About Hope Viviani

As a child every summer my family would vacation in a log cabin in the country. I have such wonderful memories of catching frogs and fireflies, swimming until goose bumps forced me out of the water and sitting around a fire toasting marshmallows, that when the opportunity came along for us to purchase our own log home nestled in the woods, my husband and I didn't have to think twice. At the time we were living on a parcel of land that was .10 of an acre. We were both looking for some privacy and as an avid gardener, I was excited about the opportunity to have room to really get my hands dirty. We purchased Granite Lodge and never looked back. The peace, serenity and joy it has brought us both can not be measured. Now we have gotten a bit older and are ready for something new. We are living on our boat and traveling the U.S. coastline. A new adventure for us and the opportunity to share all that we love about Granite Lodge with you.

Hope Viviani purchased this house in 1989

Why Hope Viviani chose Connecticut

We purchased Granite Lodge to live in as our primary home. I was employed in New Haven and my husband worked in the shoreline towns off of I95. Purchasing this property allowed us to have privacy, serenity and the home of our dreams with a commute of only 20 minutes. After upgrading, adding gardens and the pool friends and family started asking us if we would host their weddings, birthday parties and family reunions. Vacation requests followed shortly after and we began to use Granite Lodge as a vacation rental whenever we were traveling.

What makes this house unique

Granite Lodge is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the restaurants, museums, live theater and the many other cultural and family activities New Haven has to offer. Beach and boating are half that distance. Enjoy a Thimble Island cruise departing from neighboring Stony Creek or take a day trip to Mystic Aquarium or Mystic Seaport. Do you think you would like to try your hand at gambling? Both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos are within driving distance and offer gambling and celebrity entertainment. A day spent on the historic Essex steam train and river boat will be enjoyed by all. If shopping makes you smile it's a 20 minute trip down the shoreline to the outlet stores of Clinton Crossing. If staying close to home is your preference, just down the road is the quaint and historical town of Guilford. It is a family friendly town with beaches, parks, playgrounds, historic houses to tour, fine restaurants and fairs and events on the green throughout the summer. At Granite Lodge its all in your own backyard.

Gorgeous property!!

  • 4 of 5

The grounds, landscape and pool looks like a fabulous resort!!! House was spacious with a great kitchen!! Only issues were room A/C's did not work at times. Well water that will cut out at times. Internet was also a bit iffy. Not deal breaker. The house is old and beautiful despite its quirks.

wonderful stay for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with 12 people over a long weekend for a family wedding. The house has great character and beautiful grounds, which were a huge hit with the artists and nature lovers in our family. The region was well known for granite quarries in previous decades, and the property itself has beautiful granite displays in the bricks and pool and has a couple of coffeetable books on the local granite history which were lovely to read. It really helped create a feeling of connection with the local surroundings, I love learning about local history. The same granite was used in the Statue of Liberty!

Beyond the property, there is quite a large trail system surrounding the house so we spent a fun morning hiking through the forest. Neighboring Branford and Guilford are both quintessential New England towns with wonderful town greens to explore. The property is also located within quick access of the coastal highway, which made it easy for us to travel to nearby destinations, such as taking a Thimble Island boat tour and visiting Yale's campus.

Hope was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had while during our stay, as well as during the booking process and time leading up to our arrival. The house was well-stocked with everything we needed for kitchen, bathroom, cleaning and outdoor supplies, and both the house and surrounding property were immaculately clean and well maintained. The kitchen is very modern with a great central island, which created a wonderful gathering place for cooking and eating together as a larger group. We also had great group meals in the main dining room and the outdoor patio.

The primary goals of our weekend was for two families to get to know each other better and to relax; both goals were well accomplished in this wonderful intimate setting. We grilled on the grill, made smores by the fire pit and warmed in the hot tub, what more can you ask for! (my dad even got to watch his beloved NBA Warriors games on the TV in the library nook!) I would definitely recommend this spot to other nature lovers looking to enjoy the Connecticut coastal area. Many thanks to Hope for providing such a lovely spot and being such a responsive host!

Fabulous Fall Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our two college-aged children, my in-laws and our family dog spent a wonderful, four-day, fall weekend at Granite Lodge! Many thanks to Hope and Joe for being the perfect hosts! They made sure to make us as welcome and as comfortable as possible in their beautiful home. Despite the cool temperatures, we were able to jump in the pool, relax in the hot tub, enjoy lovely fires inside and outside (set up by our hosts, so that we simply had to light a match!), take walks around their lovely gardens and property, and partake of great meals prepared in their fully equipped kitchen. We also explored the charming town of Guilford and its environs. There are some great bistros and restaurants, as well as many quaint shops and historic places of interest. What a fabulous experience for our whole family! We highly recommend this property for your family vacation.

Great location, quiet, rustic, perfect!

  • 5 of 5

A group of of us stayed here for a New Years Weekend away and the experience was great! Hope was a very helpful host!

The house is the perfect combo of modern meets rustic. Every bed was comfortable and spacious. We had a fire going ever day and used the hot tub a few times which was really relaxing in the colder months.

the kitchen was fully equipment with anything we need to cook the food we brought with us and the kitchen table was perfect for cooking and entertaining guests at the same time. LOVED!

Will be sure to stay again!

A magical Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I with three adultchildren and two partners, plus an adorable dog spent the Thanksgiving holiday at Granite Lodge in charming Guilford, CT. The spacious house was perfect for our Thanksgiving holiday, plenty of room to gather together and space for privacy. We absolutely loved the fabulous well-equipped kitchen with lots of counters to prepare food and visit. Hope Viviani was available and helpful with the very few questions we had about procedures. We all agreed that Granite Lodge provided the perfect setting for a splendid and memorable family gathering!
