Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
This is a beautifully forested 8 1/2 acre property at the end of a private 250 yard drive. The rush of Deer Creek greets you as soon as you climb out of your car. Because the property slopes down through the trees to the water you can sit on the deck and look off towards the opposite ridge or make your way down the stream and hang out among the sunlit boulders by the campsite. It feels wild down there and it is. Apart from the usual deer and raccoons, we've seen foxes and otters, bobcats and weasels, and have occasionally come across bear tracks. All of this and we're only minutes from the great restaurants and bistros in town, not to mention the four movie theaters in the area.
As for the cabin itself, it is sheltered by firs and pines and sits well away from the main lodge-style home.
There is also a beautiful campsite, complete with a tent, cots and bags, beside a large, tree shaded pool. You can spend a night roughing it, then shower in the cabin and have dinner out on the deck.
But the biggest draw is the stream itself , which is filled with wild rainbow and brown trout. These are small stream fish, the largest going around 13 inches, and catch and release fly fishing is allowed. There are also three lakes within ten miles of us, not to mention the three forks of the gorgeous Yuba river (the north fork looks like New Zealand!). And just twenty minutes south of us is the South Yuba which boasts steelhead (in season) and huge rainbows and browns.
And then there is tennis. There are any number of public courts, and pros who offer lessons, and two private clubs.
And golf, a driving range only minutes away, and three big courses within twenty five minutes.
As for skiing, Sugar Bowl and Boreal Ridge are forty minute away, the North Star resort ten minutes farther up the road in Truckee.

About Scott & Janet Swanton
Scott & Janet are transplants from Santa Monica California via the Florida Keys to Nevada City. What do all these places have in common?--fishing and lots of outdoor activities. Scott is a retired screenwriter, Janet is involved in non profits that benefit children, and neither of them can sit still.
Scott & Janet Swanton purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Scott & Janet Swanton chose Nevada County
We built the main house for ourselves and the cabin for our family and friends. But much of the time the cabin sits empty and it's such a great little place we hate to see it unused.
What makes this Cabin unique
Bird watching, the nightly bat show in summer, and drinks on the deck.

Away from hubbub, surrounded by nature!!
My husband and I were looking for place that would take us away from "civilization" without driving for hours form Sacramento. This place totally fits that bill and yet downtown Nevada City is such a short distance by car that we could also enjoy the charms of that delightful town! The best of both worlds. Scott, our host, was extremely helpful but not intrusive. Would go back in a heartbeat!
This is one of the best places we’ve stayed in awhile! Really perfect in every way! Thank you, Scot.
Great accommodations in the sweet cabin in the trees. The sound of the creek and the smell of the forest made sitting on the deck with our coffee or our glass of wine surpassed our greatest desires. And our 2 yr old border collie was the happiest we’ve ever seen her. Nothing was lacking in this cabin. Scott and Janet have done a great job. Down by the creek are chairs, a shade cover and a fire pit for late night conversation. You will not be disappointed!!!
Wonderful place to stay
We loved our stay at Creekside Cabin. It was out of town in the trees, but still close enough to town to get there in minutes. Scenery was beautiful and Scott was great. He directed us to places to dine that you could not find on-line and they were great. Will definitely be back.
Perfect lil’ cabin in the woods
It had everything and more! Woke up to 4 deer peeping through the windows all to make this is experience over the top magical! The cabin itself was perfect, comfortable and had everything you could need. Thank you!
And thank you, Joni. Hope to meet you guys some time.
Best regards, Scott and Janet
Beautiful property! Lots of fun in town and at the cabin! Warm and cozy weekend gateaway! Can’t wait to go back! Thanks for having us!
This cozy cabin in the woods has everything you need and nothing you don’t!
My husband and I stayed at this quaint, charming cabin with our 3 month old son for the weekend, our first trip with the baby and my last hurrah before returning to work. Travelling with a baby is a whole new experience, and I wanted something remote enough to feel like a real get away, but well equipped and comfortable. This place fit the bill! Though close to the owners home on the property, there is a real sense of privacy. Nestled in the trees with the sound of the creek below, we were able to truly relax. A short hike down the hill brought us to the magical creek, so lush and picturesque! There is a nice bench and table to sit and take it all in. The cabin itself had a great faux fireplace heater that kept us super warm. The kitchen was perfectly equipped, and the owner Scott brought us some ice for cocktails on the deck since the mini fridge has a very small freezer :) The bed was very comfortable. Our baby slept well in his crib in the smaller bedroom. And Scott also has an excellent movie collection! Overall a truly perfect stay, even the dog loved it!! We are already planning to come back in summer to enjoy the creek when the weather is a little warmer. Many thanks to our gracious hosts!!
And many thanks to you guys, Natalie. Hope to see you sometime this summer.
