About this property
Cozy Guest Cottage Nextdoor to My House, Private Pond, Picnic Area & Firepit
Immaculately kept and furnished guest cottage next door to the main house on a 10-acre property with a private pond a short walk downhill past the main house. In summer, enjoy the private pond with sandy beach and bottom for great swimming, kayaking for kids, rowboat, rafts and floats. Volleyball, badminton and other lawn activities. Hike, bike, or walk to enjoy and the beautiful mountain streams, views, and hiking trails. In winter, short drives to four nearby downhill ski slopes: Sugarbush, Mount Ellen, Mad River Glen, and Middlebury Snow Bowl and two nearby cross-country ski centers: Rikert at the Middlebury College Breadloaf campus and Blueberry Lake in Warren.
Ideal for family of four or romantic couple. Guests under age 21 must be accompanied by at least one adult over age 25. FIBER OPTIC INTERNET service. Check-in time: after 4:00 PM; check-out time: before 11:00 AM. Sorry, no smoking and no pets.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR SUMMER: August is usually drought time in Central Vermont when streams have dried up and the water level in ponds is low. The swimming end of my pond is normally 14 feet deep, so even when the water level is down three or four feet the pond is still swimmable.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINTER: a 4-wheel drive vehicle, or at least a front-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires, is necessary to avoid problems on steep local roads.

About the host
Hosted by Mary Falcon
Here's the story of who I am and how I—a born and bred New Yorker—ended up in Vermont. To briefly escape the hubbub of New York in 2002, I spent two weeks with my best cousin in Vermont. For months after I returned to NY I dreamed of living in Vermont. A year later, thanks to the Internet, I was able to make my dream come true. I bought the property right next door to my cousin's place and moved to Vermont for good. A 25-year veteran of the higher education publishing industry, I no longer have to live where the company I work for is located. I telecommute.
Why they chose this property
I love participating in the small town life of Granville. And I love it up here by my lake —clear and blue in summer, iced over in winter—in the fresh Vermont air, among the snow covered mountains and hiking trails. But what I love most about my life here is that I can work and vacation in the same place. In the summer I can swim in my private secluded lake, work in my vegetable and flower gardens, go for long walks, and still put in a respectable day’s work at the computer. I work longer hours in the winter, but still get plenty of exercise walking, show shoeing, and snow shoveling. My son and his family love it here in summer, but even more in winter as they are avid skiers. So I always seem to have family visits on the horizon.
