About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms, 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

A beautifully preserved 18th century Priory situated in the centre of the sleepy medieval village of Cabrieres d'Avignon in the Luberon National Park. This historic house has been owned by the same French family for over a century and who have lived in the area since the 14th century.

The Priory has comfortably cool, spacious rooms with attractive Provencal ceilings and original tiled floors. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, except two which share a bathroom (perfect for two adults and two children). At the front of the house is a landscaped garden with flowering shrubs, stone statues, olive and Tamarisk trees, a shaded stone dining table and garden chairs with sun umbrellas for additional shade. To the side of the house, right next to the kitchen and beside the pool, is a shaded outside dining patio with table and chairs perfect for alfresco meals.

There are two entrances to the house - one from the Place De L'Eglise (church square)with it's 14th century church and the other to the side of the house where a private drive leads to shaded parking for a number of vehicles.

Walking distance to village shops and restaurants. Short drive to the famous Luberon villages, excellent restaurants, vineyards and many local attractions to suit adults and children alike.

Why Pierre Solet chose Cabrières-d'Avignon

My family have owned Le Prieure for over a century. We have lived in the Luberon region since the 14th century. We are proud of our historic home and hope to offer you the unique opportunity to have a holiday in a house of authentic character and charm.

What makes this house unique

Cabrieres D'Avignon is a peaceful mediaeval village with honey-coloured stone houses, narrow streets, a 13th C castle (privately owned), original wash houses and old wells. In the ancient centre of the village is an excellent butcher, baker and grocery shop. The village has two excellent restaurants within walking distance of the house. The biggest advantage of staying in our village is that it has the charm of the Luberon villages but without the number of tourists!

Wonderful week in Provence

  • 5 of 5

Staying in this house for a week was like living in a fantasy.

We were looking for a traditional house with a pool in the center of Provence, and this ticked all the boxes. The pictures and description do not do this home justice- a gorgeous, very large home filled with beautiful furnishings. Quirky and antique, in the best way. Very romantic. The gardens are wonderful, we spent a lot of time sitting in the front garden and in the pool in the afternoon. The house is no more than an hour from anywhere you would want to visit in the area, and near a grocery, etc. The wifi is a little fussy, you are only able to use it in the main room and front garden due to the stone walls. This is not a house for someone that wants a high tech, modern experience.

Caretakers were lovely and helpful.

This is the house for you if you want to relax and feel like you are staying in an antique castle in France or a Van Gogh painting. It is very comfortable, and liveable.

I Can't Say Enough!

  • 5 of 5

I had stayed in Cabrieres-d’Avignon several years ago and remembered that it was perfectly situated to provide easy access to all of the gorgeous hill towns of the Luberon and their hiking trails, and yet was off the beaten track, making it peaceful. When searching for a property large enough to accommodate my guests in comfort and style, I found Le Prieure.

It may be cliché to say that the photos do not do it justice, but it’s true. It’s even more gorgeous.

I and a couple of my guests have bad backs and I know from experience that rental properties have awful beds. All of my guests, however, slept like babies.

The owner and the property managers were charming and responded rapidly to my inquiries. Not only did they have some bread, wine, cheese, and olives waiting on the kitchen table for my arrival, they left a gorgeous bouquet of lilies on the dining room table. All of my guests commented on their gorgeous scent during our week-long stay.

There are several family-run stores less than a block away that were invaluable: a small but well stocked grocery store, a butcher store with outstanding quality meat and pates, and a bakery which provided us with our daily supply of fresh croissants and bread. All of the store owners were very friendly and kind. Ask the grocery store owner about the locally produced Pastis; it’s better than anything you can find elsewhere.

I can’t think of anything that I would change about Le Prieure other than the length of my stay: it was far too short.

Fantastic, interesting 'chill out' Chateau

  • 5 of 5

The Priory is very quirky, with a multitude of seating areas. Basically you can choose whether to gather and talk or hide and read a book in solitude. The best spaces for socialising shift with the sun and the weather, providing variety and fun. Location in peaceful Cabriere, just around the corner from the bakery, and within hiking distance from Gourd is excellent. Loved staying here with my family and friends - great.

Wonderful place to stay and beautiful village

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible stay in this home, no need to worry about what you see on the website, the pictures are spot on and actually when you arrive it is better than what you might expect.! Pierre, through Rosie are quite quick to answer your inquiries and offer what information you may need. The hosts went to much trouble to ensure a comfortable stay and it exceeded our expectations.( Pierre..thanks again for the agricole plaque) We stayed 2 weeks and linens were changed after the first week. The village is lovely and having a boulangerie, small market and butcher was wonderful. It was quite center to many of the other villages and towns and we were able to enjoy many of the different town markets, go to Roman ruins and just be a part of village life for a couple of weeks.. For us, being close to the antiques area L'isle s/s la Sorgue and having opportunity to go to several Brocantes(flea markets) made it special, also made for extra luggage. The house is outfitted nicely so what you may need is there, washing machine etc.

If you have a long day of travel ( we came in from the States) have Rosie make dinner reservations at La Petit will satisfy all ages and the food was wonderful! we enjoyed it more than Le Vieux Bistro.

A great house to cherish and remember

  • 5 of 5

The Priory was our home away from home during two weeks in May -- we were a group of 6-12 friends, all professional couples sharing a passion for good food, great wines and travel. Our time spent at the Priory was an extraordinary experience; the atmosphere of the place is truly amazing ! It is like time travel ...

The house is a great oasis providing both privacy for those who such wish, pleasant sitting areas for shared conversations & games, pool side sun for sunlovers, cool shade for those with delicate skin (or an iPad to read). The decor both inside and outside is eclectic with your eye all the time discovering new treasures. The owner was extremely helpful helping us settle in and guiding us to local attractions & helping us to find incredible catering for our joint celebration dinner.

Location of the house - in a quiet village with grocer, boulangerie, butcher & two restaurants - is ideal for travel in Provence. All amazing Luberon villages just minutes away, Avignon & Orange close by, vineyards easily reached. Truly best of all worlds !

We all take home great memories and would warmly recommend the Priory as a base for exploring the wonders of Provence.

Cabrieres d'Avignon

This property is amazing. We were there for a week. The decor in the house and attention to detail was magnificant. It was clean and well maintained.

We all had an amazing time at the house and in the quite village. We could walk to the butcher and grocer. There is a restaurant across the road which has lovely food. The surrounding villages in the area are fantastic and there would often be a street market on somewhere.

There are also plenty of wineries to visit not too far away.

We would highly recommend the property.
