Why John Lewis chose Hood Canal, Olympic Peninsula

Palikai is unique because it so secluded, no neighbors, no hiway noise because 101 is located away from the house. If you so choose you can spend the stay without seeing other people. The Olympic mountains are accessible in a 10 minute drive, there is a award winning seafood bar 5 miles from the house. Or just eat your own off our beach.

What makes this house unique

The Orca whales ate back visiting this year. We saw 5 today cavorting out front!

Property is beautiful with an outstanding view of the Canal!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our large family gathering. It had everything you would need to have fun in the sun! We will definitely be reserving this property again. (P.S...The owners, John and Cindy were fantastic to deal with, which made it even better)

Great house and great location.

  • 5 of 5

John and his wife met us at the property and gave us a tour of their property. The house was decorated nicely and was equipped with everything one could possibly need. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, cooking on the two grills, walking on the beach and kayaking on the sound. The two upstairs bedrooms were very nice and big. Very relaxing and very enjoyable.

Beautiful view & very clean home with very nice owners!

  • 5 of 5

We love this place!

We were stuck in traffic & the owners were very nice about having to wait for us. They responded to our emails within 24 hrs & were really great to work with. John was very informative & patience with all our questions & Cindy was wonderful with the tour of their house.

The house had a warm comfortable feeling (not modern looking). It has all the amenities you needed, except Wi-Fi, which wasn't a problem since we use our mobile hotspot for internet access. The house was fully equipped with everything you need & I love the fact that they had separate propane grills to grill oysters. Both grills were in very nice conditions too. The only tiny issues we had was we could not find the remote to the DVD player & the play button would not work.

I noticed on the other reviews there were mentioned of the drop off. DO NOT LET YOUR YOUNG KIDS OUT BACK WITHOUT PARENTAL SUPERVISION! It is quite a steep drop off, but to put a fence up would really ruin the view. The view is so breathtaking! Definitely not child-friendly out back, but if you monitor your kids, explain the danger & enforce a walking distant you should be fine. My kids played on the side of the house where the grass was at & they were fine.

The backyard full of oysters were wonderful! It is a scary walk down with the loose gravel, but if you hold on to the rail you should be ok. Stairway down is slope & a bit tricky too. The oyster shells can be very sharp so definitely wear good footwear (boots works best). I would recommend when you throw back the shells to wait for low tide because if you just throw them back at the edge of the water, the current will push it back up. It is important to respect the owner's request that you do this so that other familes/generations can enjoy the bounty of the oysters.

The bedrooms were very good sizes, especially the one that opens up to the balcony. We were able to put up an air mattress for the kids because the height of the bed were so tall (they tend to roll around a lot) & there still was plenty of room to walk around. The house heats up very fast too.

We must admit, we did experience some racism in town, but we aren't sure if it came from the locals or the visitors in town. It was Memorial weekend so they had tons of ppl coming in. We got some stares & comments, but we ignored it. We just didn't go into town again.

Overall, we had a great time & would love to come back!

Great quiet getaway.

  • 4 of 5

The property was great. The owner met us on site when we arrived and was correct when he said the place is fully stocked. Our kids loved all of the games and videos available when the weather turned a little soggy. The beach is very nice and quiet (tad of a walk down if you are taking chairs or the kayak). Oysters galore as well. We will likey be back.

Awesome Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

The photos do not begin to show how wonderful this property is! Our family was thrilled to see all the amenities

. A very spacious upstairs that accommodated our kids and grandkids very comfortably- and 2 King sized beds. Our dogs were happy here, and we appreciated No pet fee. The grandkids really enjoyed a handmade Checkers game, and spent long hours with it. We enjoyed an oyster dinner, plus clams from the Hamma Hamma seafood store. The Canal was lovely - next time we would stay longer! Thanks John and Cindy!

Beautiful and well-equipped

  • 5 of 5

This is a spacious and beautiful house with many places to sleep and relax, plus absolutely everything you might dream of needing. There are two grills, with one devoted to oysters from the Canal. Very quiet, with nobody near you. A handrail for the walk down to the beach would be a happy addition. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. We loved our stay here and plan to return.
