Come enjoy the magical and cosmic space of the beautiful Mojave Desert. This ranchette sits on 2.5 acres and is an easy 7 minutes from the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. This quiet and very private desert country home is fully furnished and is decorated in a Moroccan-Contemporary style by the artist/owner. It is only 3 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree but feels like your miles away from the world once you nestle into the super cozy compound.
The home comes with one king size bed (Keetsa Organic Mattress). The second bedroom has a full sized bed with a memory foam mattress. All the sheets are fine Coyuchi brand and most bedding and blankets are made with organic fibers. There is dining/sitting room with wood burning stove, one bathroom, and a wrap around porch with couches, gas barbecue and very large charcoal barbecue and fire-pit. The full kitchen comes with a solid stock of spices, dry staples and condiments on hand to share.
The property is fully fenced so your little furry friends are safe to run around. There are automatic entry gates so you don't even have to get out of the car to enter the compound!!!
The grounds are lushly landscaped with hundreds of oleanders, Joshua trees, pine trees, pink peppers, Palo Verdes, desert willows, olive, pistachio, almond, plum, Chinese pears, peaches, pomegranates and more!! We seasonally share the honey from our own hives, cured olives from our orchard and whatever seasonal fruit and nuts are ripe and ready to eat off the trees. Our herbs are always in season and culinary treats. There is rose garden that sits off the master bedroom, so you can enjoy the lovely variety of scents. The newly added olive orchard and grape vine veranda make a perfect place to dine!!
The sunrises will invigorate and excite you and the stargazing will calm and inspire you. The property abounds with wildlife like jackrabbits and cottontails, roadrunners, lizards and dozens of quails that spend their nights roosting in the trees. You will often see our resident owl perched in the pines. There are also heaps of doves and hummingbirds.
World famous Joshua Tree National Park is nearby (1 mile to the Visitor's Center), for rock climbing, hiking, and touring. The town of Joshua Tree has several eating establishments, a health food store, visitor's center for the Park, outdoor equipment & climbing suppliers, art galleries, a saloon, and gift shops.
In the nearby town of Yucca Valley you will find a cinema, more restaurants, and antique shopping. The Twenty-nine Palms Inn has an excellent poolside restaurant on a desert oasis, only 15 min. away. Also worth visiting is historic old west Pioneertown, as well as Pappy and Harriet's Saloon, for fine barbecue eating, and great live music. (I used to be a waitress there and painted all the backdrops for 5 years...so chances are you'll be hanging with old friends of mine, and meeting new ones!!!!)
Joshua Tree also has multiple music festivals and retreats calling our quaint little desert town home now....So check them out, and stay at the Magical Cottage when you come to enjoy the music, the yoga or the alien sight seers!!!
Do you need more room? Ask about our casita, which is always available to guests renting the main house, at an additional rate.

We are Zaina Alwan and Brant Bjork. We are an artist and musician couple. Brant was born and raised in the desert and has been a part of the Stoner Rock or Desert Rock genre since he was 13!!! He is the founding member of the band Kyuss, among having been a part of Fu Manchu, Mondo Generator among other legendary acts, and still records and tours heavily under his own name today! Zaina is an installation artist, born and raised in Venice Beach. I moved to the desert over 15 years ago to pursue the influence the landscape would have on my vision as an artist, acupuncturist and herbalist.

We truly loved our stay
We had such a lovely stay at the magical cottage. It was perfect. Thank you so much!
The property is beautiful, private, shaded and well maintained
We couldn't be happier with our choice. This property and our experience here is what made our trip. The place is absolutely magical. It is very eclectic and comfortable. We really settled in and did not want to leave. Thank you so much to the property manager who made us feel very welcomed and at home.
Beautiful home and property, great location
We traveled with my husband and our daughter , and stayed at the cottage for the long weekend. We loved and appreciated the artistic interior as well as large property to walk around with different kinds of trees planted throughout. The location is perfect, very close to park entrance and shops. We would love to use the cottage as our home for future stays in the desert. Thank you Zaina!
Thank you!!!!! We love the Magical Cottage and are so happy you were feeling it!!!
Great Property and even better trip!!!
Pros - Loved the spot, the grounds, and the perfectly composed desert quirk! The rental was just as entertaining as the surrounding natural beauty. The views were amazing at the property, neighbors quiet, and the sense of seclusion provided by the security fencing was appreciated. Really appreciated the fully furnished kitchen and fire wood for the stove. I would recommend this property to a friend.
Cons - All the doors were terrible to operate. The front door screen was broken and there was a cabinet right on top of the door making it difficult to get in and out of the building with luggage and stuff. The description of the building did not allude to the fact that the only bathroom shares a common opening with the second bedroom. A little awkward for those in that room; knowing that would have changed our calculus.
