Luxury home with 5 private bed/bath suites and a game room! (Sleeps 13)
We have an absolutely ideal location... amazing views and convenience too.
AND, we just completed a MAJOR update and now the home has been entirely renovated. So be prepared to enjoy many new improvements - hard wood floors, kitchen with granite counter tops, new windows, recycled wood ceiling and beams, updated private bedroom/bathroom suites through out, new furniture, game room with pool table, ping pong table and more....
Start your days watching the gorgeous sunrise on Electric Peak (one of the highest mountains in Yellowstone National Park) right from the breakfast table with the gentle sounds of the Yellowstone River flowing by the property. Our vacation rental home is perched above the Yellowstone River with an expansive view overlooking Yellowstone National Park. Wildlife abounds! Watch eagles, osprey and ravens soar over the River. From the dining room or deck off the back, we've watched a wolf pack pursue and take down a pronghorn, eagles catching fish in the river, bison herds grazing, elk swimming across the river and a pronghorn give birth to twins! You never know what you may see - it can be utterly amazing wildlife encounters or simply the awe inspiring beauty of the mountains and river. Our view is south facing, so there's lots of sunlight to soak in all day long. At the end of the day, grill in the yard and let the kids play on the swing set or just sit on the deck while you watch the sunset reflections on the river and enjoy the 'big sky' views of Montana and Yellowstone.
The convenience of our property will make your vacation feel simplified and relaxed. You can walk to the grocery store, restaurants, ice cream and pizza too...check out the bookstore, gift shops or even white water rafting outfitters where they'll 'suit you up' and take you rafting down the river, right by your vacation home! Elk River Art Studio and Gallery is right next door (that's us!), where we create art inspired by the landscape and animals you'll experience during your trip to Yellowstone. A little further, the Roosevelt Arch at the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park is just a mile away. And just a couple miles from there, you can soak in the Boiling River - the hot springs in Yellowstone Park. There's A LOT to experience in Yellowstone (we certainly love it!) and we'd be happy to point you in the right direction and help make it a vacation of a lifetime for you.

About Shirl Ireland
My husband and I are both artists, living, working and raising 2 children, at the edge of Yellowstone. We enjoy living in the midst of wildlife, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world - and take advantage of our Yellowstone 'back yard' (literally!) every chance we get. I paint outside in Yellowstone often and in our 'spare time', we hike, cross country ski, canoe and kayak.
Shirl Ireland purchased this House in 2006
Why Shirl Ireland chose Gardiner
We literally searched for years looking for 'the spot'. We are artists fortunate enough to live where ever we'd like. Our property is on the Yellowstone River overlooking Yellowstone National Park. We lived in this home while we built our new studio and gallery on the property next door. The mountain and river views are gorgeous and we're at the edge of a wonderful, friendly small town. We can walk to the grocery store and Yellowstone National Park too! Hiking, skiing and soaking in the Hot Springs are just minutes away. Plus, we're close enough to take advantage of Livingston and Bozeman, MT - a couple great towns with good vibes and bigger amenities. You can get to lots of art, outdoor activities and shopping after a beautiful drive up Paradise Valley (aptly named). That's why we call our spot 'the center of the universe.'
What makes this House unique
Not too many places on this Earth have what we have. How many people can watch a wolf pack hunt, eagles and osprey catch fish, bison herds graze, elk swim and twin pronghorns born - right from their dining room window? We watch Electric Peak (one of the highest mountains in Yellowstone Park) as the sun rises it turns a beautiful 'morning pink' with the soft sounds of the river in the background. We can watch the sun set and turn the river to a ribbon of orange, then at night, with the moon above, the river again comes alive and sparkles with the moons reflection. How could we want anymore?

Wonderful gathering place for our group of friends.
Shirl and John are gracious, accommodating hosts. We loved being so close to the Yellowstone River, the Park Entrance and the charming town of Gardiner. The home is lovely and comfortable.
We appreciate your kind words - and you taking the time to submit a review! Yes, we are very fortunate to have such a great location so close to the Yellowstone entrance and on the Yellowstone River. Happy to share with your great group! It was a pleasure to have you all enjoy yourselves in our Guest House. And, of course, "lovely and comfortable" are words we always like to hear! Come again...
Beautifully decorated, peaceful, convenient
Loved the artwork and table, little details like spotting scope and wolf videos were perfect for our visit. Would love to come back and take some of Shirl’s classes!
Thank you for such a 'glowing' review :) Glad you loved our art... And your comments on the table are highly appreciated, since you were the first group to use the new 'art inspired' Yellowstone dining table John and I made - of course we were hoping guests would enjoy using our handmade creativity!
What a view!
Coming from mid Michigan, our group of 8 thoroughly enjoyed this place. The accommodations were very comfortable and pleasing with all the incredible artwork and unique woodwork everywhere. And the view was incredible, looking out over the Yellowstone River across to the northside of the park. We spent much time on the deck and saw an elk herd one morning and often saw pronghorn and osprey. Our host was also very helpful with where to go and what to do. Highly recommend!!
The view is absolutely amazing and I'm glad you made the most of it - watching wildlife from the deck! We love it when our guests mention that they were all very comfortable during their stay - that's our goal. Thanks for all your nice comments.... Come back and wildlife watch anytime!
We found a Gem!
Our family of 7 adults ages 35 to 72 and 6 children ages 6 to 14 spent a week visiting Yellowstone and were elated to call The Guest House in Gardiner our home during that time. The house is absolutely beautiful and has everything and more than the listing indicates. You need only bring yourselves, your food, and a thirst for learning about the park and the surrounding area. We really appreciated the huge open space that allowed the kids to play downstairs in the great playroom while others enjoyed watching the roaring river right behind and below the house from the upstairs porch and rooms. The large bedrooms, each with its own equally large bath, were comfortable and gave everyone a quiet refuge when needed. We absolutely LOVED the huge table that easily accommodated all of us! The artwork that Shirl and John have done to accent the home is exquisite. They are delightful people who clearly care about their guests. All communication with them before and during our stay was pleasant and prompt. They really want people to enjoy their stay. Gardiner is undoubtedly, the perfect place to stay! The park entrance is less than a mile from the house and we never waited in long lines of cars! We would stay with John and Shirl again in a heartbeat!!!
WOW - Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough and positive review! I'm so glad you had a wonderful family vacation, and enjoyed gathering your entire family around our large dining table with our art throughout the house and watching the Yellowstone River flow by... We love being able to assist in making fabulous family memories :) I agree - Gardiner is the place to stay... really convenient to Yellowstone and a great small mountain town. And thank you for the nice comments about John and I, we really do want our guest to have a remarkable Yellowstone experience - in creative comfort... I'm glad it shows.
This house is special!
Our group of 12, ages ranging from 3 yrs to 64 yrs, stayed 3 nights and nobody wanted to leave. The house was just what I was hoping for - a beautiful place to unwind after long days in the park. We loved cooking in the gourmet kitchen, sitting around the large dining room table, waving to the passing rafters off the back deck, and of course the game room. No detail was spared in this home. It's like living in an art gallery, with Shirl and John's work displayed around the home. Shirl was very kind to spend a little extra time with us pointing out places to eat and visit inside the park and out. Oh and she dropped off cupcakes as it was my birthday during our stay! If you want a truly special place to stay during your visit to Yellowstone, then splurge on this house.
Your review made my day - thank you. So glad our Guest House was 'just what you were hoping for' ... the kitchen, the dining room, the game room, our great location and all the art.... and that you enjoyed your birthday cupcakes too :) That's just what I was hoping for!!
Loved the small town of Gardiner, MT. The Elk River Lodge home was perfect for the nine of us. We have older kids (youngest is 17) and they loved the pool table and ping-pong table. The accommodations were 5-star. The view from every window and the deck was breath-taking! The roar of Yellowstone River was hypnotic. Snow covered Electric Peak was our backyard. Our boys were constantly using the spotting scope to pick out mountain sheep on the peaks. Recommend highly!
Thanks for pointing out so many of our highlights! So glad you enjoyed living on the River with the awesome views out our windows, watching the mountain goats on the peaks through the spotting scope... and the game room provided entertainment too! We appreciate the high recommendation:)
Hot Springs - Boiling River, a natural hot springs feature in Yellowstone National Park is just 2 miles away and Chico Hot Springs resort with fine dining is a scenic 30 minute drive, and Photography...right from the deck!
