Why John Lewis chose Hood Canal, Olympic Peninsula

Palikai is unique because it so secluded, no neighbors, no hiway noise because 101 is located away from the house. If you so choose you can spend the stay without seeing other people. The Olympic mountains are accessible in a 10 minute drive, there is a award winning seafood bar 5 miles from the house. Or just eat your own off our beach.

What makes this house unique

Palikai is the ultimate in seculsion, no neighbors, no noise, a spectacular view

Beautiful home with gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

Pali Kai is secluded and spacious. John the owner is friendly and helpful. So much to do in the area and so relaxing to return to the house to relax on the deck. Dogs loved it too.

Lovely Hood Canal Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic "Chicks Hiking Weekend" at Pali Kai. It was the perfect location for weekend day hiking in Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest. We all loved the upper level sun deck and it was great to eat dinner outside at the patio seating every night. Bring a pair of sturdy surf shoes for the beach (sharp oyster shells and barnacles) and descend the switchbacks (with a handrail) down to the beach. We had a fine time swimming in the water and SUP'ing on Sunday morning. There are already two in our group who want to rent it later for their own family outings. It is just as pretty as the pictures suggest.

Amazing house!

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything need. The bedrooms are giant, the balconies have beautiful views, and the art is SO great.. you'll see! We caught oysters in the morning and ate them for lunch, fresh caught salmon for dinner, and blackberries growing everywhere. We did not want to leave, it was truly a great experience. Thank you!

What a great place! We loved just hanging out and watching people fish right out front. The view was perfect and the accommodations were great. Look forward to coming back.

Looking forward to coming back

  • 5 of 5

What a great experience. We met John and Cindy (and their very well behaved/friendly dogs) at the house when we arrived and they showed us around.

The property:

* What a view! I've stayed many places along the water of Hood Canal and this high bank view beats them all. Every morning as we drank our coffee from the back deck, we watched otters, seals, and birds all going about their morning routines.

* HUGE bedrooms. We only had four people (two couples). The house could have easily accommodated two other couples.

* Very quiet. We vacation in the area frequently and many places along the water have to contend with the noise of Hwy 101. This house is set far enough back from the highway that we rarely noticed any road noise.

* Private. Other than the kayak delivery that we called for, the only people we saw were on boats as they went by.

* Well stocked. We had plenty of towels, cookware, and other odds and ends that you need when renting a house.

The area & activities:

* Few services but lots of natural beauty.

* Our AT&T phones received great reception at the house.

* If you like local color, the Eagle Creek Saloon (a couple of miles south of the house) makes great burgers.

* Hoodsport (about 10 miles south of the house) has some small restaurants, a winery, a distillery, and some small town shopping.

* Lake Cushman is just west of Hoodsport and is a great day trip if you want to play around in fresh/warmer water. There is a public access park ($10 fee per vehicle) on the northeast side of the lake. They rent kayaks and have boat launch and day use facilities. No AT&T cell reception at the lake.

Things to know:

* The house has no wifi

* The path down to the beach is OK if you're able-bodied and walk cautiously. We were able to do it wearing full cold water scuba gear (with tanks and weights), and carrying kayaks. Part of the path has steps made from concrete blocks, some of the path is gravel and dirt, and some of it is wooden stairs. There is a handrail made from PVC piping. We didn't trust the handrails at first but, after a few minor foot slips on the gravel, we discovered that using the PVC handrails really does help.

* For scuba divers, the underwater topography is much like the rest of the canal: silted bottom that slopes to the center of the canal with abundant plant life. No good den spots for octos or wolf eels.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Pali Ki was perfect and very relaxing. The fishing was good and we were able to moor our boat just offshore from the house. The sun deck was very pleasant and relaxing with a great view of the water. John was a very gracious host and generously showed us around the property. We hope to be back.
