About the Property
Mt Holly, VT Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6 with Breathtaking Views
Our cottage is on Lake Ninevah-- one of Vermont's best kept secrets. This large, pristine lake is coveted for its beauty and tranquility. Mountains and forests surround the lake and only a dozen cottages dot the expansive shoreline of this spectacular lake. A 5 mph motor boat restriction makes Lake Ninevah perfect for those who love to swim, canoe, kayak, sail, windsurf, fish or just relax. Our cottage is on a private road bounded by lovely woods. Hike or bike right from the cottage door.
Escape to this nature retreat where opportunities abound for watching wildlife and magnificent sunsets.
Enjoy the gentle sandy access to the lake and go for a refreshing swim or simply delight in wading in the shallow, crystal-clear water by the shore. Go fishing or boating from the private dock. Sunbathe and relax on the south-facing lawn or sunlit porch.
Perfect cottage for leaving your cell phone and stress at home and relaxing with all the beauty of Vermont. You'll enjoy the conveniences of home in the midst of a lakefront paradise.

Our cottage is nearby to a lot of Vermont attractions. Ludlow, which is just a few miles away, offers fine restaurants, quaint shops, championship golf, an adventure park, tennis courts, skate park, free outdoor music concerts, hiking trails (including a trail to the top of Mt. Okemo or you can drive to the top of Mt. Okemo for breathtaking views), Fletcher Farm School for Arts as well as a supermarket, drugstore and other services to meet your needs. A bit further to the south is Chester -- known for its many fine antique stores and horseback riding stables. The picturesque town of Woodstock is nearby and is home to many fine gift shops and art galleries as well as the living history Billings Farm & Museum. Weston is to our west and is home to the famous Vermont Country Store and the Weston Playhouse. A bit north of us is Plymouth and its 130 acre Calvin Coolidge historic site. About 30 minutes to the north is Rutland where you'll find a movie theater complex and shopping malls. Manchester, a pretty town about an hour south of the cottage, is well known for its many designer factory outlets. You'll find great dining only about 2 miles away at the historic Echo Lake Inn and Harry's Cafe. Also within hiking distance is the Crowley Cheese Factory which offers tours and demonstrations about making cheese the old-fashioned way.
About the owner: My husband and I love the peace, beauty and wonder of nature. Naturally, we fell in love with Lake Ninevah.
Why the Owner Chose Mount Holly, VT, USA:
Lake Ninevah is like heaven on earth. There are only about a dozen cottages on this large lake because preservationists took down cottages and preserved the surrounding land. It's like vacationing in a nature preserve with the conveniences of home. Relax on the lawn or stroll right into the water from the sandy beach or wade at the water's edge while the water gently laps over you-- unlike other vacation spots where the access to the water is via rock ledge. As pristine Lake Ninevah is only about 12 feet deep at it's deepest part, the water temperatures are often delightfully comfortable. Leave the traffic and stress at home. Our cottage is on a beautiful and wooded private road where you can walk or jog amidst the peace & quiet of nature. People who visit Lake Ninevah describe the lake and their experience as 'enchanting' and 'magical.'
The Unique Benefits at this House:
What others have written about Lake Ninevah: Lake Ninevah is a well-kept secret in the Eastern Vermont Gateway region. Only about a dozen cottages grace the shore of the 170-acre lake. The rest is protected land under the care of the Ninevah Foundation, a local land conservancy. This pristine lake is only shared by non-owners via the small public boat launch. A few owners of cottages on Lake Ninevah have been generous enough to rent their properties by the week. All guard their seclusion jealously. Here, they can swim, fish, paddle, windsurf and sail in near isolation. The lake has a 5 m.p.h. speed limit imposed, the only sound may be the quiet whir of a trolling motor as background for the call of the resident loons. With a maximum depth of 12 feet, the water warms quickly, inviting even the most skittish bather to dive joyfully in. Canoeing or kayaking the lake is a special treat as so much of the shoreline remains in its natural state. Anglers lucky enough to discover Lake Ninevah enjoy fishing for small mouth bass, sunfish, rock bass, pickerel, pike, large mouth bass and rainbow trout. The private roads around the lake offer plenty of leisurely walks with binoculars or camera and are great for mountain biking. Ninevah Road itself is highly recommended as a scenic bicycling tour. Visiting Lake Ninevah is only as difficult as finding a vacation rental vacancy. Few private self-catering rentals are offered directly on the lakefront. So, invest in a great set of binoculars and come looking at Lake Ninevah. Let Lake Ninevah share its secrets with you and your family.
