Creekside Cabin in the Woods

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This is a beautifully forested 8 1/2 acre property at the end of a private 250 yard drive. The rush of Deer Creek greets you as soon as you climb out of your car. Because the property slopes down through the trees to the water you can sit on the deck and look off towards the opposite ridge or make your way down the stream and hang out among the sunlit boulders by the campsite. It feels wild down there and it is. Apart from the usual deer and raccoons, we've seen foxes and otters, bobcats and weasels, and have occasionally come across bear tracks. All of this and we're only minutes from the great restaurants and bistros in town, not to mention the four movie theaters in the area.

As for the cabin itself, it is sheltered by firs and pines and sits well away from the main lodge-style home.

There is also a beautiful campsite, complete with a tent, cots and bags, beside a large, tree shaded pool. You can spend a night roughing it, then shower in the cabin and have dinner out on the deck.

But the biggest draw is the stream itself , which is filled with wild rainbow and brown trout. These are small stream fish, the largest going around 13 inches, and catch and release fly fishing is allowed. There are also three lakes within ten miles of us, not to mention the three forks of the gorgeous Yuba river (the north fork looks like New Zealand!). And just twenty minutes south of us is the South Yuba which boasts steelhead (in season) and huge rainbows and browns.

And then there is tennis. There are any number of public courts, and pros who offer lessons, and two private clubs.

And golf, a driving range only minutes away, and three big courses within twenty five minutes.

As for skiing, Sugar Bowl and Boreal Ridge are forty minute away, the North Star resort ten minutes farther up the road in Truckee.

About Scott & Janet Swanton

Scott & Janet are transplants from Santa Monica California via the Florida Keys to Nevada City. What do all these places have in common?--fishing and lots of outdoor activities. Scott is a retired screenwriter, Janet is involved in non profits that benefit children, and neither of them can sit still.

Scott & Janet Swanton purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Scott & Janet Swanton chose Nevada City

We built the main house for ourselves and the cabin for our family and friends. But much of the time the cabin sits empty and it's such a great little place we hate to see it unused.

What makes this cabin unique

Bird watching, the nightly bat show in summer, and drinks on the deck.

Perfect cabin "In the Woods"

  • 5 of 5

I could have looked on line for years and not found anything more perfect than this cute cabin in Nevada City. Not only was the setting perfect, but the cabin itself was just as perfect on the inside. Everything was very clean and the owners even had a little Christmas Tree inside and lighted greenery around the door. When we drove up and say everything, I knew right then it was going to be one of the most perfect Christmases ever. There were trails down to the creek, trees out of every window. The owners also had every convenience inside and all we needed was our own food. Everything else we could have possibly needed was provided. It was a wonderful experience.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

Quiet home away from home. Everything you need for a getaway. The nature around is beautiful, green and lush and felt like xmas. There is small trails to explore. The cabin has some unqiue and cute traits lije walking sticks, dog leashes, fish nets hanging on the wall wethering they are for decoration or not it adds to the adorable and warm character of this amazing stay.

Chico, California

Just what we wanted and exactly what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

Can't use enough superlatives to describe how perfectly this met our needs. Setting is gorgeous with trails to meander, sitting spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings and a Creek to soothe your overworked mind! Cabin is comfortable and "rusticly' appointed with plenty of amenities but not overdone. We will definitely return.

Thanks Scott and Janet for a wonderful 40th anniversary stay!
