About the property

Oceanfront House, 4 Bedrooms(1-King, 3-Queens, 1-Bulkbed) 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

OCEANFRONT Blondie West is the west side of a duplex on three living levels. Located on a 'back key' lot with a very short walk to the ocean via a PRIVATE walkway and dune deck. This home has ALOT of great amenities, INCREDIBLE views and continues to have families that return year after year for a memorable family get-away. Don and Janice (owners of Blondie West)have remodeled and furnished BLONDIE WEST as a 'home away from home.' The 'island feel' is designed for your comfort as your family and friends 'kick back', relax and experience oceanfront living.

Imagine waking up to the sound of the sea and view the sunrise over the ocean as dolphin amuse you with their playful charm. Decisions at the beach? Which deck to sit on and enjoy your morning coffee. Stroll along the wide beaches or relax in a rocking chair with a good book (Blondie West has an extensive book library). It's just the beginning of another spectacular day at Blondie West where there's 'not a worry in the world. Life is good today!'

When you want to take a break from beach activities, enjoy a round of horseshoes on our regulation size horseshoe pit. Hungry? Thirsty? Fire up the large BBQ grill and have a drink at our custom built TIKI BAR. Newly expanded ground level sun deck w/ picnic table is easily accessible to lower level kitchen. Blondie West has TWO FULL KITCHENS. The upper floor kitchen has a seperate wine cooler with access to front and rear deck.

For those that want to explore the island, there are plenty of activities away from the beach to please and accomdate everyone in your group. For the active: bicycling (rentals available on island), golf, kayak and boat rentals, mini-golf, amusement park, horseback riding, volleyball, water park, driving range, skating, off-shore fishing, kite-flying. For the sightseer and shopper: Waterfront Morehead City, Beaufort waterfront, Swansboro waterfront shops and antiques, Emerald Isle shops, North Carolina Aquarium and more.

Want to try some local seafood? Don and Janice have compiled menus from various restaurants so that you can check out the menu before you go. Ice Cream at the beach? Emerald Isle has several ice cream parlors and if you want ice cream at home, Blondie West has provided your own banana split bowls!!!

As the sun sets, the Blondie West TIKI BAR remains open! Let the games begin in our gameroom that contains a pool table, game/card table and numerous board games. What about a movie? Blondie West has an extensive DVD/VHS library. Each bedroom has it own TV/DVD/VHS player.

One of our most favorite places at Blondie West is our dune deck. Unwinding with a cocktail as we watch the breathtaking sunsets change to a blanket of shimmering stars. Here ends another great day at the beach!

If you have to bring work to the beach, Don and Janice have provided a small desk with a printer/fax/copier, wireless internet access and FREE long distance service. Feel free to call or email your friends from our home and tell them about your GREAT vacation at Blondie West!

About The Owner

The owners of Blondie West have rented many beach houses over the years and take great pride in maintaining Blondie West as 'a home away from home.' They love the beach and have an 'eye for detail' that welcomes your family to their home. As a child, Don's father was statiioned at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. But it wasn't until 2003 that the owners discovered Blondie West on the beautiful Crystal Coast. God Bless America!

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

Why The Owner chose Central Coast

After vacationing at beaches along the east coast, our family discovered Emerald Isle, NC in 2003 and immediately fell in love with the relaxing small beach town atmosphere. Emerald Isle is a VERY family-oriented beach! The wide and uncrowded beach allows families the opportunity to actually play games. Being an active family, this was very important to us. We had never been to a beach where we saw so many families playing together. Dolphin watching from our deck, walking on the flat beaches and watching beautiful sunsets are some of our favorite things to do at Blondie West. We purchased Blondie West on our first visit to Emerald Isle so that our family could continue to enjoy the 'island life' of this small beach town. As owners of Blondie West, we have added a new amenity each year (i.e. large 'island' tiki bar, expanded sun deck, official size horseshoe pit, upgraded colorful kitchen, bathroom and flooring) for your family vacations. Hope to see you at Blondie West!

What makes this house unique

Some of our favorite activities while relaxing at Blondie West include: surf fishing, jogging on the flat beach, looking for seashells, enjoying the beautiful sunsets, playing horseshoes, flying kites, building sandcastles and enjoying time together with family and friends.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Wonderful Week at an Oceanfront home

  • 4 of 5

This house was large enough to accommodate 8 adults and 2 children (ages 5 and 1). There is a separate apartment in the basement which worked well for the family with the little ones. The kitchen was well stocked with whatever you need to cook for a large family. The location was good, the beds were comfy, it was clean which is a plus at the beach! Lots of steps so it's not recommended with someone with health issues or bad knees or hips. They did have plenty of baby gates to block off the steps from the baby. The downside was the clothes dryer didn't work very well (usually had to go through 2 cycles), the bed pillows need to be replaced, they were very flat. We stayed in the small room (crews quarter) with the bunk beds and queen bed, it was very crowded and warm with the door closed, could use a ceiling fan if they could figure out how to do it with the bunk beds. We rented through Century 21 and we weren't very happy with their customer service. I assume going through vrbo would be better. We didn't have internet service even after repeated calls and promises to send someone out. We chose the linen service and didn't receive enough wash cloths, after repeated calls about this, received hand towels instead. So all in all, the house was great but the rental agency could use some work.

Owner's Response: We are very happy to hear that the above guest had a “great” vacation at Blondie West (B.W.) & that they were pleased with the : Size/cleanliness of our home, well-stocked kitchen, oceanfront location, comfortable bedding, provision of baby gates for toddler’s safety & separate lower level apartment w/ full kitchen. To address concerns: Dryer Efficiency – Dryers at an oceanfront beach house are used a lot & require periodic cleaning. When a guest shares a concern about the efficiency of our dryer, a maintenance check is scheduled to clean out excess sand. A phone call to set up a maintenance check would resolve this concern. Pillows – B.W. has 20 + pillows of various sizes & firmness. We have provided a variety for our guest’s selection. Ceiling Fan In Bunk Bed Room – Due to the size of this bedroom, it is against county code to install a ceiling fan that would be within reach of a bunk bed. As owners, we have complied with the county code for the safety of our guests. Internet Service – During the above guest’s stay at our home, there was an “island outage” as a result of numerous thunderstorms during the week. The internet outage was not directly related to our home’s internet service; it was a widespread outage that was handled by the cable company. The rental agency “sited” in the above review had no control over the situation. Linen Service – Linen service for our guests is set up between the guest & an individual linen company (a third party service). B.W. owners are not part of this contractual agreement. Linen supplies are allotted based on the # of bedrooms. If a guest would like more than the allotted amount, a request is required to the linen company before check-in. In closing, after 13 years of B.W. rentals (average 20 rentals a year), this is the FIRST negative review we have received. As owners, we attempt to call our guests every week to make sure that everything is working at the house & to answer any questions our guests may have about our home etc. 50 + positive reviews taken from our guest book can be found on this website. To view these reviews, scroll down to the MANAGER INFORMATION section. Look for “Guestbook Comments from the Property Manager.” We hope that our response to the above items have provided more detailed information regarding the concerns expressed in this review. If anyone is interested in renting our home, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to call you & answer all of your questions.

Dream Spot!

  • 5 of 5

I celebrated my birthday with my friends at this beautiful home. I can't begin to express how many 'little extras' the owners have included in this home. We were ALL very impressed from the Corn Hole directions to the large movie collection. Even though the hurrican came while we were here, we were still endlessly entertained with the many amenities. I have rented MANY homes in EI, and this just became my favorite! I hope to make it an annual trip on my birthday. The owners went ABOVE and BEYOND for this property. With all this being said, it also has the perfect location to enjoy EI night life and dining. It was only a five minute drive to the club AND you could walk to an amazing restaurant.. I can't wait to return!

Kids & In-Laws Surprise Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I surprised my 8yr & 11yr old girls, hubby, & his parents! Great couple to work with while planning our trip.

Our family enjoyed the FAMILY Friendly home very much!! The Balconies on every Level was very accomadating for inquiring little minds, and there was enough room for our "TWEEN" & her need of space. We took advantage of watching the Dolphins off the balcony porch and strolling the Beach in the mornings. Our family morning stroll revealed a Turtle Nest and we were sorry we couldn't stay to see the hatchlings. Kids played on the beach, Family CORN HOLE games in the evening, girls used the Tiki bar to act as Waitress, and we used the Beach supplies supplied, but they did have alot wear, so we bought some while we were there and left for the next arrivals.

We did visit the Aquarium as well and enjoyed it on a rainy day, drove into Beaufort, NC to have lunch, and Ben & Jerrys on the way home was a hit almost repeated every night :)

Kitchen was well equipped for us a family of 6. The dryer was not working properly: had to run 3xs & items still wet, but I used the balcony to line dry but need clothes pins, so add those to your luggage. I cleaned out the dishwasher as it was sounding extremely loud &thud noise: I found many plastic debris (sippy cup lid/plugs) and broken glasses, worked much quieter after I removed debris. The downfall was the musty smell in the lower level, but was overall great fun.

***Watching the COAST GUARD drills at night off the beach was amazing and the Helicopter drills kept you guessing. It was a beautiful sunset down the Coast Guard Base.

Would stay there again and look forward to visiting again!

Great times at this home.
