Good but needs some TLC

  • 3 of 5

The house is nice, large and comfortable. We were pleased to spend a week there. It is a beautiful area. We hiked and spent time exploring on 4WD trails. However, someone needs to do a little maintenance on the property. The driveway up to the house is extremely steep and covered with an extremely deep layer of 1 inch crushed rock. The problem is that many holes have been dug into the driveway so that a 2 wheel drive family car has a tough time going up the driveway, bouncing and throwing rocks. Its even a rough ride with our 4Runner in 4 wheel drive. Grading the driveway would help a lot! (BTW, we spent the week out on local 4WD trails like Mosquito Pass.) The propane grills had not been inspected or cleaned for a LONG time and reeked of rancid grease. Firing them up for a few hours (dasys?) would help a lot. Communications with the property manager were only fair, and we were told that there was only a charcoal grill at the house. So we brought our own propane grill, and we were glad that we did. The whirlpool tub in the master bedroom left an orange ring around the tub when we used it. Cleaner needs to be put into the tub and the whirlpool run for a LONG time!

Amazing vacation, perfect for our kids!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks this summer with our 4 children, and it was the perfect vacation for us! There is a brand-new playground area that the kids spent hours playing on, and the beautiful wooded area made for endless happy exploring. We enjoyed up-close encounters with chipmunks, rabbits and hummingbirds, and saw lots of other wildlife in the area.

The house is beautifully decorated and maintained, with a wonderful kitchen area that made it easy to do our meals. There were lots of toys and games for the kids to play with, and we made good use of the portacrib that they provided for our use. Many nights we roasted marshmallows over the fire and the sunsets were breathtaking. At night there were the most spectacular views of the stars I have ever seen. We took advantage of the many activities and places to visit in the area, including horseback riding, fishing, the children's museum in Breckenridge, hiking trails, and fun local restaurants in Fairplay.

We couldn't have asked for a nicer home to stay in or a more relaxing and enjoyable mountain getaway. We certainly plan to come back again in the future!!

Beautiful Home, Awe-Inspiring Views!!

  • 5 of 5

We vacationed in this home for a week in July, 2012 with another family and had a wonderful time!! The house provided everything we needed and more than we imagined. We had a breathtaking view from the deck which we enjoyed every morning and evening. The house is beautifully decorated in a western theme and has all the amenities needed or wanted. The pictures do not do the home justice! It is conveniently located for experiencing Colorado and all it's outdoor beauty and activities. We went mountain climbing, horse back riding, white water rafting and shopping. We saw several ski areas that would be great in the winter. The owner is a pleasure to work with and a great resource for area activities. We highly recommend this property as a fabulous vacation destination!!

We had a delightful time. Spectacular views. Beautifully appointed. Has a computer, w/WiFi, full TV so you can enjoy all the conveniences you would have at home. The appliances in the kitchen are new and the washer and drier will meet your needs. The fireplace and the cabin feel will make your stay restful and relaxing.

If you’re looking for a peaceful weekend getaway, this is the cabin to choose! We stayed here last weekend with a large group of friends and it was just the escape to the mountains we were hoping to find. However, there was nothing rustic about this spacious, gorgeous cabin. It held a very clean, yet homey feel. I would definitely recommend this cabin and plan to visit again soon.

I had no idea what to expect before I arrived at the cabin. When I did, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the cabin affordable, it was also breathtaking. All of our guests were blown away by how beautiful, clean and accommodating the cabin was. It is truly evident that Second Home Second Chance Vacation Rentals & Property Mgmt. takes pride in their rentals. I cannot wait to share this amazing cabin with all my friends and family in the future.

The Middle Fork of the South Platte River is just across the road. There are some public fishing areas available for use. This is a fabulous fishing area. There is also a large ranch across the highway that offers horseback riding, cook-outs and much more for your enjoyment. The 2 acre lot offers hiking right behind the home and views of white-capped mountains in every direction. The lot is heavily treed as well so you have the solitude and the beauty of the various mountain ranges including the Continental Divide and the Collegiate Mountains to the South.
