Beautiful Ocean Front Cottage! Right on the beach! Charm Inside, Beauty Outside.

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Beautiful, completely restored Beach Front home. Great curb appeal, but even better view from the ocean side. Private stairs to the beach. Full view patio doors in great room open to let in the sea breezes. Beautiful wood floors throughout. Great surfing right from the backyard. Several additional great surf breaks in short walking distance. Surf fishing from the backyard. Great kayaking. Volleyball area in the cove.

This home is a beautiful cottage built in the early 1900's and has been completely restored and updated with all of the creature comforts you need to relax and make this your get away destination. This is truly a great cottage, but there is no question that being on the beach makes all of the difference in the world! You don't have to walk the kids to the beach! They are there! The hot water shower is right there in the backyard, steps away from the beach. If you have stayed in a home on the beach, you understand! If you haven't, now is your opportunity!

The central coast is the up and coming wine region of California. Templeton, Paso Robles, Edna Valley and even Cayucos and Cambria offer many destination wineries to tour, taste and buy.

If you are not into wine touring, there are so many activities right outside your door. You may decide to park the car and just stay put for the week.

About Lauren Bowin

My mom grew up in this little coastal town and I always wanted a vacation home here. Fortunately my native Texan wife, opted for a vacation home here vs. the Texas panhandle. We love the place and enjoy it when it isn't being enjoyed by others!

Lauren Bowin purchased this house in 1998

Why Lauren Bowin chose Cayucos

Small town with a small town feeling. Great beaches. Great hiking. Great surfing. Beautiful central coast.

What makes this house unique

Stress free. We walk to Morro Bay, about 5.5 miles to the south at least once a week when we stay here. We kayak and surf as much as we can. We walk 1 mile to the north to downtown Cayucos and hang out at Top Dog Coffee in the morning with the locals. Great dining at Cafe Della Via and the Cass House, right down town.

On a practical side, being right on the beach and having the private beach access with a great cove at the foot of the steps is a huge bonus. Cuts way down on the logistical issues of packing for beach activities! Hot water outside shower was probably one of the 'smartest' things we added!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lauren, Just got back to Walnut Creek after a wonderful stay at your house. Everything was perfect except that three nights was too short of a trip!!! We have a new favorite beach house in Cayucos and that is yours!!! Hope to rent again. Mike

Ten thumbs up!

My husband, three daughters (5, 3 and 3 months old) had a gloriously beautiful, peaceful, and restful time at Journey’s End. Thank you Lauren and David for sharing your special spot and for being such gracious hosts to your guests!! We hope to be back sooner rather than later!

The perfect getaway for family and friends to enjoy each other amidst the glorious beauty of nature. Journey’s End has all of the amenities of home, sprinkled with the sound of waves, a walk on the beach just outside the door, and dolphins putting on a show. Whether you’re looking for peace and quiet or an activity filled vacation, it’s the perfect location!

Family Vacation

This cottage is everything you would imagine a cottage by the sea to be. It was quaint and charming and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The beach was so much fun, we collected sea dollars every afternoon and the kids played in the water for hours. It is a great place for both relaxing and fun. Wonderful location close to shopping and a lot of great day trips to places close by. Don't miss the Brown Butter Cookie Company when you are in town, it's a treat not to miss! I would recommend this rental highly!

Wonderful stay on the beach in Cayucos

  • 5 of 5

Decades ago I would walk down Pacific Avenue in Cayucos and imagine living in one of the Cayucos beach houses. One of my "favorites" was a charming old cottage called Journey's End. Much to my delight this is the very house my husband found for us to share with his brother and wife on their trip to California last week.

When you enter the street side gates of Journey's End you enter an enchanting garden with flowers and fountains and places to sit and read and relax out of the ocean wind. The cottage itself is fixed up comfortably with two bright bedrooms with big garden windows, and a loft (perfect for short people) upstairs with three beds. There are two bathrooms in the house and everything was clean and neat. The galley kitchen had everything we needed, although best for one cook at a time. We were greeted with flowers and wine on the dining room table. And the living room opens out to the Pacific Ocean in all its wonder and glory. Sitting on the patio, you feel like you are right on the beach. Steps go down from the patio to the beach where children play in the sand and people fish off the shore and surf in the waves. We were lulled to sleep each night by the waves and fresh sea air. The weather was perfect and of course whether you have years of memories of times in Cayucos like I have, or are a newcomer as our relatives were, Cayucos is the perfect little beach town. Thanks Lauren and Dave for your house (and for not trying to make it big and imposing like some other beach houses, but keeping it just RIGHT! We loved our time at Journey's End and will definitely try to come stay again the next time we are down the Central Coast.

Beach Front Property that will not disappoint and will leave you relaxed & refreshed!

  • 5 of 5

This is my 2nd time to stay at this location and I give it a 5+++++ Rating!!! It has everything you need to hide out from society with quiet time focused on relaxing, eating, sleeping, walking the beach, watching the amazing sunsets each and every night! This location is phenomenal in all it provides in one spot. Plenty of relaxing areas in the front of the house, side and back patio. You can't go wrong staying here a handful of nights or a week plus! If you feel you need a little bit of society, you can walk to town or ride the bike and tour the famous cookie shop in town. But if you want to stay put like I did, you can eat all your meals in with all the necessary things to continue to be a foodie and cook gourmet! Everything was in working order. You will love the couple that owns this place and they might even let you cook them brunch as a Thank You. I promise, once you have been will be a fight to see when you can go back!

Best gift to ourselves

  • 5 of 5

Journey's End surpassed our expectations. My wife and I loved the ten days seeing the Pacific Ocean as our view. Plus being just a few steps down to the beach is this cottage's best kept secret. French doors take you out to a spacious deck with plenty of seating, even an outdoor fire pit. Every night we couldn't wait for the different sunsets. Add two other outdoor seating areas in the front garden for more gathering spaces. Inside we felt so comfortable, like home. Great living room open to dining area with a very creative and useful coffee/entertaining counter with small sink. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen for cooking our dinners. The attention to detail by the owners is truly appreciated, very comfortable beds, great shower and two gas fireplaces to take off the chill, especially in January. Cayucos has the charm of small town friendliness, local restaurants and shops, a nice change from a big city. We enjoyed daily excursions visiting towns from where we lived when going to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Thank you David and Lauren for a wonderful and relaxing stay at Journey's End.
