About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Beautiful, completely restored Beach Front home. Great curb appeal, but even better view from the ocean side. Private stairs to the beach. Full view patio doors in great room open to let in the sea breezes. Beautiful wood floors throughout. Great surfing right from the backyard. Several additional great surf breaks in short walking distance. Surf fishing from the backyard. Great kayaking. Volleyball area in the cove.

This home is a beautiful cottage built in the early 1900's and has been completely restored and updated with all of the creature comforts you need to relax and make this your get away destination. This is truly a great cottage, but there is no question that being on the beach makes all of the difference in the world! You don't have to walk the kids to the beach! They are there! The hot water shower is right there in the backyard, steps away from the beach. If you have stayed in a home on the beach, you understand! If you haven't, now is your opportunity!

The central coast is the up and coming wine region of California. Templeton, Paso Robles, Edna Valley and even Cayucos and Cambria offer many destination wineries to tour, taste and buy.

If you are not into wine touring, there are so many activities right outside your door. You may decide to park the car and just stay put for the week.

About Lauren Bowin

My mom grew up in this little coastal town and I always wanted a vacation home here. Fortunately my native Texan wife, opted for a vacation home here vs. the Texas panhandle. We love the place and enjoy it when it isn't being enjoyed by others!

Lauren Bowin purchased this house in 1998

Why Lauren Bowin chose Central Coast

Small town with a small town feeling. Great beaches. Great hiking. Great surfing. Beautiful central coast.

What makes this house unique

Stress free. We walk to Morro Bay, about 5.5 miles to the south at least once a week when we stay here. We kayak and surf as much as we can. We walk 1 mile to the north to downtown Cayucos and hang out at Kelly's Coffee in the morning with the locals. Great dining with Hoppe's and the Cass House, right down town.

On a practical side, being right on the beach and having the private beach access with a great cove at the foot of the steps is a huge bonus. Cuts way down on the logistical issues of packing for beach activities! Hot water outside shower was probably one of the 'smartest' things we added!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lauren, Just got back to Walnut Creek after a wonderful stay at your house. Everything was perfect except that three nights was too short of a trip!!! We have a new favorite beach house in Cayucos and that is yours!!! Hope to rent again. Mike

Charming cottage at ocean' edge

  • 5 of 5

My wife, my daughter and her boy friend, my son and his wife and 2 young daughters, we all ventured for our first visit to Cayucos. Funky, delightful, relaxed, friendly city charmed us. But the winner was the beach cottage where we stayed. Clean, comfortable cottage is perched on a small hill with a very short stairway down to the beach. Stunning setting with lovely patio where we enjoyed meals as we watched dolphins swim by during the day, and marveled at glorious sunsets. You won't be disappointed if you are lucky enough to stay in this cottage and enjoy the beauty and casual ease of Cayucos. We will return!

Perfect Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Journey's End for our Thanksgiving break. The house was perfect for our family with the upstairs bedroom for the kids. The location is great with the steps down to the beach and the house has everything you would need for a full day out on the sand. Would recommend the Journey's End to anyone and can't wait to come back.

Perfect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is not just situated perfectly to enjoy the beach, it has charm and beauty and wonderful touches to make it feel like home while you are there. The double doors in the living area that open to the patio and ocean view were my favorite feature. We could enjoy the sound and smell of the ocean all day long! We could watch for whales, dolphins and seals from right inside the home. The filtered water and keurig coffee machine were great details - and the bottle of wine a wonderful welcome. Thanks for a perfect family vacation!

What a special place. As soon as you walk in you are confronted with the Ocean's beauty. The house is very clean, nicely decorated and airy. The location is perfect to visit Big Sur, SLO's famous farmers market or the Hearst Castle. Our daughters loved the upstairs loft, which gave them there own space. The owners were great to work with and even overnighted my keys which I forgot. Can't say enough, hopefully we make it back.

Spectacular ocean view, beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot describe the beauty that awaits you at the cottage. You walk in the door and are awed by the ocean view. The home was beautiful and comfortable. The outside gardens were blooming and created a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the beauty. The outside deck was our place to rest every afternoon. I could sit for hours looking at the ocean. Easy access to the ocean. We enjoyed our walks every evening. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Family Beach Time

  • 5 of 5

Have always wanted to rent this property....have walked past in for many SO glad we finally did....There were 4 of husband & myself...mother-in-law & sister-in-law.........Plenty of room.....When we arrived everything was clean & in order....beach chairs provided, along with beach towels (we brought our own beach towels & chairs). Also brought our own Espresso Machine....did not know was already provided....used it every day. Accommodations were comfortable, clean & perfect for us.....Not too was just what a beach house should be....Everything was in good working order. We cooked almost every meal at the house....after we arrived we didn't really need to go anywhere, beach was perfect...patio comfortable & good size...ate a couple of meals at the outside table....nice. Beds were comfortable, linens nice (although master bedroom bed is kind of squeaky...) If there would be only 1 issue, it would be that the master bedroom could you use some outside window...etc.... There are a couple of step ups/step downs, so I would not recommend for those who have walkers or wheel chairs...&...if you have older ones in your should probably keep an eye on them...We had a 91 year old (mind you she is in great shape), but I kept an eye on her just in case. All was well & she had a fantastic time. Owners were a pleasure to deal with from day 1. I want to thank the cleaning crew for how nice it was when we got there....I know it was not totally necessary to clean as thoroughly as I did when I left, (even washed & dried all the towels), but wanted it to be nice & easy for them when they arrived to prepare for the next guest. I would ABSOLUTELY rent again....It was everything the site said it was.....Thank you for such a lovely stay.....Oh yeah Lauren...thanks for the lovely arrival card & wine....very sweet...
