Awenasa (the Cherokee word for 'my house') is a cozy cabin on a private acre of land, but with access to hiking, neighborhood lakes, mountain views, the Aska Adventure Area, Lake Blue Ridge, Carter's Lake, and other lakes within a short driving distance. The Benton MacKaye hiking trail runs through the neighborhood and there are other local hiking trails. Blue Ridge and Ellijay, GA both have great shopping, antiquing, galleries, festivals - apples in fall and peaches in summer. Horseback riding, canoeing along the Toccoa River Canoe Trail, tubing, and charming dining experiences await you during your visit. Best of all, sitting on the screened porch, watching the birds and wildlife, or enjoying a fire in the fireplace indoors or out, and relaxing in rustic decor provides a perfect getaway for a short weekend or a longer vacation.
In all this rustic paradise, you still have all the comforts of home if you like, including internet, satellite, movies, and games. Whether a romantic weekend for two, a girls' getaway, or your family enjoying the mountains, Awenasa can be your perfect mountain retreat.

My wife and I built this cabin in 2001. We have 7 dogs, 2 cats, 1 Parrot, 9 chickens, 5 horses and 1 donkey! We live in Ball Ground, GA which is about 1 hr. drive from the Cabin. We enjoy traveling with our dogs, and some of the cabin decor are antiques collected from around the country during our travels. We love the outdoors, good wine, good food, and interesting people and places.
Patti Zimmermann purchased this cabin in 2001
We chose this location because it's close to home. We enjoy the privacy of the 1 acre mountain property, however having some people close by for socializing or in case of an emergency. The city of Blue Ridge is full of little shops, and also offers the Scenic Mountain Railway. It's a very pet friendly town, with lots of activities. One of the only first run drive-in Movie Theaters in Georgia is just the fun way to end the day in town. Then, come back up the mountain and enjoy the evening on the porch with a glass of wine...
Quiet, private, peaceful, things to do nearby, comfortable, rustic, yet modern.

My fiancee and I enjoyed our Thanksgiving getaway at this secluded and peaceful cabin in the mountains. Fully equipped cabin surrounded by trees in the mountains. We saw several deer, birds, a turtle, and lots of squirrels. The screened patio gave us a peaceful area to relax in. Highly recommend for those looking for a quiet get away.
We spent the Easter weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The property is very clean and have all the amenities that you need to have a very relaxing vacation. Nice area to go for walks, or sit outside under the trees or in the comfortable enclosed patio and unwind. Very convenient to Downtown Blue Ridge, and Ellijay. Look forward to another stay.
The cabin was just the right size for the two of us and our dog. It was clean, comfortable and very nice inside and out. We would definitely consider staying there if we visit that area again.
This is a cozy little cabin way off the beaten path. Nice and remote but not too far from Blue Ridge or Ellijay if you want to pop into town, as I did for the Blues & BBQ festival.
The quiet spot and comfy furniture was perfect for my personal retreat. Patti is wonderful to deal with and very responsive to questions. Recommended!
The cabin was a great place to stay while on vacation in Blue Ridge. The kitchen was nicely equipped the beds were comfortable the scenery and the sounds are outstanding and it was a great place to unplug
In need of a rejuvenating get a way, I found "Awenasa" and it seemed like the perfect destination! Our family loves the North Georgia Mountains, they provide a cooler climate than our Florida home with plenty of opportunities to relax or pursue adventures.
The owners were very helpful as we prepared for our visit. On arrival we felt like we had come "home" to our own cabin - or at least what we would love to have one day. To say it is beautiful would be an understatement, the road to get there is a typical mountain road (winding, up hill and at times narrow) but other drivers are considerate and the destination is definitely worth it. The dining area with the windows on three sides puts you right in the middle of nature, the kitchen has all the cooking equipment you could ask for and then some. There were some condiments but I would suggest if there is something you just can't live without you take it in with you, you wouldn't want to 'run out' to the store. We ate breakfast in each morning and dinner two nights. We walked down to the lakes the first night and decided that transporting the canoe down (on the 2 wheeled cart provided) was not for us, but someone looking to do some quiet fishing or paddling on the small lakes/ponds might want to do so.
From the cabin we went White Water rafting with Rolling Thunder in McKaysville, Ga. We highly recommend them. We also went to Blairsville for a trail ride at A Step Above Stables - again we would recommend them for beginners and experienced riders alike. An afternoon spent exploring Blue Ridge was enjoyable. We spent three nights at the cabin and enjoyed s'mores at the fire pit the last night. For us the fire pit was a little inconvenient, but being on the side of the mountain it would have been tough to put it any closer to the cabin.
If you like observing the birds, be sure to take some bird seed just in case the container in the cabin is empty - the birds will come and usually within the time frame the owners include in there information!
If you are looking for a quite, relaxing retreat this is definitely the place for you! I know we would choose Awenasa if we plan another vacation in the area.
