Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)
This renovated two-bedroom apartment is at the top of an 18th century building in the center of World Heritage listed Bordeaux. There is a spectacular view from the private terrace, overlooking the ancient city gate, the Porte de Bourgogne. Beyond is the Garonne river and the Pont de Pierre – the bridge over which Napoleon took his troops to Spain. You can sit with a drink in hand feeling like you are in the front row of a theatre.
Bordeaux Terrace has a mix of modern and antique furnishings and is colorful, warm and inviting. The floor area is 60 square meters in size (645 square feet).
Accommodation is for up to four people. The main bedroom has a King size bed (which can be converted into two singles), and the second bedroom has two single beds (which can also be converted to a King size bed).
There is a well equipped kitchen with an induction stove, oven and washing machine; a shower room, plus a separate toilet.
Amenities include Wifi, Cable TV, a Bluetooth speaker (Harmon Kardon) to connect with your digital device, free phone calls to most countries, books, and board games.
For hot days, there is cross ventilation and fans including a Dyson fan and air-purifier in the main bedroom. During winter, there are efficient electric heaters.
As well as the sandstone spiral staircase, there is also an elevator. Taxis can stop outside the door and the tram stop is just 200 feet (60 meters) from the apartment building. There is also a supervised parking station two minutes walk away.
The apartment building faces onto a small street. Around the corner near St Michel Basilica is an artisan baker, with a daily second-hand market held in the square outside. On Saturdays the best regional produce is available at a market in the same location, and on Sundays is the largest antique market in South-West France. On a road leading from St Michel is the daily Capucins market, where you can stock up on gourmet ingredients and feast on oysters and white wine.

About Suzanna Clarke
My husband and I are writers and love French food, wine, architecture and culture. It is a joy to be able to live for a few weeks a year in Bordeaux. When we are not there, we are happy to be able to share this experience with others.
Suzanna Clarke purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Suzanna Clarke chose Downtown
As soon as we saw this apartment we knew it was perfect. The view is breathtaking and, unusually for an apartment in an eighteenth century building, it has a terrace and a lift. The streets nearby are in a pedestrian only zone (although you can take a taxi to the door of our apartment building), so you get a hint of how it must have felt to live there hundreds of years ago - many films are shot here for that reason.
What makes this Apartment unique
In the area adjacent to our apartment are wonderful cobbled streets with restaurants, bars and cafes - including some famous ones. 100 metres away is the Gothic cathedral of Saint Michel. Every weekend in the surrounding square is the biggest open-air food market and antique and bric-a-brac market in the region. The apartment is only a short walk away from Rue St Catherine - the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe, and the tram stop is about 200 feet away.

A moderately but adequately, sized 2 bedroom apartment with great terrace views. Very clean and the lady who welcomes you is great. Located near to almost everything, including market, restaurants, bars, river and shops plus more. I would recommend this apartment and will come again.
Very Comfortable with Great Views
The apartment is a comfortable two bedroom and looks exactly as shown on the website. One of the things we like about VRBO rentals is the feeling like you’re in a real neighborhood. This apartment certainly is that. The main room is large, with lots of light and is convenient for cooking, dining in and relaxing. We were two couples in our mid ‘60s. We alternated dining out and cooking in. There are many small groceries within 5 minutes and a supermarket about 10 minutes walk. A plus was that a food caddie was provided. The patio is delightful – we used it extensively to sitting out with wine or coffee and watch the city go by below. Old city Bordeaux is across the street – fun to explore and find impromptu cafes/bistros. No dishwasher. No air conditioning although we weren’t uncomfortable even in mid July having the cross ventilation on the top floor. Good access to the old part of Bordeaux. Recommended.
Loved the apartment and Bordeaux
After spending 3 weeks in the countryside I wasn't quite prepared for coming across the bridge into Bordeaux Centre. But after an evening's rest in this wonderful apartment in a beautiful old building I was prepared to explore Bordeaux. Cross over Victor Hugo Blvd and in 5 minutes you are in the beautiful old center. Walk in the other direction and you are in a vibrant neighborhood with a wonderful Sat. open market surrounded by cafes and with street performers. Yes the apartment has everything you need especially if you want to cook some meals. Best cookware and sharp knifes we have ever found. Charlotte who welcomed us was extremely patient with my travel grumpiness. Best restaurants Le Petit Commerce for lunch and Karl's for breakfast. Fromagerie Deruelle about 5-10 mins. has fresh pasta, meats, cheeses, cheesecake to take home. Walk along the river at night. Gorgeous. Walk on the reflecting pool. Everyone is extremely friendly.
Excellent location, everything great plus nice terrace.
Spent a week here and loved it. Fourth floor, but we never used stairs as small elevator available. Two bedrooms but we only needed the one. Well stocked (soap, laundry detergent, kitchen stuff), spacious and a great terrace with a great view. Updated plumbing and good cross-ventilation. Absolutely great location - it didn't look like it when we first arrived, but it really is a great location, near everything and safe. Garage is just around the corner and parking was 50 euros for the week. Minutes walks from museums, opera house, St. Katherine St, etc. Loads of good restaurants within 15 minutes walk. Carrefour grocery down the street. Only small suggestions for improvement are a coffee-maker (we used the French-press, but it's more of a production) and we did battle mosquitoes. Charlotte said they are getting screens installed, which must have been a project because no one around seems to have them but it's a great idea. Very quiet location - no noise ever while we were there. Nicely decorated. Although no clothes dryer, the spin on the washer worked great and stuff dried quickly on the rack. If we come back to Bordeaux we would stay there again, no question. Very well managed and responsive.
I am glad these guests enjoyed their stay. An update - there are now insect screens on all the windows and one on the door to the terrace, so mosquitoes in summer are no longer a problem.
A small group of us were traveling to France and Spain and spent three days at the Bordeaux Terrace. It was a fantastic home base for us as we toured the city close to public transportation and shops and dining. We enjoyed getting to know the city and then heading back to the lovely accommodations. Suzanne and Charlotte were wonderful hosts and I would highly recommend this property!
The Traveling In-Laws
We enjoyed our stay at the Bordeaux Terrace which is centrally located with easy accessibility to restaurants and shopping by walking. The parking was not a problem for us. The roof top terrace was very nice for relaxing with a glass of wine and nibbling on cheese after a day of seeing the sights. We also took the open top bus through town which is worth while for resting your feet. All the rooms were roomy, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was nice and it worked very well to have a separate toilet room. Charlotte was very informative and helpful. She met our needs. We would recommend this apartment. The elevator was nice, too, for transporting our luggage.
Day trips an be made to vineyards and chateaux in the Bordeaux region; the seaside towns of Arcachon and Cap Ferret are nearby.
