The river flows through Wigry National Park, and its gentle current makes it a popular paddling route. The house is situated on the edge of a forest that is part of a large primeval forest complex spanning Poland, northern Belarus, and southeastern Lithuania. The forest covers approximately 1,600 km², of which 1,140 km² are in Poland.
