The Resort
Maui Kamaole (MK) is a low-rise, low-density complex consisting of 13 two story-building complexes, spread over 23 beautifully landscaped acres. It is one of Maui’s lowest density and premier condominium resorts. Each unit is more like a townhome than a conventional condo. The resort is meticulously maintained and beautifully landscaped and is by far the nicest resort in Kihei. MK has 2 pools/2Jacuzzis, 2 tennis courts and many BBQ areas. All of the first floor units at MK are one BR units (except a few which have converted a windowless den to a 2nd BR) and all of the second floor units like ours have 2 BR’s. Most of the 2 BR units (114 of 158 = 72%) are ~1052 sq ft of living space with the remaining 28% a little over 1200 sq ft. Ours is one of the larger units (1214 sq ft) and also has significantly (~20%) larger Lanais. The 20% larger units provide a more comfortable stay. If a MK listing doesn’t mention its size, it is surely a smaller unit. Over the last 17 years we have had nothing but 5* reviews

Maui Kamaole is located in south Kihei, an area most guidebooks describe as the “Sunny Gold Coast”. It is an upscale property that bridges the casual charm of Kihei and the elegance of the many 5* resorts in Wailea that begins just two blocks away. It is close to the restaurants, shops and the championship golf courses of Wailea and Makena. The spectacular 1.5 mile long Wailea Ocean Walking Trail begins just a short walk or drive south. Across the street is one of Maui’s finest beaches, Kamaole Beach Park III, with picnic areas and a beautiful sandy beach where you can swim, snorkel, boogie board, surf, picnic or let the kids play or just relax in the sun or under one of the many shade trees. Lots of turtles frequent the waters around this beach. Kahului Airport is only 25 minutes away from our unit. The resort offers automated check-in with concierge services with brochures of activities and restaurants. The owner will provide you a code to check so you can proceed directly to our unit, with parking just a few steps away.
Our Unit
Maui Kamaole is a great resort and nearly all of the units here are nicer than those found at other resorts. However, as each unit is individually owned, furnished and maintained, there are considerable differences among units in desirability and upkeep. Additionally, MK was built in 3 phases over 13 years. Ours in the newest phase with the nicest features. Below is a list of features of our unit that we believe sets our unit apart from other MK units. We suggest you use this list to compare our unit to others at Maui Kamaole (MK) or other resorts:
• 70+% of the Maui Kamaole 2 BR units are ~20% smaller (200+ sq ft). The extra space will enhance your comfort and enjoyment
• The main spacious private lanai has a motorized 8 x 18 ft retractable awning to allow comfortable seating on even the hottest days. It has a patio table that will easily seat 6 and a comfortable reclining chaise lounge. Less than 15% of MK units have a retractable awning and most have small 4 person tables.
• In July 2023 we replaced the sofa bed, performed major maintenance re-painted much, added new artwork, etc. In Nov 2019 we replaced all the carpeting with high-quality all nylon carpeting (3X the weight of the carpeting used in most condo’s), repainted the unit and replaced or refinished all the chairs
• Over 80% of MK units have the noisy window style A/C units in the bedrooms. Ours are the much more expensive “Split” type where the noisy condenser is outside and the inside units are very quiet. If you have stayed in other MK units or motels with noisy window units you will greatly appreciate our ultra-quiet Mitsubishi Mr. Slim A/C’s
• We have a designer quality dining table that seats 6 inside and another 6-seat table on the patio. Most units have tables that only seat 4
• As it was difficult to buy quality furniture in Maui (as the on-island stores cater to rental units buying budget furniture), we bought all of our furniture at an upscale store on the mainland and had it shipped to Maui. Look closely at our photos vs those of other units to compare the differences. In Oct 2021 we upgraded the King mattress in the upstairs bedroom to a Casper foam, which is really comfortable.
• Having been in many MK 2 BR units, I can say that ours is the only one I know that has added a door to the upstairs BR for both privacy and to make it possible to keep this BR cool on hot days/nights. We also increased the A/C size in this BR from the 5000 to 9000 BTU found in nearly all units to 12,000 BTU, making it easy to cool the upstairs.
• Most 2BR units (>80%) are of the open loft type where the entire wall overlooking the Great Room is just an open lattice. Coupled with most units having no door and an underpowered window style A/C, these factors make the upstairs BR almost impossible to cool and the open wall also allows any noise from downstairs to disturb those in the upstairs BR. Ours has a window with shutters that mitigates these issues. When comparing units, look closely at the photos of the upstairs BR to see this significant difference
• Our BR’s are both equipped with new blackout drapes to let you sleep in if you desire. Most units just have shear drapes that make the BR's very light.
• Our building is the newest building at MK, 12+ years newer than most of the units. As a result it has nicer features and is in a better state of repair
• We provide high quality kitchenware including service for 6, a good selection of glassware with glasses for red & white wine, champagne, martini's etc. and plastic glasses for pool use. All kitchen utensils and silverware are of high quality with knives that are kept sharp. In addition to all the standard kitchen necessities we supply both a toaster and toaster oven, Belgium waffle maker, rice cooker, large Wok as well as a full selection of utensils (see photo’s)
• We have a new 2022 full size LG front-loading clothes washer and dryer, 3X the capacity of most MK units, making doing laundry much faster and reducing the number of loads you will need to wash.. These large capacity units also allow us to frequently wash the bedspreads and pillows, not possible with the standard washer/dryer in most MK condos. If you care about getting a unit where the bedspreads, pillows and blankets are kept clean, this is a major benefit of our unit (e.g., if a unit doesn't have a washer/drier capable of washing the bedspreads and blankets, how often do you think the owners take them to a commercial laundry to get cleaned?).
• We have 3 HDTV's (58, 55 and 37 inch) making for more pleasant viewing. Both the 58” 4K set and the 55” are Smart TV’s set up to allow you to preview all your photos and connect to streaming services. The main 2019 58” TV has a new Digital Video Recorder to allow you to record shows and watch them later. All TV's have a DVD player (2 are BluRay). Unlike most MK units which have at most basic cable package with few if any HD channels, we have over 300 channels of TV, including dozens in full HD. Why have HDTV with no HD channels, as is the case in most units which have elected for the minimum cable package?
• We have a large library of movies (280+, many kids favorites), all in HD. Most of our movies have an over 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that the movies we provide are actually worth watching, many of which are rated as in the top 100 of all time.
• We have a large CD music library featuring Hawaiian music
• We have a Sony PlayStation 3 to play games (6 games provided) and BlueRay DVD's
• We provide a huge collection of snorkel gear, boogie boards, ice chests, beach toys, tennis racquets, badminton sets, smash ball, etc to help your family enjoy your stay at no additional cost
• We have lots of infant and toddler items like a 2 portable cribs, an umbrella stroller, baby swing and bath, high chair, kids toys, kids movies, water floats and vests, small kids pool, etc
• Everything is tastefully designed and decorated
• Everything is kept new, fresh and meticulously maintained and clean. At least twice per year we perform extensive preventative maintenance to minimize any disruptions to your vacation.
• Our entire building was recently painted and was tented for termites in November 2019
• Multiple sleeping options if you have more than 4 people or young kids
• In over 14 years we have had nothing but 5* reviews (over 100). We know of no other condo at MK that can claim they have had all 5* reviews
• High speed 300 Mbps secure wireless internet (WiFi) as well as a wired Ethernet port.
• Two stereo's (one with IPod/IPhone docking station) and one with an MP3 player input with a large library of CDs (50+), including a good Hawaiian music library.
• A safe to secure your valuables
• A Digital bathroom scale, make-up/shaving mirror, hair dryers, iron and ironing board are also provided
• A large supply of books, guidebooks, jigsaw puzzles and games.
• Our sports utility closet is truly exceptional, greatly exceeding most if not all other condos. We have provided 6+ beach towels, 15+ sets of snorkels/masks/fins, 3 boogie boards, 9 sets of various size beach shoes, 4 noodles, 6 quality beach chairs, 3 beach umbrellas + 1 beach tent, lots of beach toys for kids & toddlers, 5 tennis and 3 badminton rackets, 4 beach SmashBall racquets, Frisbees, 5 different size ice chests and a full size backpack for serious hikers.
• There is a wireless telephone/answering machine with free local and long distance service (US, Canada and Mexico).

We have equipped this as our second home, used both by us and our 4 kids and 6 grandkids. Many Maui Kamaole and other condo units are owned by realtors/investors and furnished with minimum conveniences and least expensive furnishings, making a maximum return. Instead, we have tried to think of everything to make your stay (and ours) comfortable and memorable. As the locals say, “Maui no ka oi” or Maui is the best!

Nice break from winter
The good: The pictures showed the condo as it is. The guide book was spot on and the email updates from the owner was great. Good communication from him to us. The beach gear was great to have to save money on buying new stuff. Good cross breeze with all 3 balconies open. There was tide pods to wash clothes left for us, soap, dish soap, dishwashing pods and TP. Some changes needed: The kitchen was good, but needs updated pots and pans to handle a bigger family ie: bigger frying pans and pots with proper sized lids. All plates, glasses, and utensils were just fine. The upstairs bathroom toilet screams a high pitch all night and runs constantly, so it’s hard to sleep in the loft. The loft bed will break your back off and it will take about 2 hours to recover in the morning. The parking space was constantly used by a maid company for other condos being cleaned, so there were times we could not park in our assigned space and had to walk 50 yards carrying groceries or beach gear up a hill. We informed the owner but he was unable to take corrective action. The internet was out for the building and we were told to call spectrum ourselves, they couldn’t help us as we were not the account holders, so no homework was able to be done. The towels were “sour smelling” once you used them to dry off, but didn’t smell when dry. Otherwise it was a good stay.

Perfect for our family of five!
We loves our stay at Walt & Carol's condo in Kihei. We were right across from Kamaole III which was a wonderful beach to swim and watch the sunset. The property exceeded our expections. I really appreciated their large supply of kitchen utensils and pans as well as having basic condiments and spices for us to use during our stay. They had every single utensil/gadget that I needed, which has never occured in previous VRBO rentals. Also, having the large supply of beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, towels, etc. were a huge bonus to our stay! For those who haven't made plans for what to do in Maui, Walt has a ton of information with recommendations, information, brochures to keep you busy on your stay. The pool and hot tub were awesome, too! Thanks for a helping us have a wonderful Maui vacation!

Amazing stay!
Walt and Carol’s property provided an amazing 5 week stay for us. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. The entire condo is well furnished and very comfortable! We had a beautiful view from the lanai. Walt was very easy to communicate with and provided a lot of very helpful information. The Maui Kamaole complex itself is top notch!! The grounds are meticulously kept as are the pools and barbecue areas. Short walking distance to beaches and restaurants. I can’t think of anything that wasn’t provided for us. Lots of extra towels and linens as well as every beach and pool item you can think of. We would definitely stay there again when we get back to Maui. Thank you Walt and Carol!! Scott & Mary D

We are retired seniors who travel a lot. We enjoy an active lifestyle of snorkeling, biking, skiing, kayaking, hiking, dancing and playing bridge. Maui and Maui Kamaole in particular provides us easy access to all of the things we like most and allows us to do most of these things in a beautiful relaxing environment. We try to spend at least 3 months a year in our Maui condo. I enjoy doing home repairs and upgrades and at each of our 2+ visits per year we always add something and repaint the unit where needed and do a deep clean of the unit. I have an extensive (>100 items) that I check and test during each of our visits including cleaning all drains, oiling awnings, door and screen rollers, etc. to try to ensure a trouble-free stay. If you read our reviews you will see that everyone who has stayed here says this is the best equipped, best maintained and cleanest unit they have ever stayed in. We both take pleasure in making your vacation a most memorable experience. For our renters I also provide our own 110+ page list of Recommended Things To Do in Maui with emphasis on the local area. This is a comprehensive guide that contains our personal recommendations as well as compiles the recommendations of the many guide books we provide in our condo. It not only tells you who the best providers are for each activity but also tells you how to get the best price for activities and real discounts (not by attending time share presentations). Nearly all of our past renters single this guide out as having been extremely useful to them in planning their holidays without the need to buy and read several guide books. Why they chose this property

Before we purchased here, we visited all the Hawaiian islands frequently. When we came to Maui we always stayed on the west shore near Kaanapali, Kapalua or Napili, Then in Sept 2009 we tried the south part of Maui. What a difference. South Kihei has by far the best weather on the island (approx 10 – 12 inches of rain per year, whereas in Kapalua they get >28” and upcountry > 400”). Because it is so dry here, there isn’t a weather station in Kihei, and as a result if you check weather for Kihei you will actually be getting weather from somewhere north or east of Kihei where it may be raining. So if you see a report of rain in Kihei it is most often wrong. We especially enjoy the mild climate, the gentle warm trade winds, the stunning sunsets and the beautiful sandy beaches with some of the best snorkeling in the world. Championship golf courses, great shopping and restaurants are all nearby. We love the natural beauty of the islands and we want to share it with our family and friends. Many frequent travelers have rated Maui Kamaole one of the best places to stay in all of Maui. It is also one of, if not the lowest density condo units on Maui. The beautiful landscaping and maintenance done on this property makes it truly unique. But recall that each Maui Kamaole unit is individually owned and maintained so they are all furnished and maintained differently. If you read our reviews on this VRBO/Home Away site, you will see that EVERYONE who has stayed here has given us their highest marks. Not one negative comment in over 11 years. You won't find a nicer or better-maintained unit. Maui Kamaole has the highest condo association dues in Kihei, but once you visit it you will see why. It is kept beautifully. We selected our particular unit because it was in the newest building and one of the few u its having quiet A/C's, was completely empty allowing us to completely furnish it from scratch, and was in the quietest part of the complex and near the best pool.

What makes this property unique

Our spacious, 2nd floor unit at MK has a lovely balcony where we enjoy the view of the ocean to the west with its beautiful sunsets. Unlike the >80% of units that don’t have a motorized sunshade, it is possible to eat all of your in-condo meals on the shaded deck. The large patio table for 6 has all new chairs (2022) and a comfortable reclining lounge chair is also provided. Being the newest building at MK it has many features not found in other older units (most bld’s are 10 -12 yrs older). <20% of units include the quieter A/C’s in the BR’s, and even fewer have the shuttered windows and BR door to enable the A/C to cool the upstairs BR. The 1214 sq ft interior plus 265 sq ft of Lanai are 20% larger than over 70% of the other 2BR units at MK. This extra space is especially valuable if you have children or 4 or more people in your group. The extra space allows multiple options for setting up our inflatable queen bed, cribs, sleeping mat or sofa bed to enable everyone to get a good night’s sleep. Our unit is also close to the nicer of the two pools (the tropical waterfall pool and sand bottom Jacuzzi) and the tennis courts are close enough to get to easily but not so close as to be a noise distraction. Unlike most units, our parking spot is just a few steps from our entrance and the barbecues are also less than 20 ft from our entrance. We like the townhome design that means we have only one unit below us and one to the side. None of the BR’s share a wall with another unit, again providing a good sleeping atmosphere. Our unit is always maintained in like new condition: new paint, new carpet, new designer furniture, new beds, new linens, ALL NEW, and replaced as soon as they show wear!! We also employ an excellent housekeeper who keeps the unit spotless. If you want a luxury unit, not furnished like a typical rental unit, this is the place. My extensive guide, provided only to our renters, will also let you get more out of your stay.
