeking Boston Terrier was happy. We are already looking forward to our next trip. Thank you, so much.

A Perfect Getaway

Spent three nights at the Ostrich Nest with my mom and teenaged son. The house was clean, comfortable and beyond well stocked. Enjoyed star gazing on the patio, the sound system in the hot tub, kayaking in the sound and walking around the island. Encountered challenges with the stove and microwave but the owner was very responsive. Didn't realize the ferry only accepts cash, but luckily my son was able to fit the bill 😊 Would definitely return!

Second stay this year!

We found this home in January and were so pleased we went back in August for our 25th anniversary. We've never stayed in a vacation home twice although we rent 3 or more times a year. We're seriously considering staying here on future vacations as well. The key to a successful stay here is coming well prepared. Many basic needs are covered but you cannot "run to the store". Bring everything! Set your alarm clock for the sunrise! Seals, otters, deer, herron and a constantly changing tide just steps off your bulk head. An intimate place for a couple or great place for the family!

Perfect!!

We were a little nervous about spending Thanksgiving with the grocery store a ferry ride away. However, the Ostrich Nest had everything we needed to cook a full meal (we did bring the roasting pan though)! The bed was roomy and comfy, the bathrooms had the necessities and great water pressure, the home was super clean and updated.Our doggos LOVED that the water was right outside the back door, and they were stoked about the treats and extra balls left for them. But.... the best part.... literally silent outside. Coming from a busy area, the calm was just what we needed. Eventhough I had to work just a bit (great wifi!!) this was the most relaxing getaway we've had in a long time. We hope to have the opportunity to come back soon.

This place is a true getaway!

Loved our experience on Herron Island. I hope to be able to visit again. Tina made this booking process easy from start to finish. We had a blast enjoying everything the island had to offer (kayaking, parks, hand feeding deer, etc.) my kids did not want to leave. Highly recommend!
